I played as Leon first, what happens when I go back and play with Claire? This game fucking rocks, still. I’m about 5-6 hours deep.

Anybody else getting a "cost-cutty" vibe from this gameplay design? It's like, big open field.. terragen data with some models thrown in, abstract gameplay etc. Will be interesting to see if that bears out in the gameplay being very minimalist

I guess this runs the risk of being a typical Kojima movie-game with the gameplay taking even more of a backseat than we're used to. I'm hoping it's not a bore. For me the most interesting part of MGSV was the sandboxy gameplay, the Kojima move-game parts wore pretty thin pretty fast

Goddamn this game is WILD! One of the best in a long ass time. Holy

Mr. X, lawdy he lived up to the hype. The sense of dread this game can build is so amazing. On regular difficulty I’m getting away with fucking murder, barely escaping impossible situations. I get the sense they scripted high danger and then forgiveness, the difficulty curve is so slick. Thus far it’s been right on the dime, any harder and I would chicken out

I don’t think stuff like this tends to work well in Source. You can have all your scripting together but physics moving stuff is just not really super functional in CSGO. It’s more of an engine limitation because the game basically doesn’t do anything fancy

this really rocks my socks. scary things I can go either way on, if it's too difficult and scary, then it's a great excuse for me to quit. but this thing has been really well paced, edge of my seat but not too impossible on regular difficulty. really really fun

i haven't played it on PS4 so I can't compare, but I feel like playing on Steam was the right move. it's fun to get my achievements popping up and to take screenshots, run on all high. also kind of glad I never played the original, this feels really polished. there's some really stupid parts (combining items in games almost always ends up being fucking ridiculous. "ah yeah why didn't I think to combine the pool noodle with the dynamite")

Imagine thinking a hideous monster with insane deformity dialed up to 1,000 is a direct attack on you because you had an incredibly banal and easily curable (in the first world) birth defect. Just extreme narcissism, victim mentality, and naked click-baiting.

Game journalism sometimes fulfills a useful function pushing back on very reactionary elements in gaming culture, but this is certainly worthy of mockery and pretty emblematic of the desperation of these journalists to insert themselves into every fucking game launch.

    Contest Rules

Entry into this Contest is free of charge for all. Your entry must be a playable map for the PC version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Remakes (maps of the same name and design of an existing map released for public download), sequels (e.g. de_dust3), and spiritual successors (new name for an old design layout) can NOT be entered. Maps that were under creation prior to the announcement of this Contest can be entered, as long as a complete map version (layout and any non-greybox art) was not released for public download. Map entries must be submitted to the CS:GO Steam Workshop AND our Mapcore Contest sub-forum before the deadline. Map authors are free to share their map on any other websites or services they wish, however the map must remain free to download. Multiple map entries are permitted, however each entry will be judged for its own particular quality. Map entries created by teams are permitted, however entrants will have to agree how to split any prizes awarded prior to prize claim and dispatch. Mapcore encourages entrants NOT to update your Workshop map after the deadline. Entries will not be disqualified if updated, but entrants assume the risk of introducing bugs/glitches into their work. Judges will not be asked to overlook such bugs/glitches, so we recommend "finalizing" a polished version of your project before the deadline in order to “put your best foot forward”. Mapcore forum rules must be obeyed. All custom textures, models, etc. must be embedded into the map's .bsp file (FREE TUTORIAL AND TOOL). Assets must also comply with Steam Workshop guidelines. Map authors must be able to accept cash payments. Winners of hardware or physical products will be required to provide a valid shipping address. Judges, Experts, and individuals associated with organizing this contest CANNOT enter, nor provide material assistance to map entrants. If a Finalist entry is disqualified due to violation of ANY of these rules, all applicable winnings will be directed to the next highest-rated map. Void where prohibited.
Contest Eligibility

    1. Participant eligibility: This Contest is open to any individual, or teams of individuals, provided they comply with the following:

Participants must not be an Employee or Official Staff Member of the “Organizer” (Mapcore) or “Sponsors” (FACEIT). Participants must not have taken part in the judging, or official announcement of this Contest. Participants must not be a direct relative, spouse, or direct employee of any of the above. If a Contest Judge has previously published a CS:GO level with a participant, that Judge will be fully disqualified from scoring any entry by that person. In place of the disqualified Judge's score, the entire panel of Guest Judges will be asked to rate the entry, and their rating will then be averaged.
2. Legal Age: This Contest is open to any individuals who meet the above “participant eligibility” criteria. In the event that a participant who has not reached the legal age in his/her state wins one or more prizes, he/she must provide contact details for the legal guardian who will claim the prize(s).

    Prize Disclaimer

FACEIT will be providing Prize revenue. Mapcore assumes no responsibility.

But the cinematics and art style overall are some of the best shit out there.

I dunno man this is an opinion I can’t support.

    FF7 was just killer.

    1. Music? Dank af. God tier.

    2. Visuals? Insane for their time.

    3. Gameplay? I think it was pretty sick tbh. It pushed a good pace and sure there were some grindy parts where you have to level up. I remember playing Final Fantasy X and getting a wee bit pissed because I couldn’t get past this boss without getting owned, so a lot of times what happens is you end up dicking around farming enemies for a while until you level up. I do not remember this being a major hassle in FF7 and I think I’ve played the game a total of 3 times. You might have to spend 2-3 hours in total grinding up level, which admittedly sucks.

    4. Story? I actually think that FF7 had a pretty moronic story but it set a great mood and ambiance that took you to some truly unique locales, sunny beaches, dark underground laboratories, skyrise buildings where tons of people got murdered and there is blood and corpses everywhere, gloomy cities and cyberpunk areas, futuristic Las Vegas, it’s an environment artists paradise in terms of variety and colors.

Look at dis shit it’s beautiful

I’ve definitely never played a game that moved through so many unique, different locales with as much confidence and so smoothly. I think that’s why people particularly love FF7, it really does feel like a massive adventure.

Even with the turn based gameplay there are some really fun memories, like if you play one character he basically had a roulette wheel so you could do 9999 damage to a boss or -9999 to yourself. The game has a huge sense of humor side of it. I think calling the turn based gameplay boring also overlooks the fact that this sick soundtrack is going on the background. I dunno, you’re missing out on FF7 if you haven’t very deeply explored what it truly brings to the table. I know, opinions can’t be wrong, but this is many people’s #1 of all time, for a reason.

You could throw in the aliens as a subplot, like destroying the hives before they can spread.

There's some good ideas there and overall interesting map design. I like that they make the most out of the spaces with overlapping routes and verticality. I don't know, I think they just overestimated how much more work this would be compared to a Half-Life mod. There's also less enemy variety to work with in Half-Life 2. That must have been frustrating. Then L4D comes out and it's so much better than what you could ever make.. and you basically quit.

It’s possible that he left the starting areas basic WIP, some really good designers have advised doing the beginning last once you’ve learned more about your mod. I agree some of the stuff gets interesting later on. But I also see where people earlier in this thread were coming from, it doesn’t look particularly fun or exciting.

yeah so turns out it was leaked back in february to the valve archive site, but those builds were taken down. Few of the levels are missing etc. It looks pretty rough honestly

    Wow, what the fuck?

It’s like a really bad walking simulator. I think Neil Manke was a way better designer than that, there was no hint of walking simulator syndrome in They Hunger. He must have been hindered by something, distracted by his health, or something.

It starts getting a little bit more interesting around the 15 minute mark, could be that the stuff before it was WIP.

Considering all we have seen of Source2 has been small scale VR games and a very messy port, it doesn't speak to highly of the company that blew the industry away with its source engine reveal in 2003.

This whole situation feels unwinnable for Valve, even with an actual threat it doesnt seem like they have any motivation at all the buckle down and make anything. Steam has over a decades worth of community features that work almost flawlessly, but what good is that going to do when Epic has all the games that casual buyers want. Another expensive VR headset with no featured games isnt going to cut it again, it just seems so odd that Valve used to be known for making well-thought out, very creative games. Now they make state of the art VR tech that doesnt do anything.

Cool post, but can I interest you in a digital trading card game?

    wait, where are you going
