I just realized we're less than 2 months from getting this! Genuinely excited, I want to see if it's more of the first or if they actually managed to spice up the formula and give you stuff you might not be expecting. Also, it might be good to replay the first one, it's such a beautiful game, worth it for the envs alone.

  • What are you playing now?

There are just two minor bad points: the horror factor is non interactive, meaning that the player doesn't interact in any way with Alma, the little girl who is killing everyone; the second complain is that there is too much repetition, the same environments were overused in very long levels.

After finishing F.E.A.R. I played Project Origin for the first time. Too bad that they changed the whole direction of the game. The whole atmosphere that made F.E.A.R. 1 terrific is gone, The graphics are better in terms of resolution, colors, bloom, HDR, but they sacrificed the realtime shadows everywhere. The environments are larger, with a greater cinematic feel, but they had to compromise the shadows and the flickering lights, which dumbed down the thriller atmosphere of the first game. I tend to agree with all the criticism about F.E.A.R. 2 being "consolized". Smashing button in QTE, lack of voicemails and the interface seems to be gamepad oriented.

Overall I think that the main flaw of F.E.A.R. is that it wasn't designed with a series in mind, there isn't much room for expanding it after the first game.

If you enjoyed the original fear, definitely give Condemned a go.

Hasn't even been a month yet, and there's already story DLC out for this game. Not sure what to think about this tbh, specially how narrow and unsatisfying the story of the game felt. This feels like content that belongs in the main game...

You don't need to use Maya. You can always do your work in Modo, and when it comes to send it to them just send your mesh(s) to Maya and export from there. A polygon is a polygon, doesn't matter where it was modeled.

And it reminded me of how political (and radically political!) the original Deus Ex was. Too bad they ruined that in every sequel by making you an agent of authority, with the bad guys portrayed as corrupting the otherwise good system. In Deus Ex, the bad guys are just part of the already garbage system, and while you start as a UNATCO agent, you go rogue when you learn about what's going on. That's what good cyberpunk is about, not just crime stories with computers in them, or existential pondering about putting computers in your body! The augmentations are an RPG system and part of the initial plot setup with the Grey Death, but not THE plot of the game!

Thinking about this, it also reminded me of Red Faction 1 and Red Faction: Guerrilla. Both have a pretty traditional story of joining a ragtag group of rebels fighting against oppression, a story that's a dime a dozen in video games because of Star Wars. However, in these games the oppressive institution is a private corporation, abusing its workers to maximize profits, away from public oversight. The rebels you're a member of are pretty explicitly collectivist (I mean, it's right there in the name "red faction"). Like with Deus Ex, sequels tried to fuck it up (why can't you let good games be good, industry!?), but I'm glad we got RF:G, at least, which got back to the proper revolutionary marxist feel of the first game. Eidos Montreal could learn a thing or two from RF:G. :P

This, so much this! Mankind Divided is a good game, but it's not a good Deus Ex game. After MD, I felt like replaying the original DX, and man that game is nearly perfect in every regard (With the exepction of the aged graphics of course)

PS. If you want to replay DX, deffo get GMDX mod, it beats every mod out there.

    PS2. Amazing read: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/3…rms_deus_ex.php

PS3. If you like history, good books, cyberpunk, conspiracies check this. Guy is a crazy mofo to even attempt to do this, at the end of every video he has a 10 to 20 minute segment that delves deep into a lot of random yet amazing stuff, check it out: (Scroll to the end of the below clip to see what I mean)

Only played Soul Reaver on the PSX, I remember I loved it. Later replayed it on PC. Never played Blood Omen, seems like a completely different game, is this the same franchise but different gameplay style?

You know what's weird too, the fucking thing doesn't play 4k blu-rays! It's even their own proprietary format, wtf.
