I think the Red area should feel much more red, but the geo is awesome

Perhaps implicit in Gabe's email is the idea that there should be fully independent ways for the customer base to approve/disapprove content they want to see? I hope it wasn't intended as a "free speech is kewl" moment, because there need to be reasonable limitations on what gets Greenlit. Id rather not have Isis or Al Qeada 9/11 simulator on Steam, because "free speech is kewl, yo"
After this game unfortunately I can totally see a new genre of games called let's grab headlines, where the whole point is to troll people with diseased plot ideas...

I love me some GabeN but this feels like the wrong move

I'm sorry dude, but that kind of judgmental and "moral high ground" mentality is exactly the same as religious fanatics, thinking their entitled to make decisions for everyone else because their "morals" are telling them what's right and what's wrong.
Let the human collective answer the question on whether or not they want this, not the individual in power. In theory, that's what Greenlight is, right?
PS. The game is trash tho, definitely agree with you there, i'm not defending the game, i'm talking about valves decision here, it could be a porn version of pac-man instead of hatred.
You could say the same thing about you forcing Steam to publish the game. Why are you making them publish something they don't want to publish? It's their platform, why are you trying to make the decision for them? Nobody is saying the game is against the law, they're saying they don't want to publish it. Big difference.

People shouldn't be forced to publish shit they don't want to, and this game is fucking trash. I'd have made the same decision

Since we are on Mapcore and i'm for sure not the only one who is interested in the workflow of Valve mapmakers, i decided to rip the trailer of the new de_train apart. I made screenshots of every angle and every stage shown in the video. Because pausing a Youtube video every 0.1 seconds or don't see anything at all is no fun, amirite? I'm too lazy to link all the albums tho, so check my imgur album page out: http://exodussy.imgur.com/
You did a great job with this. I really enjoyed the images.

I don't get why the M4A1 is 3100 $ now, the lower price made it a good alternative to the M4A4 and the limited mag capacity and extra ammo made up for the price difference imo.
All new content is available to the community. Try searching for "train" inside Hammer and it'll probably show the new stuff.
They raised the price of the A1 because pros pretty much only used it, the A4 wasn't getting much use at all

New Train is pretty sick
Can't wait to get some games in on it. -
That was a really great trailer. I'm in.

OK m8, but can you tell me what is top tier? The Wire?
I'm enjoying House of Cards, enjoyed Breaking Bad. If there's some shit out there that's better I gots ta know!
Quote from ErraticI wouldn't say Breaking Bad is trash by the way, but it definitely plays to the crowd. It doesn't exactly challenge the viewer in any meaningful way. It's just a well constructed series that gets to go to some extremes other shows don't.
I think the writing was pretty awesome, so gotta disagree on that one. Plus Cranston can really act

I cannot wait for the third season~
Hopefully the show can get to Breaking Bad levels of quality, it's already almost there

Well, that looks insane

This is the general scorecard that the judges will be using to score each map. There are 4 judges, Adam "SyncError" Pyle, Ferdinand "cityy" List, Matthew "Lunaran" Breit, and myself. Scores from each map will be averaged between the 4 judges and winners selected from the highest scores.

We haven't come to a conclusion for when we'll all be finishing the judging procedures. With the holidays coming up, we'll all naturally be very busy with work/family/life, etc. There are 16 completed map submissions in total and we hope to run though each map thoroughly. Please be patient and we'll try to come up with decisions as fairly and promptly as possible.
Best of luck to everyone! Hope everyone can polish/complete their maps in the meantime, there are some really promising looking stuff coming out of this contest.
Impressive!

I'm really pleased with the entries, but I'm even more pleased with the level of engagement. I hope you new guys stick around!

Hahaha, I was waiting for this.
Can we watch your idle hammer window yet?
I'm not sure if it works for hammer. Also my Internet is shite. But this is still really cool.
With that said, I hope they do some monetization stuff with this in the future, ala Twitch.

I think you've got a great base here, but one problem I have is the lighting again. It's very white and desaturated, with a lot of little pinlights everywhere. This creates tons of opportunities to use second and third colors in areas to create some much more interesting contrasts and scenes. Ideally, scenes will have two primary colors, and then the little white lights can tie different areas together as being one of your consistent motifs, but right now I just feel the map has no identity on the lighting side of things because it tends to be white with a few other random colors, but none of them carrying a lot of emotional weight for me.
With that said, I still love what you've put together here. I just hope you continue to put some finishing touches on it

Ok so, it's been a long time coming, and no secret around these parts of town. But I'm ready to share this news with the rest of the interwebs now

I've resigned from Crytek and will be heading over to Epic Games, in the U.S of freaking A, in January 2015 to work on Fortnite and what ever goodness follows it. I've been at Crytek now for 6 years, and although recent times have not been the most motivating, it's been the best professional experience in my life. I've learned so much here, the people are great and the past projects where ambitious and energizing to work on. Not to mention some of the most insane (in a good way) people in the industry!
Epic is an exciting move for me, in some regards quite a comforting move, being used to dealing with the perils, that come with working at a company that pushes the boundary of technology. Fortnite screams fun to me, and I can't wait to be a part of the development team!
America is also a change for me, but I've been there enough to know I will fit in well, with my eccentric and excited personality.
So, 2015 will be a big year for me, new life, new company and new ways to see the world. I'm very excited and have needed this for a few years now!
That's really huge! Congratulations.
