yeah this year i made several photos which i think i will not use in near future. so feel free to download and use them in your projects. please read the readme file included in the torrent.

    http://www.thomashess.net/france_2nd_wave.torrent

    short info:

    2.41 GB

100% Canon EOS 300D RAW format (photoshop CS 1.0 or newer)

    354 photos

    3072x2048 pixels per photo

    enjoy

    EDIT:

sa74n requested a jpeg only release. i would recommend the CRW download due to better quality and more features while editing the photos. this JPEG release is only for those with a small bandwidth.

thats a wise course of action but you can also learn to be a better artists / designer / coder AT a game studio just apply for some lengthier internships at a studio somewhere around the area where you live

What level of skill do you need to start on such an internship? Let's say I've absolutely no idea of 3dsmax or maya, can handle a little hammer editor and have ever specialized in photoshop work (which is my case) - could I still profit from an internship? I always though even an internship would require you to be 100% familar with all tools (apart from intern tools ofc)...

actually depends on where you want to make the internship. as i can speek from my experience there are some sutdios taking what ever they can. in my case "4head studios" in hannover. there were like2 people making an internship without ever having touched maya/photoshop/code before. of course they were not paid. after a few months when they learned the basic tricks they got 400 euro a month like every internship.

in bigger companies you should bring basic skills with you. though it depends on what you want to do. leveldesign is not the same like the default prop/character artist. so maybe the game you would be working on has its own editor. the guild2 had. i used to make models/textures so i applied with my samples of maya and photoshop. for example textured characters or weapons or small scenery.

really small companies tend to exploid the trainees so be patient on where you apply. don't expect to be hired after the internship.

fifa08 is going to have so many new features that you wont learn the game within the next games release..

    thats EA sports!

btw. i kind of don't understand EA. they got so much money at least they could spit out some $$$ to the small teams having nice ideas instead of buying the next franchise :X

    just my 2 cents

Started making a map for it but enthusiasm and time quickly ran out....I think Hessi was working on it too at one point.

yeah but it turned out that i had not the time to finish another 100% custom content level. my map didnt survive the blocking/sketching phase.

this is a completely new cup of tea for me so far i toughed maya purposefully stayed away from any real life measurements and only had "UNITS" which directly translate 1 to 1 to any unit another application or game might use ?! apparently i was wrong ... when i woke up this morning i was a happier human being

i bet this is just a placebo measuring. the vertex lists of course only save 1:1

these options might be usefull for those people who want to use more physical stuff. maybe dynamics.

for todays game development you dont have to care about cm/inch/what ever. just use the default and be happy.

you have to use the hotbox icon next to the grid label.

main menu -> display -> grid hotbox

[] <- click this icon next to the textlabel (grid)

then you can set up the grid as you want.

If you want to do the art stuff, you dont need programming, but if you want to do game program, then you'll want to pick up an introductory C++ book. its a bit harder to learn than managed languages, but its worth it if you're in it for the long haul. Plus, its pretty much the game industry standard language.

and he would require a book covering programming paradigms like MVC. programming is not only to hack some code. al lot of work is designing the correct software architecture. so i would give the adivce to start with some hacking, but before getting serious he should try to understand basic concepts of how to organise code/software

I think it's kind of worse then generic. A fellow member of m-t.de showed pictures made with the lens and complained they would not get sharp. He did a little research and the final result was that the 18-55 was not capable to lighten out the chip in the correct way. I don't know if this is correct but it scared me. I used a Sigma 18-55 instead and got some very sharp pictures out of it (i write in the past because i made it fell half a meter down and it is kinda weird now)

sample photos! i get sharp photos with my 18-55mm. maybe he used jpeg files so he screwed his images with DCT reduction/compression.

Problem with RAW files is that the ones the 350D saves only works with Photoshop CS2 (or at least the ones I tried did, unless there's different RAW files you can save). I still use Photoshop CS because after that they removed one of my most-used shortcuts and it's rather annoying to work without it

you know that you can set shortcuts manually? the 350D RAW only works with CS2. no CS1 support!

It's also the easiest method . I do mess with manual settings sometimes, but automatic worked fine when I first had the camera so I don't know why it isn't now...

if you don't use manual settings please sell your camera D:

serious: you have so much more options when using manual settings. you dont get over exposure, no wrong focus, correct colors. everything is so much better.

to prevent over-/underexposure: use manual mode and save images as RAW files. you can tweak exposure in photoshop without quality loss (if you don't make +3 exposure). try it out. the camera you got there is really nice!

if you don't like the colors then use RAW mode too. you can increase saturation and tweak a lot of other things.

i think you were using automatic mode which always is the newby way of taking photos. EOS is about controlling every slider and wheel on your own. JPEG images == big suck! they don't offer you the shit you actually need when taking professional photos.
