Pah. There will be no crates in this map whatsoever. They are simply there as placeholders.

    Little update on my map.

I've been working on this for the past few days and have tinkered a bit with the layout.

I've built up the bombsites and the middle a lot more because they are the main battle areas.

I've had a hell of a lot of fun playing this with bots on hard difficulty. Just make sure you buy some smokes and flashes.

I doubt that having a move-able camera in a 3D-preview of the Source engine would be possible.

It's RAD which stops something like that being possible.

    Just to quote the post;

    Quote from Blink

I was having a little tussle in IRC with Prowl and a few others over whether the whole Hammer 3D Lighting Preview was real or just a sham. I saw a few photos of it apparently running and an old thread from HL2World but obviously you can't trust that place, so I chucked Valve an E-mail:Quote:

    Hi Simon-

OK. First you go into one of the 2-D views and make a box with the brush tool. Then...

Good question. The problem with Lighting Preview is that it is not usable in the current state of our 'release' branch. And I can't merge it from our development branch to our release branch without bringing over a bunch of changes that would not coexist well with the other tools (DLL interdependencies and so forth). So the bottom line is that it will be available once we release Ep2, TF2, and Portal.

Subject: Just a question - not a help request.

    Hi Mike,

I have a question regarding Hammer that I wonder if you could address for me, don’t worry it’s not another “How do I make a room?” e-mail.

I was wondering what the current state of the Hammer Lighting Preview is, or even if it exists currently. I understand it was an option at one time but crashed almost every time, are there plans to make it more stable for normal users to enable or are there complications that stop that happening?

    Many thanks for your time

So it looks like Episode 2 and all the other Valve games won't be the only decent thing released. I look forward to it.

lighting preview has been working in the latest software versions for a long time now. Spoke with one of the guys doing the Source version of Dark Messiah last fall and he confirmed that they used it in the studio and described it a bit for me.Apparently you line the 3D view up to exactly where you want the preview, press some sort of button, and bang, you have your real lighting preview a hot second later. After you've taken in the view, once you start to move your position in the 3D world again the lighting effect is lost. Still pretty damned cool I must say, you just have to set up the view each time.

    I can't fooking wait!

Wait a minute. I thought this was the Doom 3 engine but with "Mega Texture" support developed by the Quake Wars Team.

It's not a new engine is it? D:

It could do with some yellow/orange lights to bring out the colours of the textures. The richer colours would certainly make the place look more inhabitable.

Finally got the basic layout down and compiled.

Obviously it's lacking in pretty much anything but I would like feedback on the the timings please.

From about 20 minutes of play I've come to the decision that the T's need to be able to get to the middle faster so they can spread out a little and not get sniped as they come round the corner one by one.

    Thanks.

I thought that adding angled walls would make the general flow of the map more interesting and that it would help improve the adding of architect later in the process.

I've finally blocked out the layout in Hammer.

    [Blocked Image: http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/1534/hammerlayoutfq1.png]

    Light Gray = 2nd Floor

    Dark Gray = Dark Area

    Blue = Lower Floor

Slightly different from the drawn layout as I expected. I might add that kitchen area as you suggested if the play test is a bit iffy.

Just got to add all the walls and ceilings in, a couple of lights, some placeholder cover and then I shall test it out.

I'll upload the playable version once I'm happy with it.

I wouldn't think custom files would be registered to be uninstalled? I know in the past when I've uinstalled games I've made stuff for, it's left it all intact.

Well I just did a search for any file with the .vmf extension and I only found the standard files you get with the SourceSDK.

Wow. I really am a noob. Steam wouldn't start up and gave me this application error so I decided to uninstall Steam and install it again.

    BIG MISTAKE!

Now I have to re download all my games again and the little work I did on the map has to be started again.

In the Windows Add/Remove Window it said Steam was 1.98MB which I assumed that it was just talking about the program and not the games included.

    I phailed.
