my money is on
"its going to be about that BP oilspill disaster !"

i thought this thread was gonna be about lucas arts adventure games !!! * bait and switch i say* !
thanks guys !

just finished red dead redemption (finally) and i must say i think its quite overrated !
first of all production value/presentation(visual/audio)/tech wise this is THE STATE OF THE ART RIGHT NOW ! mindblowing stuff !
but the gameplay just didnt come together and neither did the plot (no matter how good the actual dialogue was written and acted)
i just felt bored 80% of the time !
and than other 20 % of the time when i was shooting up stuff i felt like the game was playing itself
stick with the gtas or infamous for fun openworld gameplay i say !
so 7/10 for me ( 7 stars for the tech
)i borrowed the game from a co worker and when i dropped the bomb on him that i was actually a bit dissapointed by the game he had this little gem ready for me:
"i couldn't agree more i think its the most overated game ever made ... if i had the choice between playing through this once more or through kane and lynch2 ... id play kl2 "
anyway my civ5 demo turns ran out ... so i cant wait for my retail copy to arrive ( hurry up play.com) !

i read the rumor today on some gaming news site and was immediately thinking of you and hopeing that it will turn out to be false !
... i am sorry man i hope you find something quick !
-
congratulations zaph !
-
thanks mate !
-
i dont think there is a single game engine out there that supports this !
i havent checked unitys new pvs yet whats so bad about it ?
( i do all of the vising in "ponh" scripted with triggers ... so hand made basically)
-
i cant attest to the easyofuse-ness of unity !

-
ordered my copy last week why isn't it here yet ?
and why is steam still more expansive than a retail box ?
-
he made 3.8 million with minecraft ? O_O
-
i love his enthusiasm when he says:
when its done its gonna have a compiler and its GONNA BE AWESOME !

i disagree 100% !

neither are particularly innovative at the moment but the game industry still beats the movie industry to a pulp right now and for the last decade if you ask me !
check out the bit about the "BLURRING EFFECT" in this video --> http://www.redlettermedia.com/star_trek_09.html
-
clearly alot of skill went into this but i just dont get it !
-
-
that video thumbnail looks weired looks like the griffin has its normal map instead of the diffuse mapped on its tail !
-
looks great !
but i really think the environment has too much of a cartoon feel to !
thats because of all those dark lines in the textures !
if that is on purpose and that is what you are going for cool !
but than you should drop the photoreal people in the poster that stuff is clashing in style !
keep up the good work !

Quote from Chavvo
I was wondering if photo sources is the ONLY way to create realistic maps, wondering about the photoshop limits, get it?
no you could alternatively try to become as good as this guy http://www.bertmonroy.com/
and than you could just hand paint photo-real textures !
which is an absurd waste of time if you ask me ... but you would get nothing but respect and adoration from me anyway if you ever get that good !

maybe its just me but the dark rainy night outdoor envs in tf2 dont appeal to me at all is it too late to switch it to a "high saturaton midday lots of GI fairtale color"- light setup ?
-
in the last shot alot of the distance lod plants are too dark but otherwise awesome !
