I will say this, this game is quite fun when you can a, actually play it and b, manage to end up on a good server.

Unfortunately these two things are rare.

Nah, you can choose unless it's some shady Russian VPN site.

Got any example of this? Why would Ubisoft issue game keys/copies that are redeemed via Steam and not uPlay?

The annoying part about buying Ubisoft games cheaper is that you generally get a uPlay key and not a Steam key. I really like to have all my games on Steam. ;(

Really, after all these positive reviews it's just feels like the entire gaming press is on the take. Normally I would trust you guys blindly but I don't know man. To me it still looks and feels like MW1. I don't see any real progress these last 7 years. Call me a hater, fine, but I have to say, all this positive talk reminds of this:

Well, if it actually felt like MW1 that would be awesome (plus the new movement)! It was the CoD's after MW1 that turned to shit and this game, while vastly better than those, still feels like it is part of the same lineage.

Still peer to peer apparently I hear. Ugh.

Yeah, I read a while ago that they would support dedicated servers but my experience thus far suggests otherwise unfortunately.

What I didn't like with the CoD MP since MW2 is that the main game modes are DM and TDM, or something similar where players spawn more or less randomly on the map, in the end leading to a map with no real flow, nearly impossible to predict where the ennemis will be and where they will go, people spawning in your back, etc.

Is is still the case, or are there more linear kind of maps/game modes ? (Like Rush in BF, Territory/Countdown in Red Orchestra 2, any game mode in DoD)

Sadly, this is still the case. There are a few game modes where each team has their own side, but respawns are still a bit slightly random, so you can't assume you will face enemies from the direction of their "base" or similar. And the maps are, generally, like swiss cheese so the flanking options are incredibly numerous (and not in a good way really). I haven't tried any of the non-respawning game modes, they are probably a bit better when it comes to this but I find that the game is way too fast-paced and you die way too fast for non-respawning modes to feel like a good fit.

To me, the game is just balls to the wall action with hectic run and gun gameplay and chaotic spawning and firefights. While this can be fun, people who enjoyed the more refined structure of maps from CoD4 and previous titles will not be really satisfied. Hope this gives you a good idea of what to expect.

Played 2 hours of MP. It feels muuuuuuuuuuuch better than any CoD since... MW2? Not sure, but a long time anyway. I've only tried the later ones during free weekends and I have never been impressed with what I've seen.

The gameplay is INCREDIBLY fast, even faster than it already was. From what I've played, it's just a pure adrenaline kick that unfortunately feels like it might not have lasting depth and appeal. We'll see though!

Aight, I bought this. First CoD game in many years. My ambition is to have at least 5 hours of fun jumping around like an idiot in MP, any more is a bonus.

Well but you can't be too harsh to a movie that is from another time, it has to be evaluated in context of its times.

Well, The Thing is from the year after and that is really solid.

Played my second game as a monster and barely managed to pull through. Being a monster is soooo tense, jesus. The knowledge that 4 players are gunning for you is exhilarating. Even though I barely made it, I still think that the monster is fairly easy to play and perhaps a bit too strong. It should maybe require slightly more precision, as right now you can just smash wildly, spam your abilities half-decently and basically just kill everything.

    Come at me bros!

Bloody lousy cardboard characters, barely held together plot and events and the least exciting action scenes I have seen in a long, long time.

I really want to like the game, but the human gameplay just isn't great. I haven't gotten the chance to play monster, but I doubt I'll go back.

The monster is automatically more tense, I can tell you that. I actually enjoyed playing as a human trapper. I felt like there was an element of skill. When we had an epic showdown, I got the mobile arena down (big bubble surrounding you and the monster, which doesn't allow anyone to escape). I then managed to kite the monster in such a way that he had a hard time hitting me, and I constantly threw down harpoon traps in different directions, which tethered the monster. I feel like fights, with a disciplined team, is more about maneouvering and using skills than it is to spam bullets. Assault is the guy who probably just sits and shoots, but all other players need to do other stuff and try to get a shot in every now and again.

Agreed. The game feels like NS2 in this sense. $20 or so wouldn't be bad at all for this.

Yeah, that was the game I'm sort of comparing it to in my mind, and that game still feels richer content-wise.

Aight, got it to work. Played one game as a hunter (trapper) and one game as the monster.

The latter was 235% more tense, lol. Managed to win the game by just avoiding the players almost outright until I was level 3. Then I revealed myself, got them to pursue me, ran off a bit and then ambushed the greediest pursuer. Once he was down, I used their willingness to try and revive him to their disadvantage. It was a close call though and a pretty fun fight!

I can see the appeal of the game, but I fear for it's longevity. Fighting wildlife isn't particularly rewarding at all and it feels weird to mostly avoid fighting the enemies which are fun to fight as a monster (humans). When playing as a hunter I felt like sprinting in circles after the monster and only occasionally fighting it might get a bit stale after a while. My current impression is that this game feels more like a lighter 17,99 - 30 euro type of game and definitely not a full retail one.

Hostage spawns aren't random, they're designer placed. The new hostage system is a major improvement on the old system IMO, the few new CS maps implemented into the game tend to get as much or more play than the DE maps do.

They are randomly selected from a series of designer placed positions.
