But well if you'd make a whole game in one run it would end up being shitty, you need to design, test and redesign if needed.

The only problem is that most of people judge maps by screenshots, we would need to go for some sort of diferent judging than before and make people actually play these maps. Portal Contest would eliminate these problems somehow but on the other hand if it be a 'scene' contest there should be no problems with it at all!

Not really, leaked hl2 maps were most likely their sketches and e3-only content. Remember that they had to build technology and wide interesting game from the ground up, its not your typical fps game.

I have a question about Clear Sky multiplayer. I was looking at the page, and reading the descriptions, and am I right in thinking that Clear Sky's mutliplayer will essentially be in and around the normal SP game world, with item collection and factions and stuff? And apparently a map editor included to make MP maps? Will there be modes to have two teams of players aligned with two separate AI factions and go to war against each other?

What You've read was SHOC MP description i think (http://www.stalker-game.com) and its normal DM/TDM/CTF game with no Ai, not sure where do you get this info from.. :megaman: ah and MP map editor is out since original stalker release too...

    Well, let me quote something:

    Quote from Valve Software

Our beliefs about work environments are pretty simple: give talented and experienced people the tools they need, the colleagues who will stimulate them, and the opportunity to build games they want to play. We are constantly on the lookout for self-motivated, self-directed individuals who are interested in all aspects of building great entertainment experiences. The people who work at Valve are multi-talented, with expertise in one or two particular areas. We don’t have managers or producers of any kind. We tend to hire senior people who have shipped several titles before arriving here. And we have also hired a few people right out of school when we've been impressed by an interesting game, mod, or level that the candidate built.

We are always looking for smart, talented, creative, interesting people who are solving interesting problems—people who will make our products and our company the best in the industry.

And its best thing you can do. In most companies ppl like managers or producers take 5, even 10 times more than the most important staff (in our case artists etc).

These costs are not comparable to movie costs yet (excluding GTA), but profit is.

Need to start releasing some of this stuff/getting previews in english language sites. The release is only two months away after all. Why do you hate english speaking gamers, GSC

Edit: The wikipedia entry claims that Clear Sky will run on DX8 machines, "Just like the prequel". Except Shadow of Chernobyl doesn't run on DX8 machines, it freaks out if you try and doesn't even draw the main menu. This is why it's important to get info out there!

(my copy of Shadow of Chernobyl has been waiting to be played, unused, for so long )

what? It does work in DX8.
