I did create a thread about this a few days ago, but I opted for deleting it a few minutes after, reason being that the only reason this topic has been brought up again, is because the NRA and the government need a scapegoat to take people's attentions from the real culprit here: gun regulations. This topic has been debated and studied for decades now, and after many studies, they always come out empty! Games don't cause people to turn violent, that's the end of that really. I swear this government drives me up the walls sometimes, it's ok and completely legal for a 18 year old to buy a fucking arsenal, but they instead want to come up with "much tougher regulation" on video games. We must be living in a alternate universe.

We, as a society should instead focus on real problems, I posted this thought on twitter a few days ago and I'll repost it here: We neglect and forsake our kids, we call them sexists and loosers, they turn nihilistic and desperate, loose their purpose in life and become depressed. We then over-medicate them on psych meds, and allow them to buy rifles. But surely... its video games fault... okay!

I've been to Grand Canyon this week and it's hands down the craziest place I've ever been, here's a shot, I'll post a few more later.

Well, there's a lot to unpack here, and you forgot to mention a third element on top of nihilism or dogmas: cognitive dissonance, which is also dangerous, because no meaningful progress would take place.

Can't an axiom can be used as a tool though? Even though it's inherently a subset of truism. It can still exist inside your "orienting reflex" that allows you to look at ideas that are thought provoking, and makes you question. Once you hear, read or see something that doesn't necessarily fit into your little box of pre-existing ideals, axioms or what have you, the first thing one does is act defensively, we are wired for that to happen for some reason (probably an evolutionary reason), because for our mind it's new and dangerous, (confirmation bias as you called it) but it's important to let your exploratory systems be activated. That is a great place to be in, because you go from skepticism to enhanced attention. Good science needs to be skeptical about anomalies, otherwise we'd live in chaos, but it also needs to be able to shift in light of better ideas or new research.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is that I don't necessarily agree with you that nihilism and dogma need to be mutually exclusive, I actually believe that standing right in the middle of order and chaos can, and probably is, one of the most enlightening frame of minds a person can be, as long as you don't go over the border of cognitive dissonance. it's for me, the yin yang of philosophy that I try to live my own life in.

PS. In regards to the above post, there's maps being worked on and posted here on a daily basis, what are you talking about lol.

I don't know man, if you went 100 years in the past, and told anyone there about the lifestyle we live now, they would laugh at your face. I love this quote by Marshall McLuhan : "Human beings are the sex organs of the machine world." Cross check that quote with everything that's going on with VR, AI, Blockchains, fuckin internet, 24/7 news and where we're going starts to be a little bit more obvious.

Sam Harris is also an incredible character, he introduced me to meditation and how to be mindfully open while leaving dogma at the door.

As for peterson, take everything anyone tells you with a grain of salt is indeed a good life mantra, pretty sure even he would agree with that as well. Because if you're unwilling to question your beliefs, you will never know if you are following the truth, or lies.

Both the above-mentioned persons actually had and keep having a huge impact in my life, last few weeks I've been devouring Peterson's lectures, it's usually some very thought provoking and interesting stuff, I can see why he's hated by the far left, we game devs and those in academia are sitting in ground zero for that kind of ideology, so it's important to balance the scale with a vaste array of knowledge, be it biology, sociology or psychology, so to keep your eyes open to the very interesting social and political environment we're living in.

I tend to stay away from his biblical studies, and you touched on why, it's all stuff that is up to interpretation and open to mind masturbation, I can see why he thinks old wisdom can still be applied to todays world but I prefer to look ahead rather than backwards, maybe to a fault, time will tell.

Ps. That Cathy Newman/Channel 4 interview is probably one of the most hilarious 30 minutes I've ever spent on youtube. Lol

Yeap, I've said this many times, and I'll say it again, we're gonna be talking about Zelda BotW for decades to come. It's one of the most important games in a while, it's a pure "video game" experience, on a freaking handheld. ahah

I think it's easy to forget that the game gear is an 8bit console, akin to NES and the Master System too. But then again, the game boy was too, and the game selection was far superior.

Oh game gear... I was able to make it to the end of the first level in sonic... then all the 38 batteries it needed to function ran out. lol
