I don't think those renders look half as good as a real, honest hand-drawn or photo-source "traditional" texture, unfortunately.

I''ve actually triedto make some tech textures myself but I can't draw stuff from scratch so I'm pretty much screwed, which is why I wanted to be able to combine the different d3 layers. I'm going to actually edit the defuse on the jumbodoor so that it looks better, watch this space!

Yeah I know that, but it's just a chance to flex your PS skills and show us how it can be done better.. if it can. Like I said, just for fun.

I don't think anyone's posted this so here it is:

    http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php ... ge=1&pp=20

He's not only making a new case he's also applied the Doom 3 GUI system with the PDA screen to his files format

This is some truely excellent work and it's still WIP...

Doom 3 engine relies a lot on the lighting to actually give it that final boost.

It all ties in it like that, you can see how the specular defines the metallic shiney parts of the texture whereas the normalmap is responsible for the 3D-effect. If you turn off the specular maps, things look a heck of a lot different...

Having been made aware that it's possible thanks to evillair posting this:

    [Blocked Image: http://www.evillair.net//e107/e107_files/images/d3_test.jpg]

An image of a fully rendered Delta labs door from Doom 3, I have asked him how he did this and having had a go myself again with D3 I came up with these:

My attempt at the delta door using his method:

Didn't come out the same as evil's despite using the same filters

    [Blocked Image: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/deathcrush/doom3/deldrs.jpg]

Rendering a favourite door of mine:

    [Blocked Image: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/deathcrush/doom3/jumbodrs.jpg]

Lastly a very quick crappy job on the generic elevator:

    [Blocked Image: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/deathcrush/doom3/deleledrs.jpg]

I made some adjustments with the lighting in the last texture of each set to try and get the same metallic shiney look in an older engine and it does kind of work to a degree. This is just purely for fun!

Ok, your turn now, let's see if you can do better than us and I'll make sure evillair sees this so he can post his own tutorial

Don't get your fingers trapped in a door, to say it hurts is an understatement:

Alcohol was involved but mostly it was me leaning against a wall and not realising my fingers were actually partly in a door hinge whilst talking to someone

Actually, I don't think it would be that difficult. Maybe slightly time-consuming, plugging in all the filenames and configuring the material properties, but it wouldn't be too bad. Heck, I'll do it if no one else will!

Spacer already did that with his Fortress forever map, that's how evillair appeared on here after IR probably told him about the praise he was getting.

    Textures are awesome btw

Looks great, really good interior lighting One thing, I don't like that purple graffiti in the last shot, also it doesn't seem right to be up there, wouldn't it look better lower down? Just a thought.

    Haha indeed.

Insta, it's for HL1 I thus that is not an option.

Why not? Convert them to bmp/jpg and throw them into a wad-file. It's basically regular bitmaps with bumpmaps/specular added in-game, right?

Have you seen the doom 3 textures without specular and bumps? They're just coloured squares without any real definitions or detail because they rely on the specular and normal maps for that.

    Examples:

    [Blocked Image: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/deathcrush/d3_dr01.jpg]
