This texture pack is pretty cool! Makes it look sorta Snes-like, reminiscent of Zelda. Only annoying thing is no animated texture for lava/water.

Edit - I also just found this one which looks amazing:

I think quite often it is the popularity and renown of the author that sells books.

Yeah, 'tis a bit weird. Probably something to do with laws with paying over the net..

Back to the game itself, I'm soooo in love with it. I just carved a little shelter into a mountain with a cave system as my back door

I've been playing this game all day, and it's absolutely incredible.

It's actually really immersive, taking into account the graphics.. I found myself being scared to death at night, and hurrying in the day to make a safe shelter.

Though once I hit the bottom of the game world, I found that there was little to keep me going through the game.. I have all the ore and other items, and now all I can do is explore. It's still fun but now that there's nothing new to do I'm a little stuck.

I still need to find a proper dungeon with the mossy cobblestones, I've only found lots of big cave systems atm.

Edit - That graphical mod looks amazing. Where's it from?

    Quote from Buddy

With those 2 props, crate and barrel if i wasn't to read it had some sort of HP work behind it i wouldn't be able to tell.I think with this kind of props you don't really have to go through such a process to get results like this tbh.

(unless You could post another render with different lighting to show the normal maps more)

    Nice work nonetheless.

I only sculpted one or two planks to give them a bit of edge wear, then duplicated them for the rest of the mesh. Really didn't take too long, and it is noticable when the normal map is turned off that the mesh is very simple (like below 100 tris for the box!)

Looks interesting! Bit of a strange choice having Andrew Lincoln in there as the main character though, he's been in a lot of your typical English dramas.

I am imagining a sort of adventure game, this definitely wouldn't work with action games.. Cool though, amazing graphics for the iPhone!

For an MMO this is definitely something new. I found combat in Eve to be extremely boring, it was, as Dark said, simply press a button and let the computer do the work for you.

This is nice, sorta Rogue Squadron like, rather than boring Wow-style combat.

Does seem a little odd, and I can imagine the team sitting in a meeting brainstorming ideas about where to set the 'new Rapture'.

That said however, I do think it looks good. Hopefully they take the game in a different direction than Bioshock, rather than the game being a re-skin of what has already been done.

Name seems a bit daft too!

How much did you guys pay for it? I really want to play it but don't wanna shell out 30+ for a PC game!

45 quid to download it for pc seems fucking extortionate! No way I'm paying that much. Gonna wait til the price comes down.

The workflow for the barrel was a lot more simple really, it only took a few hours from start to finish. I modelled 2 or 3 high poly planks and sculpted those and then copied them round the entire mesh, really simple to do.

I have tried that method you spoke about mino, I found it a little awkward to work with the UVs stretching, but I will give it another go

Btw thanks guys, you've really helped me better myself over the years - I'm finally feeling close to industry standard!

    Thanks HP!

My workflow was as follows, I'm just doing what feels natural to me now that I'm getting my head round modelling, sculpting and texturing.

-base mesh in max for each plank of wood, equal quads across the entire mesh. These planks were all assembled in the shape of the chest.

-subdivide in mudbox with smoothing turned off, then with smoothing on to slightly round the corners.

-scraped the edges to give it a worn look.

-used a stencil to rough out the wood look for the normal map and ao map.

-exported a lower subd version of the sculpt back into max (high enough to keep detail but low enough to not break max!)

-optimized the mesh to make it easier to work with.

-built the low poly up around the high poly planks.

    -unwrap!

-textured in photoshop using xnormal for cavity/ao/normal maps.

    -rendered with xoliul's shader.

Worked on a Barrel tonight, still extremely WIP! Only the wood texture has been worked on so far.
