Well yeah maybe, bit of a gimmick and ahead of it's time even, but the concept on itself it's genius and it's even well implemented, but we need better computers and better consoles to see it's true potential.

Todd tweeted both AMD and ATI are working on new drivers as we speak, they did not forgot about the PC crowd.

People are seeing the texture pop-in and then frapsing it to show it to other people brosef. Also what kind of scrub only has one hard drive?

It looks like, from what I've seen/heard, that the game isn't caching textures that are offscreen/behind the player/etc, and reloading that stuff every time the player turns around again instead of remembering them. Given that the texture pop-in is way less noticeable on Xbox judging by the giant bomb quicklook, that has to be some kind of bug. They only released the x86 version, so the game can only use 2GB, but still that's 4x what's available to an xbox game...

there's a reason on why it is the way it is, and the game runs much better on consoles than it runs on PC, It's usually the other way around I know. I don't know the technical details, people talked about it at work and I've read it somewhere as well, but basically since the consoles have a fixed hardware it's much easier to allocate the textures in the memory and address them when the player needs to see them.

On PC, due to different hardwares, different GPUs, different drivers, etc, this just isn't possible, hence why It's a bit problematic to run on PC and that's why id recommends everyone playing on PC to get the latest drivers for their graphics card.

Carmack talked about it more in depth during his talk.

It's not all id's fault tho:

"All - don't use the current Rage performance driver - package includes very old OGL files, that's why you're seeing corruption etc."

"New Rage driver with proper OGL component will be posted later today"

    Oh boy:http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2011/10/r ... -gamed.ars

Woa, who the fuck is that Ben dude, and why do people trust him SO MUCH to the point of canceling their pre-orders based on his thoughts?! I mean have a look at the comments and see the people that are not going to play the game based solo on this article! I mean, seriously, you're hyped for a game, you like the trailers and the games that company puts out, but a few days before, some dude types some bad thoughts about it and this people blatantly cancel their pre-orders based on his feelings of the game he didn't even fucking finish yet!

It's like, you order a delicious muffin, you are ready to eat it, you look at it it smells delicious and it looks delicious, someone walk by and say: "Jeez dude I tried that muffin before, I hated it!" Will you put this muffin in the trash, or would you trust your instinct that the muffin will be as delicious as any you tried before?

When I'm hyped for something, I trust my gut feeling it will be at least a good game and it will at least correspond to SOME of my expectations. Even if the fucking pope said this game was shit, i would buy it anyway because I trust my gut, and I would check the game for myself. And I'm not saying this cos it's a id game, it's because it's exactly the genre I love and no one can convince me otherwise, especially a game journalist that KNOWS he's gonna get more visits on his website if he talks shit about a hyped game like this!

As far as I've heard, the game is really problematic on PC, especially on ATI cards.

It's still used here in Germany as well. When I got all my 4 wisdom teeth removed a few months ago they asked me if I wanted to be put under with laughing gas, and after reading on the internet that it can kill you, I said fuck that I'll go with local anesthesia.

As an Aliens fan, I know very well what happened. And hadleys hope should have been a radioactive ruin, if not a radioactive crater.

    “How long ’til it blows?”

“Four hours. With a blast radius of 30 kilometers; equal to about 40 megatons.”

And, that reactor was generating oxygen for the atmosphere, so how are they going to explain that there's still air is beyond me.

But then again, keeping the colony intact lets them show locations from the film again, which is always good.

    Fan service games ftw,eheh.
