So US(A) folks, how is the game?
Quote from Duff-eDisplay MoreI don't remember the specifics of the hardware but over 2 years ago I spent $1000 on a PC that still runs every game I've thrown at it with max settings. Just Cause 2, Crysis, Mass Effect 1&2. I used it as a digital audio workstation for almost a year as a hackintosh running Reason/Logic studio pro. Not to mention I'm running all this on a 30" display in 2560x1600 resolution and a 22" 1680x1050.Hardware as I remember is:
Intel Q6600 quad core processor
Geforce 8800GTS
8GB ram (don't remember specifics)
2TB (1 TB x 2)
I'm sure you could buy all the parts in my PC for less than $500 today. If I ever do need to upgrade in the future I probably will buy from a company like Dell. Even mid level hardware can max out most software these days. Why spend an extra $500 for bragging rights when I can have a 3 year warranty instead.
Exactly what i wanted to say.
I also run 2Tb of hdd's, a Q6600, 6gb of ddr2/800mhz and uptill a month or so ago i used the 8800gt (i swapped it with 5870). 2 displays as well.
Honestly even with the 8800gt i could run most of the games and applications without any issues whatsoever. I think the 6600 is more than enough and will be for few years.
My friend got a great new i7 rig and he kind of regrets it because there was no noticable performance boost that he hoped for. He had the same rig as i do/did (q6600/8800gt).
So seriously you should really consider this.
Quote from barrakidOne of smart things to do these days is to buy a small (32 or 64 GB) SSD (Solid-State Drive) where you install the SO and other "heavy" applications, since SSDs are substantially faster than regular HDDs you will get a significant performance boost while runnings the applications installed on them. (...)
I had those tested, not worth the price tag tbh (yet).

It's not getting exactly raving reviews unfortunately, i think a lot of it is due to the fact that people expect more of an GTA game than anything. Mafia 1 had the same problem back when it was released.
Yes it's useless in it's essence.
I question the reason for it's existence.
The 3D winner is the least visually appealing entry of them all imo (despite it being on point with the contest theme, kind off).
Congrats to Rob and to organizers for taking 1 year to announce winners ![]()
I got it even cheaper ![]()
Ya'll better grab this game the day its out!
Quote from MazyHmmm, console screenshots or not, the entire point with megatextures is that you get unique high res textures all over the place. Then again, I'm sure most of us know cases where the released screenshots of our games have been showing it in it's worst light and that released media from a game is not always necessarily taken by someone that knows what they're doing.
More importantly, though I still have a nostalgic love for id, then I have no idea why people are quite so hyped about this game. I mean it looks pretty good, but it ended up being more or less game of the show at E3 for most sites. Nothing I've seen from it made it deserve that.
Yup the gameplay was rather generic. In general Rage has done great first impression hence the first videos we got of it were handheld cam recordings = looked better. Then it got progressively worse (for me atleast) with each release, this one being the peak.
From that last E3 the most interesting FPS for me was Bulletstorm tbh, i didnt expected anything good from it (i dont really love epic's stuff nowdays [even though bulletstorm is done by epic's polish partner PCF]) and it made greater impression on me than Rage which was rather sub-par gameplay-wise. (imo)
Quote from JetsetlemmingAt least they don't have blocky shadows. I've had it up to here with that shit. I was playing Silent Hill 5 today and took this screenshot: imageAnd that's at max settings on PC! [Blocked Image: https://migrationtest.mapcore.org/public/style_emoticons/default/mapcore_smilies/emot_shakehead.gif] Abysmal. Completely unforgivable.
Atleast you get nurses with titaes.
Megamipmap technology really kicks in aint it.
Quote from MazyRelease date, 22nd March. Probably a pretty good spot to be at, even if Q1 is getting busier and busier with each year.http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/13/crysi ... h-22-2011/
Trying to finish RE5 in my limited time, other than that Mafia2 demo (lol).
Quote from skdrThe world map seems small, right? I hope they have countrysides like the first one did.
Looks like there are routes outside the map simmilar to Mafia 1 so it might be likes this, which is nice
.
Its supposed to be twice as big as Mafia 1 city which wasnt too big nor too small and city map of this one seems smaller for some reason? Maybe its because of how the map looks like on paper or something.
I'm in two-minds because i felt like GTA IV city was already tad too big for storyline side of things but great for exploring. So if the city size is smaller than IV but bigger than M1 I'm happy ![]()
I played the demo again today, i liked the way they solved 'hidden packages' in this game, will make me want to actually find them all
Also I got used to driving and other things that irritated me at first.
So i'm pretty much getting it day 1 ![]()
ps. noticed how there is no magazine in the mg you use at the start of the game? Isnt it supposed to have ammo belt or something?
The only missing thing in the shooting mechanics for me is the lack of moving from cover to cover and the need to press cover button to get out of the cover.
You can change driving mode in the game settings.
I played the demo as well, it has little annoying things that bother me but all in all it should be fun.

Helder wins the thread tbh.
