Even if it's natural to you, I must say I really admire that in a person. Being the same, and having lived in various countries in the past (and looking forward to doing that more), I've seen too many persons casting their dreams aside due to fear of the unknown. Props to you.

Yeah UbiDays is Ubi's response to the death of E3 as we knew it. Naruto is the one game that stands out from the rest from my point of view. Most definitely the best looking, in its own genre that is.

I never played CS at all except for some random lan party, and I did play DoD to no end before beta testing Source and am still playing it today.

I would agree that DoDS didn't live up to many persons expectations, but if I compare this game to the same genres that have been made by other companies, I can't help but think it's still the best WW2 infantry shooter out there. Look at the CoD multiplayer, with no spawn protection, and that's exactly the kinda game that are lacking so much. BF obviously falls outside of this comparison.

    Quote from FMPONE

If you thought either CS:S or DOD:S were the best games ever made you apparently missed the originals because there is no way either is an improvement.

I think Valve is rushing to a silver bullet that will give them the kind of dug in base of players on consoles they are used to on the PC and making alot of dumb mistakes on the way, in my opinion.

That's just it. I find myself thinking "this is the best game ever made" every single time I touch one of Valve's games. It's not really a problem. The problem is I keep being proven wrong when they release their next one.....

  • Halo 2 for PC - PC Gamer review

    • May 15, 2007 at 2:36 PM

Well, Halo already was a shady port of a hugely overrated Xbox game, so this isn't a surprise. I'm more surprised that they would ultimately get it out, especially when Halo 3 is so close around the corner. Yes that can boost sales, but in this case it can only deter them.

Halo's greatest achievement was to be the first FPS to actually play OK on a console. Besides, it was the one of a handful on the Xbox anyway. When you go over to the PC, you definitely need more than that, the competition is steep.

Rick, don't wait anymore. Give it your best shot, and always remember that the best feedback you can ever get isn't here on Mapcore, it'll be from those persons who turn your applications down. Always ask them for more info on what was wrong.

In other words, your future potential employer is the only one who knows what he wants to find in you. We can't know, and you neither until you send those applications out.

    Good luck

Simply put a "]" at the end of that line 9 and you'll most probably be able to open up that vmf again, saving part of your info, or possibly all of it.

Those are brushes (actually almost everything is) so smoothing them may not be an option. I'll have to check

Thanks for the comments so far guys

It's been forever since I last posted WIP screens, so here are two of my new DoD project.

Even the name of the map is undefined, so that goes to show the map still has long ways to go. I just wanted to go for a semi polished look in one of the buildings, for motivation purposes

Some textures have changed, namely the frescos on the pillars, that didn't tile. Lighting should be somewhat finished in those shots.

I only just watched the reel so here's my take on it. As Frie said, I'm also not a level artist, and I have almost no knowledge of max.

    - The brush "overlay" on the whole video needs to go. It deters the whole reel because your stuff doesn't look as natural. Besides some may think you thought you needed to add that to give it more quality, so you may be sending the wrong message

    - The Source renders could use some more detail. The impression I got when viewing the video was that you wanted to show your models, at least that's what I understood from the text. The thing is your models will only look good if what surrounds them is of similar quality, and it's not the case right now.

    - The models both look good and optimized (again, from my limited knowledge)

    - The music doesn't fit.

    - Smooth out the transitions, especially at the beginning of the reel, and take your time. I felt rushed as I looked at the video, because I almost never had the time to really focus on a specific area to look at details. The impression that remains is that none of it was terribly sexy, when it may not particularly be the case.

Keep it up, there's room for improvement but if you follow those few pointers, I'm pretty sure you'll like your reel even more too. Good luck for the job hunt

Those are called "mansarde" named after French architect François Mansart (though the Louvre, built 50 years before his time, already had similar designs) and are just a way to gain luminosity in attics, where all the royal servants were housed.
