I still can't believe I paid for it, it doesn't work at all, and I don't feel like reinstalling windows just for this. GoW was the last Microsoft game I bought.

    never say never

Environment Aritsts are not LDs anymore in most cases so this is a false statement imo.

even so, if you are to make a level for a game you would want that level to be as enjoyable as possible, regardless of your given title, no? i think limiting yourself to a title is the worst thing you can do for a company; it's like you're passing your responsibility to another person who is supposed to make whatever you conjure up fun. there is a point to that you see game companies give up their employee titles in favor of a more liquid mass, where everyone has a shared responsibility for an object/level/game.

also, yeah, my bad about the noportal thing. i actually thought it was built-in to the "metal" surface type.

false. textures with the metal property cannot be portalized.

i seriously do not want a non aperture science map though, since it will be hard to teach the user/player to use which surfaces and how. it might just be a question of syntax, but still, if we're doing portal, we're doing it for the gameplay, NOT the visuals. else we might as well go for hl2ep2 or something entirely different.

i reckon it's about time we have one of these. i see many good looking maps posted here almost every day, but i feel that people here (and especially YOU, artists) seem to underestimate how important good gameplay is.

urgh, why do they make sequels to these things. seriously, there is no need for a cod5, no need for a wolfenstein 3, and no need for a doom 4. why does id have such contempt for making new and interesting stuff and keeps sticking with remakes? it pisses me off to no end.

I never got that for Weaver despite winning the last contest But then Weaver was fun enough to build that I didn't really care I reckon a Portal map would be a good plan, as I think we'll see quite a few entries. Doesn't need custom content to look good (I reckon most folks will pull off the simple portal style with basically Valve level of quality), and encourages originality in gameplay and design as opposed to just visuals.

i agree. a single portal map with custom content would be catastrophical, whereas a mod could probably be done.

Really nice pictures. I don't know if it's really a problem but if I'd see most of those individually without the background info I wouldn't recognize them being from a prison. I think that the 3rd pic has the best alcatrazy feeling to it and it's my personal favourite. The composition would have been better without the fence infront of the lower part of the tower i.e. moving slightly to the left... but of course, I don't know if it was possible without jumping of a cliff.

hey thanks! it means alot to me, coming from one of the photography gurus of this place..

in all fairness though, the photos were taken around the island and outside facilities. i also managed to take a few of the inside before my camera died, but i can't seem to find them now.

and yeah, i was not really into breaking limbs to get to places- although i did go up on various railings to get shots and ventured into gull territory for one of the photos, and they were none too pleased about it.
