I have been hugely surprised by Activision's last earnings report. With 4 billion dollars in revenue, you'd think they'd make a LOT more profit but it was pretty even as I recall.

In other words, it looks like CoD is the only franchise within the Activision portfolio that's paying the bills for every other failure. Management never changes. They give you 2 years to make the most polished game ever with a mandate of 95% and up, you do that in 20 months, so next time around, why don't you do it in 18 instead?

Fucking retarded, this industry's dev model needs to change fast. If you burn through your seniors and can't replace them fast enough with untrained juniors, you're left with jack before long.

Either it's a stunt to announce their new game, or Activision said something to him he didn't like, didn't stand for it and he got fired. Because as he put it on Twitter, it doesn't sound like he quit.

I like many of the changes you've made. You could still drop the Individual Projects title now that there is only one category and particularly because your header already sends people back to your home page. This will help shave off a bit of the down scrolling.

Within projects pages, I like the info you provide, but try and bring the screenies before the description (but after the bullet points info). Draw the viewer in, then let him read the description if he wants to rather than force him to pay attention to the text only to see screenies. If that makes sense at all.

Ah that's sort of the only place I didn't go to Went down to the old port from your street after eating there, then back up to UQAM and St Catherine towards Place des Arts. Eventually visited the Redpath museum on the McGill Campus. they had a nighttime torchlight only visit of their mummies and dinosaurs exhibit

Hey Toby, welcome to our forums

    Quick feedback:

    - Categories don't stand out as simple small text, try and make them more obvious

    - All coming soon things should go out of there until you are ready to show and tell something

    - All pictures should have your name and contact info watermarked on them.

    - You separate individual projects and team projects but never mention exactly what you did for either of them. Maybe they could be grouped and that description would make the difference

    - Drop the contact and resume section and simply put up the LinkedIn, Gmail and PDF icons up on the right instead of your email address. Much more accessible right off the bat, and you can have even less categories

After all this is said and done, drop the about me and you're left with no categories whatsoever, and that makes your portfolio fit on a single page before people that are interested click and discover more. But at the very least they should get the full picture on the home page. The about you can be on your LinkedIn profile.

Do these things really need to be yearly?

Depends, do you want your shareholders to be happy with you? I mean, not making them every year means you're leaving about a billion dollars in revenue on the table every year. Think you'd last long as that CEO?

(I know your question was rhetorical )

GoW III is one game that deserves hype. From a design and technological perspective, they simply outdid the entire competition.

GoW remains one of my top 5 games of all time, and I haven't played the second but I hear it's even better. I plan on finally purchasing a PS3 and the GoW trilogy, and play them all again.

I'm going to point the obvious here, but the description for the Source level is copied everywhere else except for the Gears one. Either that or it's a bug.

Navigation wise, I think it's a little too much. Not too sure how to word this, but it feels like it needs a bit more fresh air in between the levels once they're all expanded, and the entire layout could use a little polish. Fonts, the blue with the rollover, it all feels "low res". Not sure you catch my drift. Basically the quality of the screenshots often put the website layout to shame, and I think you could design something that make them shine a little more.

On the technical side, I'll point again the difficulties of running lightbox on iPhones. Your choice really.

Yes it's definitely coming, even more so because it will be funded by an industry that is exponentially bigger than the gaming industry and is currently struggling to find new ways to grow: Advertisement media.

You could see it coming when they started attaching labels to flies and releasing them in rooms so people would see the message when swapping them away

No because you can bet console manufacturers will continue to make sure they have game exclusives. Only Onlive will have to buy the hardware, you won't.

More so than the developing structure that is going to change, it's certainly set to revolutionize the industry.

From a consumer standpoint, this means you can access ALL games regardless of your owning whichever platform the game is exclusive to. You can also rent and buy games even faster than now, much like you can with movies.

From a retailer standpoint, it is a huge direct competitor, one that you will have to fight very hard against

From a publisher standpoint, and that's where most of the revolution comes, it basically changes the repartition of the purchasing cost for the final product. Currently publishers pay royalties to system manufacturers, and it's up in the air who would have to pay that now, but if OnLive needs to take care of it then the price will only be paid by the end consumer, not the publisher. Even more so, the cut brick and mortar retail takes from your game simply changes to OnLive instead, so that's another question.

OnLive is going to reveal its pricing scheme at GDC in March.

Speaking of UT3, it seems that's precisely the game CEO Perlman decided to showcase yesterday at DICE:

Bioware established itself in Edmonton and made some of the greatest RPGs ever. I think we're on to something. Of course it could also be that there is no income tax to pay so that attracts people. Then again it's also Canada's national suicide capital....

I do hope major publishers the world over understand the PC market should be treated very differently than the console market. I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt and think they simply don't want to bother with it and are too stubborn and want to impose their own rules to a market that's as volatile as they get.

Of course the cynical way to approach this is to say they simply don't get it and are way fucking stupid.

At this point I think it's a bit of both.
