Thanks guys, I'll send you the link when it's up!
Quote from e-freakYes! (and i can play crysis on High settings now, so no "that texture flickers" comments
)Heh, it was actually a very much valid comment, it was caused by all the buildings from the temple being a single model, so it was hit by too many lightsources for the medium settings to handle. I divided the thing into about 20 models and it worked fine afterwards.

So, anybody willing to playtest this thing? I'll have a prototype ready within a week, top.

Looks brilliant, great work!

is it good?
Played a few games this afternoon: apart from the fact that there aren't that many games to join (the browser finds me about 15 games at any time), and that many people suffer from lag because you play with dudes from Russia or the US at the same time, it's very fun and efficient all in all. Simple enough to jump right in and get what you're supposed to do, complex enough to enjoy the game when you do get its subtleties.

I promised i'd not buy another steam game for a while and now Lead and gold is only 5 =(
And it's pretty cool!

Sweet! Thanks for the visuals, that'll definitely help more than simply mentioning contrast, and it does look less bland the way you suggest.
I'm leaving on vacation for a week, and then I'll tweak the lighting settings and see if I can get something close to what you showed there.
I'll post updates then! Cheers!

Thanks for the advices and comments!
@Step: Actually, the fire is supposed to have more light around it, it's just that the light flickers,
and I didn't notice it but I've taken the screenshot right when it was off. Here's what it looks like really:
[Blocked Image: http://fireflies.clement-melendez.com/temp/mapcore02.jpg]
On the next shot you can see that the snow does look like it reflects some of the light,
but around the campfire the dirt/pebbles texture doesn't (that's intentional).
I'll tweak the brightness/HDR of these lights and see if I can find a more contrasting setting.
[Blocked Image: http://fireflies.clement-melendez.com/temp/mapcore01.jpg]
I may add a corona to that lamp too, I guess it could use one.
BTW, do you think it'd look better with the shadows on the lantern itself? (that cross on the ground)
The level actually is moonlit, as you can see here, although it's far less bright than on the shots you posted.
I don't think I'll rise the brightness though, as the level is supposed to be moody and dark, and with a brighter
level the other lightsources (torches, campfire, etc) and the fireflies will be less visible.

It's also my decision that the lights radius is fairly small, that has to do with the gameplay actually:
lights serve as heat sources, but only if the player stands close to them, so increasing the radius of a
light would mean increasing the heat radius, and that would fuck up the balance in some points.

Somehow Sentura, I believe that if you ever make your own twitter it won't be a big success... You'll get a few followers that absolutely adore your posts and think they are the best shit ever, but most people won't understand them.
Haha, classic

Here's the project I've been spending my time on lately: The Call of the Fireflies.
It's a short puzzle-based mod: you don't get to fire any gun, but to explore detailed environments, survive and avoid hazards, and solve puzzles to progress.
There's no synopsis to mention really, you simply are an old man following mysterious fireflies in the mountains up to their hive.
I'm currently putting the final touches to the level (intro scene, gameplay tweaks, additional details) and I should get it ready for playtest quite soon.
I'm particularly looking forward to what you guys have to say about the looks of it, since I'm not a very good artist I assume there's lots to improve upon.

I would like to see Zero P review older games, like on the N64 or Gamecube, etc, much like James Rolf (AVGN) does his stuff. Hes very overrated now where James shows never gets old.
That's funny, I feel completely the opposite: AVGN got old in 2008 while ZP manages to entertain me from time to time, when I agree with the points he makes.

I didn't mean to say I needed more practice with the editor, I just want to raise my chances to impress a possible employer by adding variety to my portfolio. Since I'm fluent with the editor, it's going smoothly and I'll start looking for a job this summer.
You'll hear more about all that in due time, since I'll be asking you all artistic types for advices pretty soon! -

My brother burnt the other Xbox360, so I bought it again...
Loving Conviction's cinematic aspect, and the gameplay is cool!

I would also suggest that you get your own host because it seems photobucket & blogspot can be quite slow sometimes. For instance, the header screenshot (behind your name) failed to load.
Layout wise, here are the things that bother me:
- The thumbnails shots right under the large pictures: it sorts of unbalances the look of the portfolio and makes it longer to scroll down, while you've got room to place them on the side. I dunno how much control blogspot gives you, but I'd do something like this:
[Blocked Image: http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/8542/81555949.jpg]
- I prefer when the links to pictures open in new pages/tab (add target="_blank" within the link code () if you have that possibility) instead of onto the page.
- I don't think you really need 3 pages About, Contact & Resume. For once, your contact info is on your resume, and the About page is short and sort of useless. You could probably merge them into one by having the About text above your resume and getting rid of the contact page. I also think your resume layout is a bit confusing, too spaced/spread out and the main headers aren't distinguishable from the sub headers. That's my own opinion of course, you should of course present your resume as you see fit.
However, it's not your web design skills that are going to be judged, so I think it's a fine portfolio. Content-wise, I think you should put the character models above the drawings. I mean, generally you should put these categories in the order you want to promote them. If you're looking for an environment artist job, I'd say put the environments category first, then assets and characters, then drawings as it's a great skill to have but secondary to the job at hand, while your modeling skills are going to be judged.
The Abandoned Wheel piece is good but could use some more trash on the ground in front of it.
The ChongQing Alley is great but two things strike me as odd: the black panels' texture on the wall above the stairs is a bit weird, I can't figure out what material it's supposed to be, and the vegetation in the corner is a tad bright compared to the light that hits the wall.
Good work overall!
-
Well, now that you mention it...
On that pic, you can clearly see that one of the rocks (center and right of shot) is duplicated, you should rotate or change the model on one of them.
Also, the water on the left is like, _very_ yellow, I don't know what's up with that.

Gotta agree with the other's input too: that cliff is way too dark compared to the ground. Light has a tendency to bounce off surfaces so with so much light on the ground, that cliff couldn't be that black.
-
I believe he's only talking about the batch of pebbles in the center of the shot, because they are right in the middle of the path. However the ones in the foreground near the roots are cool, because they help shape it.
-
Gotta agree with the others: flash is bad, heavy website in flash is very bad.
But even if, let's say, you converted it all to HTML/CSS, I would still have critics on the layout itself:

I'm also not sold on the font you used for your menus, it's a bit too "book-ish", but that's only personal opinions of course.
