I think the earlier versions were a bit noisy. This final version, however, is really something. The eyes are naturally drawn to certain objects and the background doesn't distract you as much. Every things looks hella-crisp. Such amaze. Wow.

Focus on level design imho. An entry level game design position is a very rare thing indeed and it's generally not how you get that sort of job. Working with level design will give you a good foundation to stand on if you want to work more with game design at a later stage.

Don't feel the need to go too heavy on showcasing theoretical stuff (documentation, analysis, post mortems, etc). A good level speaks for itself and actual content weighs more heavily in your portfolio IMHO. CS:GO maps is probably a good start since it let's you focus on layout and gameplay, but I recommend you start scripting as soon as possible after that. I haven't seen a designer position in some time that didn't have scripting knowledge as a requirement.

    And thanks!

    Here's a suggested "to do"-list.

    1. Get started IMMEDIATELY

Don't postpone or plan to do something at a later date. Get started now.

    2. Find out which specialization suits YOU

There are very few jack of all trades in our industry. This is more common in the indie scene (small teams). In any event, you should have one MAIN focus. Find out what it should be (level design, art, code etc).

    3. Learn the fundamentals of your chosen specialization

Once you know what you want to do, learn how to do it. It's as simple as that. There's loaaaaaadsssss of resources online.

    4. Choose projects WISELY

When you've got a hang of things, start doing things that you can actually show to other people (potential employers primarily). Consider the pros/cons of projects. A strange, fluffy art game that's designed to challenge gender roles in Zimbabwe probably won't win recruiters over when you apply to FPS-studios. Large mods can often take very long time to complete. Solo projects are way more manageable.

    5. Make a portfolio, ask us for crits and start applying

Get your stuff together, present it in a decent way. Ask us how you can improve it. Then start applying.

    6. Keep fleshing out your portfolio

Once you have a folio with stuff in it, you aren't "done". Keep at it son!

So yeah, do this. I was in your position 2,5 years ago or so and I got my industry job about 6 months ago.

    Good luck!

The style is like TF2 and CS:GO had a baby. I think it might be a tad unrealistic to be honest. The sci-fi elements anyway.

    DECOMPILING?!?!?!??!?!?!?!

There's nothing wrong with that, fuck any taboo remaining. Unless you copy stuff from the maps you decompile. No-no.

    Hey Setin,

I liked how the map played. The rounds went pretty fast (I wasn't ever bored) and I can't really think of any suggested changes. That's probably a good sign.

Or actually, I think it might become a problem that bombsite A only has one entrance for CT unless they loop around near T spawn.

Agreed with Chimeray. As much as I hate to admit it, Call of Duty is fucking cocaine. Ancient but super-tight animation system, Quake 3 engine rigidness, near-perfect hit registration and hella-responsiveness of basically everything.

I think the BF franchise has prioritised art and lens flares a bit too much the last iterations tbh, so I can see why some people stray from it.

    pinnacle of game dev

    1. you have to play sp to get mp unlocks

    2. you have to play the last mission three times to get three different endings (and three different unlocks)

    3. the game will crash two times while trying

    4. when you try to load a checkpoint that is just after getting in a boat, the boat becomes immobile and you cannot progress

    fun fun fun

Well.... in less gloomy news I have started playing MP more and more. Starting to get into things. I also tried disabling the kill feed and the chat box (completely), it's pretty sweet to only have HUD on the lower part of the screen. Don't feel like I'm missing out tbh...

I can see a scenario where a player is so fatigued by the original XCOM that he can't enjoy Enemy Within. But there's so much new stuff, changed stuff, tweaked stuff that everything feels hella-fresh.

Also Vilham, the campaign isn't new-new. It's still the same campaign (in broad strokes), but they've changed some story moments and stuff like that.
