First of all you gotta choose the engine which you'll be making level design for, I'd say Source engine, Unreal Engine 3 or CryENGINE2 are the way to go nowadays!
There's tons of other engine though, but I highly suggest you choose one of this three since there's alot of tutorials, guides, communities and people willing to help you out.

Nice prices, I would buy Max Payne 1 if the brazilian portuguese version was available, that was the best game translation EVER

Máxima Dor? LOL

I loved the original Alien VS Predator game... It was one of the first games when I first got my own PC, I remember I closed the windows down, turned up the volume... and damn, it was one fucking scary game, really this game scared the shit outta me!!

AvP2 was OK, but not nearly as scary as the first one, because the environments we're way brighter, I loved the claustrophobic and dark environments of AvP1!
EDIT :

Ok guys, enough! Stick to the topic!

I saw this movie yesterday... my expectations were ZERO, when I walked into the cinema!
I saw AvP1 on the cinema when it came out, and the movie definitely sucked! I mean, yeah, It is entertaining and all, but it's just they could have done so much more with the plot, and they basically ruined it all, imho!
After watching AvP2, I can say it was way better than I was expecting, the beggining of the movie is a bit boring, but as the movie progresses there's lot's of action and specialFX. One little thing I really hated was the close-ups, most of the time, when there was fights between predator/aliens, they were always filming they're face, It gets annoying!
Anyways, It's an overall good movie, but not nearly as good as Alien and Predator was in they're good old times, I miss Ripley!

The ending was ok, it leaves place to a possible sequel as well, and they will surely make it, if this movie sells well.

All this years I've been a fan of Remedy work.
But since Crysis came out, Crytek gain my whole heart as they are the ones who developed the best graphical technology until present date. (I know technology Is not everything, but damn what they did is just fucking amazing)

Anyway, I recently started playing Stalker again since it started crashing constantly on my last try (before any patches). It really is a superb game, only wish there was some way of fast-traveling between areas since it sucks to have to sprint several kilometers just to have a conversation with a guy. Maybe in Clear Sky they can add in a mobile phone system so you can just call people.
yeah, you and me both.. and I wish all the characters had voices too, plain text is just too boring to read!

dude, this is pure awesomeness...

KT, I'd put some threes and/or bushes on that higher terrain back there, and some sprites (like grass) on the ground under the signal, fallen leaves, etc. maybe even some broken branches (as geometry of course), it looks to plain, It's a menu scene, so don't be afraid to be a detail whore on this one!

Horrible textures!

is this going to be a singleplayer or multiplayer level?
When I started working on this map, it was merely somewhere where I could practice the tutorials that I was reading, but it proved to be really good looking as I progressed, so I intend to make it a fully playable SP map.

Looking forward to you're critics buddy, you, better than anyone here can point out what I could be doing wrong!

KungFuSquirrel, damn bro, that's what a call a great critic/useful post!
Thanks a million for pointing some of the stuff that although looks obvious at first, most of the time they are left aside by our lazy subconsciousness.
I'm learning a lot as I go, and I learnt even more studding Crytek's official maps, how they strategically placed all the vegetation, how they did the terrain painting, etc.
This is something completely different from what I have ever experienced in an engine/editor before, one has to apply totally different methodologies of level design in such open environments compared to games like Half-life or Doom3, where gameplay flow is much easily controlled by barriers and obstacles in the maps. This is being a great experience, refreshing even, and it did awaken the dormant level designer spirit in me!
