I remember using UnrealED for the first time after being with Hammer for so many years and I was amazed. It really is a great editor and engine which topples Source in every imaginable way.

I wouldn't go that far. Its certainly better than source in many regards but definitely not all. Not to mention Source's 2004 release as opposed to Unreal 3's cameo in 2006. (I believe) So it is a much older engine, and so far is going to hold up ages longer than Unreal.

What I meant is I've tried many exposures, from long to short and it always comes out a white blob. And yeah I'll try what you suggested, cheers.

    Yeah, its extreme over exposure.

Its the moon, its very bright. Why would you take a long exposure of it?

Shoot around f/8 and a shutter speed of 1/250 (or whatever is appropriate) with an ISO of around 200-400 and you should be good.

    That last one is nice.

Not bad, I like that last one, its pretty cool

You suffer from boring subject matter though, none of the images are really all that interesting to look at. They are dull and dont contain any eye catching subject matter. Remember its better to have 2 great images than 12 okay ones. You also need some more post processing work, son! I can give you an example of what I mean:

This one: (its a little green, and needs more contrast)

    [Blocked Image: http://i42.tinypic.com/10s63go.jpg]

I edited into this: (yes I may have gone overboard)

    [Blocked Image: http://s5.tinypic.com/op61xg.jpg]

Either way, its a lot more interesting of an image to look at as I pulled out some of the reflections and added more a more dynamic tonal range. I hope you dont view me editing it as me stepping on your toes, I only want to help. An example of making this more interesting would be to have like a person hold the ball next to a window with some light going through it or something along those lines. But just having it be the ball and nothing more (unless its some really fucking good/cool reflections) isnt all that interesting and in this day in age (with the internet and flickr) images like this are becoming more and more common and you are constantly needing better ideas and execution of those ideas to make images stand out from the muddled crap that is common person photography/point and shoot grotesquery. "common person" meaning just people who take images to take them and dont care about how it turns out or if its a good piece of artwork (ie facebook images)

But after seeing these images, I say you need more interesting things to photograph, Shoot people, architecture, events, or just things you find compositionally pleasing. With that said, your images (with exception to the last one) need a way better composition, non of them really capture the eye and drag it along other parts of the images.

Yeah I can agree, it was a badly worded response that sounded incredibly arrogant.

BUT, my point (a badly worded one) still remains. NEVER, EVER leave an image unedited and call it final. NEVER. A stronger image will always come from some post work however little editing you put into it. If two people take the same exact image and one is edited well and the other is not, guess who will have a better, more promotable image....

Sorry if I sounded like an asshole, I didnt mean to.

Can you post your adjustment settings for everyone to see, JP? Cheers

I posted the original, and that was quite a bit to share. This would be going to far

I can tell you though that editing individual colors in a curves layer helps a lot. Also, using different layer styles also helps a lot.

    Quote from Pericolos0

i like the original more honestly, more color, more energy! Fits with the busy scene

Then you are the guys that think having un-edited images as final products is okay, I guess not everyone can be a photographer

Honestly, the original has gross non-complimentary colors, I really cant see how you think this

Well I guess you can say I meant what you are thinking in terms of that link you posted but that guy's images are way overdone. It needs to be more subtle and less apparent that they were edited in photoshop. If the first thing you think when you see an image is "wow that was surely edited in photoshop" then its not a particularly good image. (unless of course its a humorous photoshop )

Let me give you an example from a photo I took:

    Original photograph

(the one that came out of my camera after a few RAW adjustments like fill light for some of the shadows and some slight exposure adjustment for brighter and more vivid tones)

    [Blocked Image: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3345/3340513112_c225b95b60_o.jpg]

And then the photo with my photoshop adjustments

    [Blocked Image: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3630/3330552282_ac1398b71c_o.jpg]

Whether you like my edits or not, its still a lot more interesting of a picture to look at. Oh and for future reference, dont post original "pre-edited" images, ever
