I never did finish System Shock 2, I found it most impressive but it was already quite dated when I discovered it. I imagine in its time I’d be replacing my pants on an hourly basis.Though the game I recall being the scariest I’ve played is still Silent Hill 3. Yeah yeah, the second one was better, but that was due to the clever story and symbolism, and monster sex – it was rather lacking in Mirrors of Holy Fuck. I recall one of the creepiest things being the hospital keypad combination on hard mode, with the sadistic eye crushing, delicious.

It's still got it, I recommend you go back and finish it this time, that said the last two levels are kinda boring and the atmosphere is lost a bit, plus the ending's a bit balls. Yeah actually might be an idea to play till you get off the Rickenbacker and then it kinda sucks

SH3 is brilliant, I think I prefer to the second one myself as well in some ways. I never really got scared playing it though, just disturbed really and unsettled by some of the background music- Akira Yamaoka FTW!

looks ok, i would probably play it if it didn't look so ugly - i like gameplay a lot but i also like having nice things to stare at as i soil my pantelooms.

It's not really that ugly tbh, there's a lot of detail around the levels, that video is too low-res to really show off that much. The default character models were always pretty low-poly though, but I've always maintained that it makes the game scarier because of the odd shape of some of the creatures.

Of course, you'd have to be a complete cretin to read through the whole visual walkthrough without playing the game. Something wonderful would be forever ruined.

I read through many walkthroughs without playing the game, it's never spoiled my enjoyment whilst actually playing them since it's a different experience, It's all subjective of course.

I think I will end playing it again soon too, because I can't run Stalker at the moment and it's the next best thing (well Stalker could be better for all I know, but I kinda doubt it..)

Those of wondering what all the fuss is about when it comes to a lot of us mentioning this title, here's a full walkthrough of the whole game, which shows just about everything there is to see, only without the atmosphere of the engrossing sound effects and the actual narrative.

You're probably thinking that you've seen a lot of stuff before, Doom 3 for instance, note that Doom 3 copied a lot of ideas from SS2 which is why the game got hyped to be more than it was ever going to turn out to be. Also note that this game is from 1999, so there's bound to be plenty of things copied from it in other future titles.

    Spoilers aplenty ahead:

Take note that there's a download for a piece of Shodan's dialogue there, back in the day hearing this for the first time scared the shit out of me

    Enjoy.

Uhm... Doom 3 is about as scary as My Little Pony, you must be easily frightened or something...

Yeah, I think using City in the name is really something reserved for comic book realities, as it's rare to encounter it otherwise.

I plan on actually having a graphic novel Max Payne style actually

It's for a horror themed thing im working on.

The main theme consists of a team of anti-terrorism soldiers dropped into the city to combat a group of religious terrorists who are causing havok in order to aquire the four pieces of a talisman to open the gateway to what could be considered 'Hell'.

The city itself has become quite depopulated due to rising crime over the years so there's a lot of areas that have become abandoned and consists of condemned buildings. City would be kinda like New York/LA with less people, an area of tall skyscrapers wrapped around miles of disused crumbling buildings.

What it says on the tin, trying to think up a name for a fictional city but I'm having problems. So far I have:

Carter City (Sounds too much like the one from Manhunt)

    Nathan City

    Luther City

I like Nation City but that was used in Poke and I'd prefer an original name, your suggestions are appreciated!

Ps: This isn't EOT, so no 'buttsecks city lol' please

Craptastic, I thought that might be the case. Guess the rumours of running it on a GF3 + are bullshit then

I doubt it'll outsell the Ps3, but the sales are going to be quite high, 6 years of hype is going to get a lot of sales regardless of wether the game is actually worth it or not.

    From Gamespot's review:

    Quote

This first-person survival game is at times amazing and engrossing and on par with such classics as Deus Ex and System Shock.

Rating STALKER as high as two of the best games ever created means 'it's a bit good'.

If there's bugs and stuff, I'll wait till the patches come out and then buy it, since I'm in no rush and I've got other games I've not played too. Hell I waited 6 years for it, 6 more weeks/months isn't going to harm

The Invisible walls is to do with the radiation anomolies I think, sure it's a lazy form of design (How long does it take to put some debris or a locked gate to halt the player?) but it works here more than other games because the environment isn't 'quite right'.
