I'm always a Cider drinker at the pub. Could I get any more British?

I'll normally drink whatever cider they have on draught that isn't Strongbow, but most of the time I just end up drinking Strongbow anyway. Classy guy!

I love drinking this as well (I know, I also see the irony....)

Yeah I would hold off on sending out any applications for the time being; you need to work on your portfolio more.

Your textures are very noisy and grimy, try toning it down a bit and trying to nail the basic material first before adding loads of grunge. Don't just run the Nvidia filter on your diffuse maps to get normal maps; actually try and bake out some proper normal maps from geo or using ndo. Not every texture needs a normal map, remember! It should only be used to accentuate details where needed. For example, the dirt on the skip doesn't need to be normal mapped on; it just looks odd.

And also, really work on your lighting. It's very flat and boring. I feel that the factory scene could benefit from a bit more sunlight (I know its overcast) and you need to get some ambient lighting in there to give it a bit of contrast. In fact, I just looked at the rest of the scenes, and the lighting comment applies to them too. The lighting in your night time environment doesn't make any sense. It's obvious you placed a light in the scene but there is no light source, and it doesn't look like moonlight.

I'll also echo what Warby said in that you need to use more polies in a lot of your models. This isn't Half-life! Those pipes could be perhaps 32-sided; it's not that expensive to render more polys nowadays (but be sensible; don't go overboard without reason).

Keep at it bro, you'll get there eventually. Just keep working, and try putting your scenes into the new Cryengine; it'll render a lot nicer

The environment team doesn't have access to it, we do the entire environment in 3ds max and the designers place gameplay objects etc using Unity. But they use our exported fbx file as geometry, as far as I know.

I'm not saying it isn't a level editor, but as an environment artist, I don't use a level editor. I just use Max.

I mean from an asset placement point of view Will. I know we use Unity but it's kind of a weird middle ground, and just for doing gameplay stuff, as far as I'm aware.

It's not a proper level editor, in my eyes anyway.

    That's interesting.

We don't have a level editor at work either, we make our levels entirely in 3ds Max. But then again, we do make kinect games so it's a lot easier and more streamlined.

Helder, those settings have just made Cryengine 10x better. Holy shit, nice find dude. The tonemapper really threw off everything I had done tonight, but I tweaked the ToD settings quite a lot and got it under control again.

Here's another screenshot with a few tweaks, tried to make it more like the concept art and did most of the things you suggested on the previous page, and did some things that some others have said on PC etc. I'm only worried that there isn't enough contrast now

I lived with a load of media students at university and quite a few of them had and loved the 550D. It's a great camera, good for stills and video! I would highly recommend a low aperture, wide angle lens. They're so useful

Nice one HP! Great tips, I will play around later on.

    Couple of things:

-Whats the command to change FOV in editor?

-How do you normally go about taking nice screenshots in the editor? I know you briefly spoke about it earlier in this thread, but r_Getscreenshot is so blurry, and the more experimental one just didn't work at all.

E-freak, I feel your pain brother. Dropbox is banned at our work but we can still see images for some reason, though that is only recent.

Edit - Just went back to the first page. I can't believe how rubbish this scene looked at the start. Furthermore, I can't believe I actually carried on with it! Can't wait to work on a new environment soon. I'm just thinking up ideas now.. Hmmm.
