Yes, the game is pretty bug free by now. Battlelog and Origin are still a pain, but once you're actually in the game it's a blast ![]()
Basically game art courses boil down to two facts:
1) Most course teachers usually really suck, unless they only come in for one or two courses and spend the rest of the time in the actual industry.
2) Most students usually really suck, because they have been told that this would be the right thing to do with a World of Warcraft Addiction and an over proportional amount of time spend on drawing Manga figures but can't be bothered to learn a 3D software or the basics of Object Orientation unless some one is babysitting them through it.
I'm a student and a lecturer right now (and trying to break the above pattern for both), as I'm writing my thesis from february on but I left uni 20 months ago because it didn't help me get anywhere. I went back to it because you need a degree (or years of experience and a good lawyer) to get out of europe (visas and work permits). Now I'm doing one day a week as a student and half a day as a lecturer and spend the rest in the company or with the team of (former) students that formed a small indie-team.
It pisses me off how much bullshit some of the professors are talking about stuff that they never experienced in the industry. At the same time I see enough students that will quit a course because they realise they'd have to invest time outside the lectures into it or get their technical issues sorted out by them selves to be able to follow the courses' speed.
My lesson on the entire thing: Use the university as an environment where you can do your own projects and get a degree for it. If a professor or lecturer knows his stuff, consult him and try to avoid the rest of them. Get some motivated people on your team (not even the most talented but those who are willing to learn and invest time) and then get the degree done as fast as possible.
Last but not least, the best meme on the internet:
Ah, sorry guys, we had to take it down for now to not run into any legal issues. I'll update the thread and the first post once we have it online again (next milestone is beginning of february and I hope we can run some public testing before that).
Good times playing with Skjalg and Puddy - we should do like a weekly training session for us noobs
Never lost so many games in a row ![]()
really tempted by LA Noire for 12.49€. is it worth it?
yes it's just the internet-released comics printed into a nice book format by dark horse publishing. kinda nice but nothing "must have".
are you in the ukraine?
Update: We just launched the first real public version of the game! http://ringdoms.de/

Rick: Serious question - who designed the QTEs in the SP? They are the worst QTE I've ever seen - I've been a big defender of good used QTEs but BF3 is just killing it with "press E in .05 seconds to not to die" ![]()
CryEngine? (rain, skies, car models sounds like a lot of fun
)
Quote from PogoPOut of interest, what has Gabe actually done for the games industry this year?
Well, as Gabe states it himself: He's just the face of the company. People project everything they see in Valve on to him. And Valve did a lot of good things for the games industry last year - launching Portal 2, proving that a Studio that has been in FPS for years can develop a RTS/MOBA successfully, supporting Indie-Devs to no end, converting their biggest current MP game into a free2play-model without ruining it entirely, expanded Steam's reach again by a few million players, providing a working Digital Platform for the biggest game launchs of the year (Skyrim and CoD MW3) and became contractor for the white house in developing a curriculum around the education with video games.. The list goes on, but Valve/Gabe singlehandedly proves how a games-studio can be self-controlled and successful in an ever changing industry over a long time. /fanboy
woha, freaked me out when i had this tab in the background and suddenly the music goes up! how did you embed it into the side?
if possible i'd like to see those games in motion (youtube video embedded). especially on the two older titles i find it incredibly hard to see how this would translate to gameplay/look-and-feel.
also like dux said: put your old stuff in there ![]()
overall great ![]()
did they really redirect the discussion to the fact if they want to protect porn?
Quote from FuryoMontreal really doesn't. That's the biggest assumption I see people make about Montreal.
I was more talking about the visa application which - at least the last time I checked required "basic knowledge of french". I have no clue how much emphasis is on it once you are really going through the application though
good to hear montreal is english friendly ![]()
