Start minimal. The challenge with Spark is to get a minimalist result, but often that's the result of extensive editing, at one point I was using 90 million lights to accomplish what fewer could have done, but I only got to trim it once I had the look down. If you start small you'll probably get a better result ultimately

I'm getting overwhelmed by those shots.
I think you need to dial back your process and focus on using less lights, less shadows, less fog, etc. You're going on a bit of an expedition right now, using a bit of everything, it's not targeted properly. The green is also a poor match with the orange and blue, IMO. It's hard to comment specifically on the shots because there is just so much going on you have a hard time identifying anything in particular to critique, it's just too noisy atm.

there's just a handful of games nobody on this forum has any excuse to not have played... mario 64, OoT, ff7, hl1+2, the gtas. any game that's been seriously put forward as one of the best of all time like those

' timestamp='1359084642' post='322139']I never played any Zelda, never was much of a Nintendo guy. I tried to get into twilight princess, played around 4 hours of it and let it go, i really can't see what the appeal is. (maybe I should have fought through the first few hours of the game, but whatever)
With that being said, is skyward sword any good?
I don't know about skyward sword but if you don't play ocarina of time you're a total douche

Some quality titles/IPs in that list.

looks promising, this idea has always really excited me and it looks like you're on the right track

Could we do another test on Wednesday at 3pm eastern?

They just can't quite get it right

New is better, but it's too harsh. CS:GO Source looks better with a more washed out tone. See if you can reduce the contrast and up the brightness a bit
IMO, the pink itself should be the selling point, not differentiation of the "look" from the other maps, because that's not a good approach. The other maps have flattering lighting

Zero Dark Thirty.
You need to see this

You've done a fantastic job. I'm really impressed by the presentation of the map especially.
My main criticisms on gameplay lines are stuff like: doors without props in front of them to indicate they cannot be entered, ladders which are on the main path enticing me to try to climb them, floors without player clipping smoothing, a bit excessively cramped vibe in some areas.
A minor nit pick about the props would be that, some look fantastic (the blue things outside, the pipes inside) but some are also overly-clean and have a weird shine that makes them stick out (some of the filter-pipes, with text on the side).
Overall high marks from me, it looks great. I love the terrorist truck that smashed through the wall. That's really well executed. If I had my way I might pry open some of the roofs to allow some more light in, you don't want things to feel too cramped.

True, true. I have toned it down since and it looks a lot better, but I still have a small issue.
This is for FMPONE or dux or anyone who knows about Spark. I have noticed that I have some really annoying bloom-ish effect even if I remove the atmospheric values from my spotlights, which may cause an additional and unintentional foggy effect; this is especially visible when I add a skybox texture as it becomes extremely bright and washed-out. Is there a way to tone this down too, or is this something specific to the editor?
I'm pretty sure bloom is permanent, iirc
Experiment with different color tones and lower brightnesses to compensate? Just an idea

I probably won't be able to attend tuesday, but maybe you could record a demo?

Been working on some NS2 map lately, learning Spark as I build. No in-game pictures yet but have this one:
[Blocked Image: http://uppix.net/2/3/3/34c473bfdbd45ff2398f33640ff8ctt.jpg]
It has a nice core look but its a bit cloudy and over-fogged. In my experience this can be a symptom of staring at your own work too long, I used to do that in Spark, stare at the same thing for so long I lost track of stuff like that because my eyes adjusted to the image.

Hmm. I guess I won't be too hard on it. It is after all a beautiful game.
I just don't feel as excited by the idea of this sort of gameplay, but maybe that's too judgemental

so generic

I really miss the old Crysis where you felt like you were a badass doing actually somewhat plausible stuff. It was more like FarCry, less like Duke Nukem

Beefeater: Thank you! At least someone enjoyed it

What we've noticed so far is that the community didn't really respond to the articles. That could be the lack of quality in my work or perhaps the content just simply doesn't interest this community very much.
That's why I stopped writing. However, Thrik, you still have one of my articles laying on the shelf (The COD Effect). If there is renewed interest then I'm more then willing to continue writing.
I think what you're experiencing is not unusual. Front page articles of a forum aren't going to be the huge draw that the forum is, but that doesn't mean there isn't interest. It's just a more narrow interest than the forum itself. It's still worthwhile, IMO
