saw some articles on this a few weeks ago and there was a lot of crying about it breaking away from the original perceived style of RE, but tbh this game excites me, it just sounds like a very appealing game, something i want to play. whether it does the original RE's justice is not really that important to me.

after all, we all know that RE2 was the best zombie game ever made.

well, i have no comment on game difficulty or the way saves are used to cover up bad design; personally i just dislike an obvious oversight such as placing regular autosaves so you don't force the player to retrace their steps and play the same thing over again just because the designer was too lazy to add an autosave.

for all the other arguments surrounding saving and such, even if you're going for maximum realism, or challenge.. the bottom line is that replaying stuff you've already done is not fun, unless the game has specifically designed to be replayable and has outside factors that change how a level plays on multiple visits.

my personal opinion is that autosaves should exist, regularly.

Considering the shit demo you put out, the pirate version is the only thing that could possibly change peoples minds.

the demo contains enough to let people know:

if their machines can run it

if the graphics are up to their impeccable standards

    next argument please.

also, sales. sure 1 download doesn't equal 1 sale, but then don't download the game.. if you don't want to buy it, don't download it.

do you REALLY believe, in your hearts, that someone will pirate the game and then buy it afterwards? come on guys, grow up.

i am really amazed by the outrage and hatred being spat out about Crysis 2. it's not a bad game, it lasts longer than most of the current singleplayer games out there, it looks stunning (and with patches it will only get more impressive), is it just a case of self-entitlement, or genuine hatred of video games?

what a well thought out article, and judging by the comments section i'd say these fellas sure are the kinds of people who know what's important in a game.

thanks for posting jean paul, i'll be sure to mail this around the office so we can respond to these allegations.

Spam quicksave all day. Everything from walking to the end of a long corridor to ducking behind a pillar reloading gets F6'd.

    no no no no NO!

that is total bullshit and a massive relic from the past. level designers should be doing their fucking damndest to make sure the experience is as polished for the player as possible. i don't care if you allow quicksaving, EVERYONE has gone through a horrible section and in the excitement forgotten to quicksave. why should quicksaving become as integral to the gameplay as reloading or aiming your gun. utter bullshit, autosaving is a system that should be there working away in the background, and when you fuck up and die, it kicks you back 2 or 3 minutes and let's you go again.

we're not in the days of the arcade where the developer is trying to fuck you for quarters, and we're mature enough as an industry to realise that people want to complete the game, and that chal;lenge should come from the design, no the lack of saving functionality.

stalker is a great game, i have huge respect for GSC and i love their work. but fuck that.

i completed it on the hardest difficulty, taking it easy, watching every cutscene and doing as much as i could, took me about 12 hours, i had none of the frustration you guys are having. i breezed through it in fact.

maybe y'all just bad at vidya

You talking about STALKER I guess... I know what you mean.

Although, in their defense, having checkpoints in certain areas of stalker would be pretty difficult.

not in a linear scripted tunnel, probably the only place that makes sense for them to have checkpoint/autosaves and they don't bother.

ok i get it, it makes it more difficult or something. but it's still bullshit.

also, they allow you to quicksave anywhere, so it's obviously robust enough to allow for some crazy saving locations - they could simply have certain areas autosave: you enter a new sub-area and autosave, pretty simple stuff.

30 minutes of gaming without any autosave and i forgot to quicksave.

this is why we have checkpoints and autosaves, game developers, because now i quit your fucking game out of rage and i don't want to do the same badly scripted shit twice, you faggots.

how far away are you from release? what sort of stuff is there left to do, is it mostly fixing up code and gameplay stuff or is there lots of level design, art, or animation left to do?

there's lots of skilled people here, maybe they would like to help out, or is it going to be a case of "we're a mod team we know best"?
