grats on the release bro.
as far as the negativity, i think the problem is that the MW games have claimed those mechanics as their own at this point, and when others use them it's seen as ripping them off.
i understand the choices, short dev cycle then why reinvent the wheel when you know something already works. i have worked on enough short dev cycle projects to know that it's fucking hard, so hopefully you won't take too much offence at anything i say

i didn't even load up the mp because i was so put off by the shortness of the sp

it just doesn't offer enough benefits over our current workflow and tech to make it worth adopting.
i guarantee we will still have polygon based games for a long long time, even if there's minor adjustments like we end up having them rendered like nurbs or some shit. this point cloud stuff is really just novel ideas that have a lot of promise wshen presented a certain way but fall down when you actually start trying to create a game with them.

you can have a quick save system but then weird things can start happening and it can interfere with AI. pretty obvious why the game autosaves where there's no combat going on when you think about it.
I really can't believe people are actually mad about quicksaving, it seems like a case of just looking for stuff to be mad about.

a few weeks of work.
Quote from Vilhamadding a quick save to a PC version isn't as hard as your guys are making out, sure you have to make some decisions on what needs to be saved and what doesn't but that doesn't make it impossible to do
wow you guys are right, i never noticed it before. it's totally just laziness.

Do those sales figures include Steam or any other digital distribution service?
Because this (Destructoid) is the source of the quote, and they quote this (videogamer.com? Is that a well know site?) as their source, then they quote the "All Formats All Prices UK video game chart", which I think is this, but I don't see the platform number breakdown.
Not that it matters because dismissing 14% of the people that bought the game because "they probably pirated it anyway" is just abhorrent.
calm down, or you'll get your panties all in a twist.
QuoteListen to your fans, get them involved in the development of a game as much as you can, reveal your progress to them as much as possible so they can be your best critics, show them that you actually give a damn about who you're making the game for and that in and of itself is usually enough incentive for a PC gamer to buy your game. PC gamers are die-hard, dedicated, bastards when it comes to their games, it's just harder to please us and thank God for it because how else would the industry push itself to innovate if we all just accepted the same game every year (I'm looking at you COD.)
but Valve don't do that, they have never shown progress or asked their community for feedback on a game halfway through.
when cod:mw2 was coming out everyone was super excited about it, then they released some details about the game and PC gamers shit themselves with rage.
in fact nobody does that. so why should that be a reason to do it now?
there were plenty of screenshots and trailers released during development, the xbox360 exclusive mp beta came out a long time before the release, and there was even a closed mp beta months before the official one.
there was lots of opportunity for feedback.
i remember working on mods and showing our stuff to people, then having weeks of complaining and nitpicking about everything. i am not too surprised that there's not more involvement from the community, because you can't treat them like adults, as is shown here when someone wished bad luck on my family and I because I ventured an opinion.
no thanks.

If a single player demo was put out, I think a lot of the negativity would be gone because a lot more people wouldn't have bought it. Or at least those who still did would have some idea of what they're paying for.
QuoteThe 360 accounts for 57% of Crysis 2's sales, with the PS3 taking 29% and the PC raking in a miserable 14%.
but even if pc gamers didn't buy it, not much would be lost. i posted that pic earlier with 20,000 people downloading the game on pirate bay (i wonder how many more on private trackers and other torrent sites, not to mention the warez group releases on the file hosts like rapidshare, megaupload and so on), so we're already in a state where i would estimate 50% of people who have played the game on PC haven't actually bought it.
what difference does it really make if some people who probably stole the game anyway are disapointed?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to defend it or anything, I think you guys have really valid points and opinions on the subject. I don't want to stifle the criticism, hopefully the guys here take it on board

After playing a little bit more I feel a bit ripped off for paying 59 bucks on the steam version. If only I had bought the boxed version to justify the price or waited for a 25% discount or more.At first I was loving the game but then I started to realize that it feels like an on rail shooter some times and I hate that. That's the reason why I don't play games like COD or Halo. I want to be able to experiment and try new ways to do things, so I agree with Jenn0 about how bad it is to not be able to save the game whenever I feel like. I don't know if I'm dumb or if I suck but nothing that I try (apart from the obvious) works.
The AI is VERY broken. If you uncloak in the open an enemy will spot you instantly even if he's 400 miles away and facing the opposite direction.
The graphics are great but I'm not as mind blown as I thought I would be. Maybe the next patch will solve that so I'll wait to judge.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the game isn't worth the full price. What I mean is that I paid the same 59 bucks for Red Dead Redemption and that's a game I played much more than I ever will play Crysis 2.
This is not my final opinion since I haven't finished the game yet. I really hope the game makes me think otherwise further on.
to me it seems there's two schools of thought on this whole matter.
the guys that prefer an open experience where they are allowed to do things at their own pace; this would be the kind of games like elder scrolls, stalker, gta and red dead redemption to a degree, the original crysis just about falls into this area.
then there's the people who enjoy a very tailored experience, a game that is more like a movie, with a pacing that is decided upon by the developers rather than the players; games like the call of duty series, medal of honor, bad company, mirrors edge, and crysis 2 to an extent.
OBVIOUSLY there's more games that fall into either category but i am just throwing some examples that spring to my mind.
the problem perhaps stems from people expecting one thing and getting another. i imagine if someone wanted to play a straight-up dungeon crawler and was presented with morrowind they would be quite annoyed. or someone buying stalker and expecting a game like metro 2033.
i think people are basing their opinions on crysis 2 by comparing it to crysis 1. the games are very different. the fact that it's a sequel isn't really relevant to a hell of a lot of people, the guys who are buying this in droves are console gamers, who never had the chance to play the original.
i'm also interested by the amount of negativity for the game, i wonder if there would be so much if perhaps it was simply a game unrelated to crysis 1. as console players aren't really as up in arms about the game as their pc counterparts.
this isn't a statement about the game from any official point of view, this is just my personal opinion on the matter, as someone who enjoyed crysis 1 immensely (for all its flaws), and also enjoyed crysis 2 for completely different reasons.
