i could never make my way though "surf nazis must die" :/ its just a bad movie period.

i am watching "breaking bad" at the moment after many of my friends raved about it !

its definitely very good but the expectations where through the roof so its not quit living up to that.

its like a crazy cocktail of elements of other movies and shows that i love so that is pretty cool.

a bit of requiem for a dream a bit of fight club a bit of dexter and what surprised me the most a bit of kane and lynch

i cant shake the feeling that the 2 protagonists and how the go at each other the whole time while being forced to work together was inspired by knl somehow

they looks and behave like them too in many ways jesse looks like a young kane but behaves exactly like lynch while "heisenberg" looks like a bald lynch but behaves exactly like kane.

the creators of the show probably dont even know knl and its a complete coincidence but ... well ... i like !

my most trusted review source "evil avatar" finds the game mediocre: http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showth ... p?t=139902

but i cant shake that feeling that that dude just had a bad day and lashes out at the game for no reason or bitches about completely subjective stuff he says the new york setting is boring i disagree i find jungles boring and new york awesome ! also what is weird is that he basically trashes everything except the mp while all the other reviews do the exact opposite !

anyway ill pick it up when its <40$

i just dont like humphry bogart i guess ...

there is this podcast i used to listen to: "the creative screen writing magazine podcast "

one of the screen writers they had as a guest (cant remember who anymore) was telling this hilarious story about how he met some stone old producer hollywood legend dude that worked on casablanca and he asked him:

how did it feel during production (of casablanca) knowing that you are working on something special something important and influential that people will remember forever ?

his respond: i dont remember the production at all we made like 50 movies that year. its like throwing spaghetti at the wall some stuff will stick and others wont.

and thats exactly how i feel about that movie its popularity is purely "chance".

alright i have officialy completed the imdb top 250 !!!!!!! (until tomorrow a new movie enters their realms ^^ )

so i am gonna update/revise my turds/hidden gems list a bit (everything not on this list i approve of or i think the quality is publicly well understood):

    SKIP THESE:

    17. Casablanca (1942)

    28. It's a Wonderful Life (1946)

    51. Lawrence of Arabia (1962)

    53. Double Indemnity (1944)

    66. The Third Man (1949)

    85. All About Eve (1950)

    92. The Apartment (1960)

    101. The King's Speech (2010) <---- OH SNAP !

    103. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)

    130. Smultronstället wild strawberries (1957)

    140. It Happened One Night (1934)

    141. High Noon (1952) <--- the build up is actually pretty thrilling and involving but the conclusion devalidates the entire rest of the movie

    149. Notorious (1946) <--- utterly forgettable i saw it only 2 weeks ago and couldn't tell you anything about what happened in it !

    152. Gone with the Wind (1939)

    160. The Big Sleep (1946) <--- once more: utterly forgettable i saw it only 2 weeks ago and couldn't tell you anything about what happened in it !

    214. Fanny and Alexander (1982) <--- painfull and 5 hours long D:

    237. Arsenic and Old Lace (1944)

    238. The Philadelphia Story (1940) <--- hinging the entire tension and drama of a movie on weather or not an unlikeable spoiled bitch gets married or not is not how you rope in the audience ! PURE HATE !

    245. In the Mood for Love (2000) <--- even more boring than 2046 ... its basically the same movie really !

    HIDDEN GEMS:

    197. Network (1976)

    198. La battaglia di Algeri (1966) <---- with its topic and pacing this movie could have been released today ! way ahead of its time.

    216. Låt den rätte komma in (2008)

    249. Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter... and Spring (2003) <---- just simple and beautiful

???. Le samouraï <---- this one dropped out of the top 250 recently i guess ! highly recommended though if you like crime-cover-up/police-evasion storys like "very bad things", chinamoon or dexter.

yeah i think in gears of war it all got ruined by:

    1) downsampling the textures

    2) than compressing them

    3) than baking a lightmap that is about 4 times too lowres (also normalmaps only pop with dynamic lights not with lightmaps ! )

    4) and than adding that horrible dof filter (seriously worst in the business ! )

    5) and to finish it off another desaturation postfilter.

this should become a text book example of how to ruin the look of your game !

that said i am still font of this shot all the other ones i agree look kind of lame:

okay clarification gears of war (and its sequel) is a good game !

    ... BUT ...

its not good enough to hold my interest for the length of its campaign which i believe is about 7-10 hours.

at the end you dont care anymore about the plot the characters that mcguffin resonator device everything just blurs together.

instead of making a 10 hour okay game epic should have made a 4 hour awesome game !

really gears of war is just an example for me of one of those "complete package" games that has a long campaign + multiplayer + extra game modes + coop + dlc (sometimes comes with a code in the box) + massive amounts of marketing.

and the price tag for me was 70 euros ! thats about 250% more than what i think the product was worth for me ! i only played the campaign once and tried a couple of levels coop ( which was fun mind you ! )

cliffy said on the irrational games podcast that he is only interested in making the games that people want to "merry" and not "date".

well i am more of a fan of shorter more awesome titles that are offered for less but deliver 100% what i want ! ... like portal ... i completely exhausted what that game had to offer and loved every second of it while 60 % of the gears of war package remained unopened by me ! but i had to pay for it anyway !

some games dont need multiplayer or that survival mode or any of that other crap that artificially bloats the package to justify its 70 euro price tag !

another example: bioshock 2 that game should have come out at 30$ without the multiplayer that would have been awesome !

how does this relate to homefront ? i say nobody should be bitching about the length of the campaign people should be bitching about its price !
