So, I've finally managed to settle down and work on this project. I've got the test prototype almost ready, just needs to put it into an installer and check if it works.

3dnj & e-freak, you guys still up to test this? Anybody else willing to give it a go? It's quite short so it shouldn't take an hour to go through it.

Not quite what you are looking for but I've been meaning to purchase this book for ages: http://www.amazon.com/Carrying-Fire-Ast ... 691&sr=8-5

Sounds pretty good actually. I'm curious now. Added to the list

Hey guys, recently I've been reading too much fiction, and I'm willing to go back to learning more about a whole lot of different stuff, widen my horizons a bit.

I can manage to find good stuff to read thanks to amazon and such, but since some of you guys seem quite interested in space, I figured you may be able to help me out. So I'm looking for a great book, or maybe short series of books, about Space (you know, what the fuck is it, what are shit like stars made of and how things evolve etc. etc.) Something not too technical, I don't need physics formulas or whole lot of contradicting unproven theories, but something not too casual either, more than is usually summarized in TV documentaries.

    Thanks!

I've personally been using 1&1 for years and never had any problem with it. When I worked in an advertisement agency we did some website design and that's what we used too, seems to be a good compromise between price and quality. I guess this is true for most hosting companies these days but there's a good amount of online tools available to manage your website(s).

i'll do without an image quote: i like it but I'd work on more stylization and probably work on the camera (+ pp). (it's probably WIP anyway so don't mind me talking )

It's neither really WIP or final, I just wanted to practice a bit since I had a few hours time on my hands. Dunno if I'll take it further later, i'm usually more focused on gameplay, so polishing such a scene might be a bit off my skillset. I appreciate the suggestion though, I'll see what I'll do with this. Btw, did you have something in particular in mind when mentioning stylization?

I was home for a few days, not long enough to actually complete my ongoing project, but long enough to toy around with the cryengine, so I decided to create a few scenes based off comic books I like. Here's one:

Gotta agree these shots don't look good enough to be featured like this. I mean what's up with that metal skeleton in the center of the shot, increase the max view distance to its spine please? That said I still dig the art style a lot.

Assassin's Creed 2, so far pretty awesome; Splinter Cell Conviction in Coop with my brother since we're both back home, loving the gameplay of this game, it's so stylish; Rainbow Six Vegas 2, I liked the first one, but this is pretty average, the levels are uninspired and undetailed, feels more like an amateur campaign for the first game than a full title; Just Cause 2, horrible characters and voices, want to slap the player-character every time he opens his freaking mouth, the gameplay is alright but it's actually more enjoyable to just wander around looking at the beautiful landscapes than to fight; Oblivion, trying to go through to the end this time, twice I've started this game and lost interest halfway through

I've globally enjoyed most of this guy's movies although I can't say I'm a fan, so I'll probably check this one out too.

Also, Phone Games was about a single guy stuck into a phone booth and I still think it's great.

that's how i feel about it. i just imagine dying will be choking on your last breath, and suffocation does not seem so nice to me

My gf is a nurse and has seen quite a lot of people die, and it doesn't seem to be that way. They don't suffocate, at least not the most part, rather they let out a last sigh that sounds like "aah, it's finally over". That said, she's either seen old or people pretty much constantly in pain. The rest just die while in their assisted sleep at the hospital or bleed their guts out. I guess.

Personally, I'm far too busy being busy to care about death. I'll think about it when it's the last thing I can look forward to.

Great stuff Ahurt, love how much detail you put in the high poly model. The only thing that strikes me is the legs. The "foot" is quite small compared to the mass it must hold, and I find both legs to be a bit far apart from each other, etc. I don't know, it just looks a bit weird and I can't say if he could stand and walk on those, let alone run. Great work nontheless of course, especially for a first try Looking forward to see what you create after that!

    Awesome man, thanks for sharing.

I find it funny how the game industry sort of relies on the same sources all the time. I mean, most of the books he mentioned or quoted I had read because most game design books quoted from them too (not only Bob Bates' own book). There's like a reading list of 20+ books that always get used as reference. I dunno, I just find it funny.

Sorry guys, I'll have to delay the playtest for about a month, cause I've been contracted for that period and I haven't got the time to prepare it for you to test. I hope you don't mind
