well tbh, it was pretty boring and the actual event was rather stupid due to some weird things, like cutting the presentation of the nominees to 10 second trailers which really didn't show anything. BUT the pre-party and the after-show party were cool, lots of intresting people from the industry, from cevat yerli (crytek) to will weber (my professor ^^)... well free drinks and finger food is always nice...

...lot more in for example left for dead where you just join or start a game with your friends, and can invite friends....

difference being L4D allows you to have your own dedicated server and host free public games if you want to or make it private in order to play with your clan/mates and do whatever changes you want to.

It's at the Cinestar Cinema in Frankfurt, tonight, 19oo o'clock (7pm). check if someone at work registered a group ticket (there have been indivual registration and company registration, so i think you should be able to attend this as a crytek employee).

Anyone going to the "European Innovative Games Award" show tonight? It's a rather small event after all but as crytek and nintendo are nominated i'd guess some of you might be there After all there's still an aftershow party with good food (hopefully!)

LordNed - you and your guys seriously need to get a life. There's nothing wrong with anticipating a game but it seems you're going a little bit over the top. Screw a girl or two in the meantime and when you're done the game should be released as well...

i went back to the elder driver and it works like a charm again. funny enough the official wacom boards state you should disable windows own tablet pc additions to fix the issue but it doesn't help one bit...

Since a week now my Photoshop wrecks my Bamboo Tablet completely. I'm using CS4 and have a small postcard sized Bamboo. The tablet works fine with ALL applications but as soon as i change to photoshop it will only use the first 40% of the width of the tablet from the left side. with the rather bad resolution of the bamboo this is really annoying. I could fix it the first time by switching to the driver panel and changing the display projection but the fix never worked again...

sooo - i'm giving a photoshop tutorial to a group of students in two weeks (twice actually, 30 per session) and I have to keep them entertained for about 7 hours (including breaks, so real time shedule is at about 5 hours).

while some of them seem to know a little about photoshop (and some of them are pretty hardcore), there's a good bunch of them not knowing anything about it and I'd like to not go in there and teach anything like "this button is the brush and you can paint with it [insert point and click gesture in the presentation]" but show them some more intuitive stuff.

while i see the need to teach at least the very basic UI elements, i'd like to push them to something productive. I thought about working with some kind of SDK and just have them pixelate some kind of texture for a lowpoly model but I don't know if that's appropriate for a real learning purpose.

so my question to you: what would you think is the most important lesson one should learn when starting to use photoshop? and what could be a small project to help them learn it (they have no tablets in this course)?

I tend to think to much into the direction of "this bevel and emboss effect looks shitty and your half-assed full-color-here,-gradients-there-style is awful" but seen from an objective point that's more a problem on the user's side, less on photoshop's behalf.

[edit]Wtf? That's the Half-Life 1 engine? Guess the lack of normal and specular maps means so. I don't think it looks that bad really but I'm not a graphics whore. I think it's cool that Gooseman is making the game he wants to make, not many of us get that opportunity...

    nope it's Source.
