haha I wonder why toad is an enemy though

I can offer an answer to that...toad is replacing the minigun zombie, so he is a zombie toad!

Awesome video too. I kinda wish Doom3 was more like that, in a weird sort of way

Although, in the same vein of confusion, why is mario an enemy?

Merk! Long time no see Hera and Bast were my favorite NS maps by far. This map looks like a winner! Too bad I dont have hl1 installed anymore =( Hope you stay a while!

You know that Bast was Relic25's creation, right? And it was an awesome map.

Thanks for the spotlight! I am honored.

That last shot is the underside of the central walkway, which is suspended above a gigantic chasm. I never conciously considered this, but the lighting in that area is not very high contrast because...well, I guess because it is the crux of the map and it makes it different, and somewhat serene as well (and you need to feel serene somehow when you are a over mile above the next floor level :])

I can't find a decent pic on my PC of the chasm, seeing as it's hard to get it all into one frame and still look interesting. So here's a giant laser instead. This is the daddy that cuts asteroids to pieces by blasting down into the chasm (when the ship's 'belly' door is open), and the asteroid pieces float upward and get automatically taken into the ships processing system via some sci-fi feature or another...

Well, that's the idea anyway. In the map it just glows But that is the, as much as I hate repeating adjectives in a post, crux of the map, as it is the one feature that gives the ship its purpose. It is for all intents and purposes a fully automatic mining machine, that clutches asteroids with its insectoid legs, crushes them to pieces with this laser, and then sucks them up into its massive innards for processing.

So anyway, the main reason that area is so overtly blue, aside from me never wanting to change it (so I guess I am pretty much making this up!), is that it binds the map together. If it were as high contrast and multi coloured as everything else, then it would be like everything else and thus not special. Although I understand it's hard to notice that from the screenshot...

Oh, and thankyou greatly for the spotlight votes! =)

I found it on here! No I didn't play it with anyone :/

Does anyone know of any first-person UK game developers, out of interest?

Hi ferret I played your dm_fairyland the other day, some really nice (and bizarre) work there. Reminds me a lot of McGee's Alice, all compressed into a single map. Do you work at Raven now?

Aw shucks...thanks for the warm welcome and the comments!

In complete contrast to the day I entered #mapcore looking for a decompiler....ouch did I get burned, despite my good intentions.

*edit* And hi KFS and PhilipK

I guess so, but AFAIK it is still the most played 3rd party MOD for Half-Life, and it is still being updated. Version 3.2 was only released last Friday. However, I personally plan on moving on from the Half-Life engine now, as I feel I've milked it for all I desire. More can still be done with it, but, I'd rather get good with some newer engines such as Source and Unreal.

Oh, I must mention that the ship above is designed by Cory Strader, and modelled/skinned by myself using his concept drawings as a guide.

Hi all, I am new to mapcore as I have been fixated on my own devious conjurations for some time now, but I've recently finished my 'magnum opus' of mapping to date, and I figure this is the place to get some of the best feedback for it. I don't have much of a mapping history so I doubt many if anyone here knows me, but I also made ns_hera for NS, and a TFC skill map called concquest_r.

This map is for Natural Selection, which uses the Half-Life engine. Aside from some compile tool optimisations (increased planes and clipnodes), these are all pretty much vanilla HL with Cory Strader's excellent NS texture.

Machina is set on a mining spaceship, one that is owned and constructed by a society of humans of whom little is known about but have some rather impressive technology. The TSA marines are sent in to investigate their technology, but first they must clear it of the alien infestation that immobilised it and its crew.

To start off, here is the ship itself, as seen from the map's 'readyroom'. The readyroom is a feature of NS and is where players can chat & decide on which team to join, instead of having a GUI menu to decide. The ship you see is 3D rendered and is not a static picture, as are the moon and asteroids.

BTW, I am sorry if I do something wrong with the way I am linking these; this is my first post on mapcore so please be gentle!

To play the map you must install the latest NS version (3.2), sorry about that! (although it is a fun game if you have the patience to learn it )

Thankyou for taking the time to look, and I hope I can find the time to make contributions to other people's threads from here on in.
