    Holy shit guys, this was good, this was really fucking good!

    I was not expecting something so high budget to actually be very "experimental" in it's storytelling, this is no Spielberg movie at all, so go in with an open mind. It feels very cold and claustrophobic.

    I love how the movie doesn't follow the usual Hollywood "heroes journey" kind of storytelling, and instead tells the story of a particular place (a city in this case), in a particular time and that is it. It felt incredibly raw which is surprising. There's also a stark contrast to a more recent movie I've seen lately, War for the Planet of the Apes which is a good movie, but could not possibly be more formulaic, whereas Dunkirk thinks outside the box and shits in it.

    I need to let this set in my mind for a few more days, but it's another winner for Chris Nolan in my book.

    Spoiler Some people criticize for not being able to connect to any character, since there's an unusual absence of a "main character" but it didn't bother me at all, quite the contrary it allowed me to sort of zoom out a little bit and focus on what was going on and not be distracted by soap opera and emotional shit!

    It's pure war. it's raw and bleak there's no mercy. I also loved it how you never really see the enemy. Loved it.

    Funny you mention this, because I was having sinilar thoughts today. Same with the 27 club, how can young artists full of fame and a bright long future just off themselves like that.

    The answer I'm sure it's as complex as the human mind and the ecosystem it exists in. You were mentioning being tabu to be depressed in western society, this is very true, people want to send you to a shrink with first signs of any depression, then come the mind numbing drugs and coasting through a half existence.

    It almost makes sense if you think of western society as a living being, depressed people don't contribute to society, so the immune system kicks in and finds ways to fix the abnormality so things can go back to being a functional member of the pack, asap. And indeed, those most fortunate should have nothing to complain about, with their sports cars and mansions on the beach.

    Sigh... anyway, sucks to the generation that loved what he did and his family, life is precious and seeing shit like this happening, at least to me it's confusing at best.

    I remember being 17, hopping on a train to Lisbon all by myself with a friend of mine, we were on our way to a Linkin Park concert. I've never been to a concert, barely even been our of my home city my whole life and I remember vividly seeing them live was quite life changing for me, their Meteora album is one of the best albums I've ever listened to, a master piece.

    Fuck, sorry to hear that bro. Remember usually this shit is a pendulum and it will swing back, but I agree that when the shit starts going wrong, it's usually a wave of turds our way, I've been noticing this pattern for a while, life has many ways of testing a persons will. Either by happening nothing at all, or by having everything happen at once.

    Helped him on his previous kickstarters, and own both his books. I'm a huge fan of the way he uses lighting to convey emotion and a sense of uniqueness. Some of his work looks incredibly coozy, yet epic in scale, still baffled on how he manages to do that.

    Would love if he got involved in either a major motion picture or a video game. There's a lot of people trying to do fan art in his style, but falling pretty flat.
