You've got to realise;
QuoteLast Saturday we had our annual company Christmas party. It was a lot o fun as usual but it featured one special surprise. It turns out that several people had been secretly working late nights and into the wee hours of the morning preparing a special video for those at the party. They created a short teaser for Duke Nukem Forever. After seeing the teaser we thought it was something we should share with all of you and while it's just a teaser, rest assured more is coming.
So it's not like it was some official trailer, just something they shared with fans.

Testing out some textures I've been working on for a different mod, though some tweaks are needed as well as many more to be included into the texture set. I might make the wooden trim thinner - just a test map. Light model needs to be done from scratch (and the fact it has a 1/5th completed texture)

From Wikipedia:
"Broussard has stated several times that the only parts of the Unreal engine that are still part of their code base are UnrealScript, the networking code, and the UnrealEd. Everything else (except Meqon, the physics engine) has been written from scratch by 3D Realms."
Interview with Scott Miller on YouGames: (here)
QuoteDNF is also famous for its use of engines but the truth on the matter is:Scott: We started with the Quake engine, but within six or so months we switched to the Unreal engine. However, I’m reminded of the story about the man who claimed to own the axe that George Washington used to chop down the cherry tree. The man said, “Yeah, it’s the same axe alright, but the head and handle have both been replaced a few times over the last 200 years of use.” The same applies with the Unreal engine we licensed so long ago.
Duke Nukem Forever does NOT use the Doom 3 Engine: (Source)
Some more quotes from George Broussard from duke4.net
QuoteWill you switch to Unreal 3 engine for DNF?No. Its a fantastic looking engine, but we want to finish on what we have.
Have you had trouble regarding Dynamic Lights with Unreal 2's renderer?
Our rendering is 100% different than Unreal 2. We wrote our own.

Wish people would stop mentioning Unreal Engine 3 or Doom 3 Engine since it uses niether... One major good point I liked from the teaser is it looks as if it may run better PCs. My only problem is Duke's hair needs more work, but it seems the staff are constantly tweaking the Duke model. Funny how we're getting Graphics > Gameplay type posts though here though... =/

yeah qft. i wonder how often they switched engines tho, i think at least 3 times. duke nukem ftw
They originally used the Quake 2 Engine, then moved to Unreal Engine and have stuck to it, making their own major changes to it. That's once they've swapped engines.

So we can hope the trailer will be released within the next 4 years i take it?
ohahaha i see what you did there...
...
Anyway, I'm surprised I missed this seeing the fact I regulary check the 3DR boards. Either way, I'm not really hyped about this game and maybe that's for the better if I do get around playing it when it's released. I do hope the teaser isn't too short though, or something on the lines of that Deus Ex 3 teaser.

Where's the original and what's the size of the image? It really does look great. SOTC

It's all map geometry with some sprites. (Changed to link)

You've shown every angle except the underneath part. Shame on you.

I suggest adding dirt at the edges of the wallpaper where it meets the "wood" that used to be there. Far too clean since dust and dirt would collect there and stain the wallpaper I'm sure. It would also help seam it to the concrete better than feeling flat as it currently does.

First screen, building to the right. The window behind that tall chimney/brick structure with the spire seems odd, wouldn't think there'd be much point for a window there, not sure.

Made a slight alteration of the second as another idea, but I also quite like static's too.

Spent the remaining time of my lunch break for this, so I hope cookies are included

Some stuff there I wasn't doing right, I'll have to give it another go. Thanks.

Can I request you teach me how to make wallpapers and wallpaper designs from scratch? I tend to be pretty bad at them and it'd be very useful for my current project. Nice wallpaper, just not too fond of the tears myself.
