i've actually thought of that, but i'm afraid i'd be terrible at animating convincing human movement.

i guess you could say the perspectival distortions are ways of kind of dislocating the center of the image and giving it multiple centers and/or multiple references in time. or, in the case of the image with the pinkish arch 2 up, the perspective does some of the same shifting that the center band of stones does on the street, in addition to setting things up compositionally in the fore/mid/background. for this l4d stuff, pushing the perspective without breaking it hopefully conveys a little unease.
i'm glad you recognize intent in that. not everybody does.
this one relies on a photo pretty heavily, except that the original was taken during the day and contained somebody's wife leaning against the wall (and no zombies running down stairs)...

yeah, the game doesn't possess much logic.

youtube won't embed for me on this board for some reason, so here's a link until somebody can do it.
totally worth the click until then.

heh, not shy, just not terribly effusive.

here's what the above is based upon...was a little bit different, stylistically, and is loosely based on a 3 map vs. campaign i've been working on, on and off, for a while:

admittedly, i don't post here very often, but i'm around almost every day and i like reading what a lot of you have to say.
i'm an architect, currently teaching in university, but i also have a solid background in the graphic stuff. i usually just do it for myself and my portfolio, but i figured it was time to show some stuff publicly, as i'm seriously considering a jump into the games industry. these paintings being what they are, i think my real strength is in level design...but that stuff takes so long that i thought i could just have an outlet for quick stuff i do on the side. so i'll post as i complete stuff i'm happy with.
thanks for looking!
been on a l4d kick lately. bad timing with the comic that just came out, i know.

not 100% happy with zoey, but i limit myself to a 24 hr period from start to finish (though i spend far less time on them), so she didn't really make the cut.

the absolute desolation of tomb raider 1. been searching for something like that experience in an sp ever since.
the follow-ups certainly didn't deliver.

bryan cranston was the best thing about malcolm in the middle.
i don't watch much tv, but it's good to know he's moved on to even better things.

there are no vanishing points in isometrics, and there is no real depth or change of scale across an isometric projection.
the whole point of isometrics is, originally, measurability, so that once you know one measurement along either the x, y, or z axis, you can reliably measure anything else that lies on those axes (this has already been said).
i know that's not as helpful as some of the other posts, but i thought i'd clear that up.

unless it's intentional, you've totally misread the second floor. that bay window cuts into the arch (which is why the two side windows are 5 sided) rather than sits outside it. you've greatly exaggerated the recess of that second floor as well, as the abutments from which the arch springs are pretty much flush with the face of the arch itself.
