How popular was the multiplayer in C2? I always find it hard to imagine primarily single-player games like Crysis having particularly strong multiplayer communities in this era of pretty much everyone sticking to a few FPS IPs, even though the quality of many games' multiplayer offerings seems to be really high. It must really piss off you guys who work on the MP side of things knowing that your work will almost certainly be underrated and under-appreciated.With that said, I guess as long as you have people to play with it's all good. I guess I miss the days when multiplayer communities were really strong and you gamed with the same guys all the time.
C2MP died pretty quickly even a week after it was released there weren't many people playing it. It was fun, no doubt, but it was a bit too much like CoD as far as design went. So people just played CoD that had far higher production values.
C1MP was pretty awesome but suffered from a lack of people actually able to play it, even though it was really good.

this is actually the only pro i see about working from home. i could sit on a beach in thailand and work if i wanted (though my computer would probably overheat

)this only works if your work is the kind that can be done, essentially, alone. and again i think it falls back to the fact that if you can do something good while on your own, then you could make something ten times better if you were surrounded by others.
i guess.

i don't think i could do it, i need to be in an office, need to interact and bounce ideas off people. i'm not sure i would grow as quickly as a person/developer/artist without being surrounded by other like-minded people.
not to say it isn't possible but there's a reason studios exist i guess.

i believe one of the bush's said that, and then it was quietly hushed up because they told him it'd cost 70 billion

how original sentura, why did you decide to make this project, couldn't you have been a bit more original when coming up with a game idea than to remake such an old shitty game lol!

fuck you i'll resort to racism so fast i'll lose my job

on a side note, the gameplay video was boring as fuck. really need soem better editing, would be nice to have a bunch of guys bullshit over "ventrilo" and setting up tactics and executing them to show off how insurgency could be played. the current video makes it feel like a fuck-ass boring modern warfare, which is really selling it short, and probably leading to a lot of these comments.
my fee for filming and editing a trailer is 5 trolleys of assorted vegetables, as is the standard rate in the industry.

I've already seen huge volumes of complaints about it around the web so it's not just a few picky bastards.
but it is. there's so much good stuff they are showing off, but people cling to something they can hate. it's a sense of entitlement that is a large factor in why most mods feel the need to never release because people judge the shit out of minor details, expecting a AAA quality game.
i'm offended that people aren't praising them for what they managed to achieve so far, but instead focus on something that you will notice maybe 0.5% of the entire game. Perhaps they have very good reasons for doing it like that, they want you to hear the dialogue, they have more than 1kb to spend on voices so quality can improve etc, the original HL1 voice acting for the grunts is pretty rough around the edges if you listen to it now, maybe it's an old WIP placeholder, maybe it's their artistic decision, maybe they can't find someone to fix the hours of sounds they have in the game without delaying the release another year.
I don't understand how people become such armchair producers whenever a mod is involved yet lap up shit that "professional" developers push out so willingly.
All I am saying is, benefit of the doubt, perhaps some encouragement alongside the valid criticism would be nice, it's not like there is nothing to compliment in the footage shown, far from it, but I wouldn't like to be the guys on the team right now, seeing some dickhead leak footage and then having the loud-mouthed minority rip it to shreds because it's not an exact duplicate of a game they last played 10 years ago.
Do you understand where I am coming from?
edit/ reading the steam thread he states it was intentional. so there you have it. i can guarantee you that within the context of the entire game those voices will sound fine, it's not going to ruin your experience, and it's going to be awesome. i give you my personal guarantee as somebody from the internet who happens to hold an opinion, therefore i am equally as valid as everybody else commenting.

Creating game (made by professional dev studio) remake is like rebuilding old construction. You can't just say "Let's make it different because we're not pro". It's uber for fan mod but players want HL1 and its mood.
it's an amateur project of utterly enormous scale. give them a fucking break.
