They offered me a job some time ago >: D *obnoxious bragging*

I think the whole thing is very LotR and I'm not much of a fiction nerd but its all pretty well done. The combat looks very meh though totally, and its a bit of a sketchy operation, I doubt they'll manage a real game out of it.

Then again they've come this far. We'll see I guess.

Patching is just one of many reasons people may not play mods, its certainly a hassle even for fans.

A Steam patch system for mods would be a god send

Heard that this mod was released, downloaded it and ran around a server with a few devs. Nice dudes, fun little mod and some suprisingly good graphics.

I had alot of fun despite the predictable amount of bugs, maybe you will too

allthough I love Steam as a tool I think it is the reason why so many mods die nowadays. The "Userfriendliness" argument hits the nail - players expect Patches to deliver themselves. Look at the times we played Half-Life in the WON and you had to download every patch yourself (or even got it from a gaming magazine once a month) - the willingness to patch a mod back then was bigger because people were used to fiddle around with version numbers and download hotpatches every here and there. But get used to Battle.net or Steam and then try to convince yourself to visit the modpage of all the mods you have regularly. I think the popularity and support and community-strength of the mods would be rising if they would give steam-access to the mod-teams or release custom-map-patches over battle.net.

Yes I think you're right on the money.

Steam needs to figure out a way to securely deliver patches

(and then we still have alot more then most retail games)

Thats an interesting point, almost all of these games have more players than retail FPS games multiplayer mode (with the exception of a few)

It was a mega anticipated event for me (first big real mod release for Source) and I probably spent alot more time than most people learning it, so maybe its just that the learning curve was a bit much.

It was worth it though, sweet stuff

Its deffinitely underrated, I think had their graphics been more showy the mod would have been a much greater success. They aren't even that bad though, which is why its kind of surreal its gone under the radar so much with players.

Dystopia is not a failure in my eyes because it's the most fun I've *ever* had with a mod. I've played it every night for like the past 4 months and I'm still not sick of it. It actually blows me away that Dystopia is a mod release because it's so incredibly fucking deep.

Some of the maps look like ass, and it has a tough learning curve, but if you can get over those two things you're going to have a lot of fun.

I think its fun too. But not enough people play it and as we all know if you cannot find a server you simply cannot play a multiplayer game, unless it has bots that is. You might be able to find one or two crowded servers in Dystopia, but with only 69 players... barely. And who knows for how long, hopefully for a while.

So I mean the one purpose of the mod out the door, quality game or otherwise. And I think Dystopia is one of the best mods I've ever played.

I think they've got more players than Quake 4, so there's that going for them at least

    lol

All Doom 3 engine multiplayer games, Prey, Q4, D3 have serious technical issues for me atleast
