Oh my god
Great news.
A quality game studio working on a quality franchise, if only this were far more common. Goodluck guys.

Glorious map, dude. Really just stunning.
Oog it appears you're not familiar with aligning textures. Click one texture and hold alt, then while still holding alt right click the texture you want to align it with.
Your curves will benefit especially from this ![]()
Quote from KoKo5oVaRReally sweet sp mod, i liked it a whole lot, and found the voice acting quite coolbut i however, felt the urge to do this http://kokosovar.free.fr/laura_go.mp3
seriously
Hahaha that is brilliant ![]()
Going to pick this one up for sure ![]()
Love your work!
Why have I never seen these maps before? They look fantastic. Any chance of getting a hold of them or are they not going to be released?
Awesome work either way ![]()
Quote from OnboardErrorI want to build stuff to show my pure skill yet i dont want them to be MP and this would never work out as SP... its all for fun. I thought if i show mods what i can build they would want me? not the case i guess?
Well the method I described got me my first modding projects (ones I still treasure) but on the other hand it never would have gotten me the same opportunities that my real work later did. So I guess in some sense you're right, but this is deffinitely not the way you want to spend your time with hammer.
I agree 100% on the mp maps thing though, thats why its just so important to get on modifications, they guarantee your work will get the limelight it deserves.
Practice is practice though, and as you said you're capable of shit now you weren't before. Prove it ![]()
Quote from OnboardErroruh? why not?
Not many mods specialize in static useless environments. Not to say this doesn't look good - it does. But I use to do the same thing, make completely superficial environments and then wonder why no one was impressed. Truth be told, maps at the end of the day are for playing.
This is compounded by the fact that you don't have custom stuff in, a small environment with all custom materials then things would still be different. Still, the question remains to those interested in your work "why can't he make it a map?"
I've played your SP stuff, I know you're capable of it. Put this in a map or make something of the same quality in map scale - thats something really meaningful.
Pink Floyd - Money.
That or Space Oddity, Bowie rocks ![]()
That is genuinely very cool. One thing I notice is those stairs are, well, pretty boring. Try to incorporate some damaged steps and such. Also the hole at the top is a bit strange.
Good stuff though ![]()

That is some great stuff man, woah.
They pretty much said they don't really need any level designers.
I think people just expect they could muster atleast a "hell no" response or something
Quote from instaSeamless loading of levels in FPS games. I don't want to stare at a load-screen anymore
Although I heard this was a feature of Unreal 3 engine.
I can't speak for the engine as a whole, but in Gears of War the levels load ridiculously fast for how good they look, and it makes playing the game much more addicting.
Quote from JeanPaulR_Yell, stop making lame excuses and just compile (full, no final) with the ground lightmap at 16. I PROMISE it will look 999999 times better.
Yep.
Quote from MeotwisterI think the picture he just put up was at a 16 lightmap scale.
I think it looks much improved, personally. The lower the better in this situation, as far as I'm concerned ![]()
The shadows are clearly a problem.
But the one thing that really bothers me is the ground is like a vibrant orange plaster, I think you should really look into blending in some darker dirt inbetween the buildings where they would be most used. Also the wild west was a filthy place, some trails of mud and sewage etc running alongside the main dirt trail roads would be very authentic. On top of that you could throw some occassional horse-carraige tracks. Just something to break the monotony.
Quote from FuryoThe day 3D Realms starts working on real projects and are as successful as Valve, that day they can start criticizing them. I'm the first one to realize the difficulties Valve has to meet their own deadlines, but I for one am still waiting on Duke Nukem Forever, and 10 years to release a game like Prey is a pure joke.
Exactly. Even on top of the deadlines thing, 3DR hasn't been as consistent as Valve with quality games, and their service's failure indicates that is probably a permanent roadblock. Seems like this guy is whining that Valve is just doing better business.
Quote from zaphodbut the fact still remains that Valve is a competitor, and if push ever comes to shove is valve going to use steam as whats best for valve, or whats best for online distribution and the welfare of all the companies relying on steam? When a Valve game gets twice the marketing on steam than your game no matter how much you are willing to pay or whatnot, that tends to be a big what-if for business people.
I do agree, but I think the one thing that people like this guy underestimate when they discuss truly independant content delivery services is that Steam's audience (completely thanks to the foresight of Valve) is freaking huge and as long as Valve keeps making Steam-reliant, brilliant games then it will stick around. People, apparently, seem willing to bite the (for now) uneven advertising bullet for not having to worry about publisher overhead. Plus this guys also discusses how their content delivery service failed for Prey. Steam's several year headstart is already showing its worth, I don't think Valve has completely neglected this angle where they haven't ignored much in the past.
The point about failure of a Valve game just isn't really even possible at this point I don't think, what with Steam's audience so huge and receptive and the otherwise huge costs of marketing the game being non-existant. "Conflict of interest"? Hardly. This is first and foremost Valve's content delivery service.
To be quite honest, Steam is seemingly a resounding success, this seems like someone not in on the deal asking Valve to give up their hard won prize.
But I could just be paranoid ![]()
Makes hammer take forever to load :X
Brilliant stuff I love it!
