Can someone post the texture maps for one of the characters? I'd love to see how much detail is involved ![]()

teh charcters are really awesome in crysis, especially because they don't really use that complex shaders, it's just a case of good modelling and texturing. The normal maps used are actually pretty low res (something like 256*256), and most of the detail comes out of the diffuse. And the post processing gives the shadow areas a purpleish desaturated hue which looks really good aswel.
This is the way it should be done imho, there's too much reliance on the normal and specular and the defuse maps end up being very basic when they could have a lot more detail. Unlike say Doom 3 or F.E.A.R., FarCry's character defuses were always well done, especially Jack's, Crytek have upped the stakes further still!

Yeah, I was thinking about that as the new RAM sticks aren't the same make so it doesn't run at dual channel anymore. I don't think there should be a problem with it though...

The Doom 3 engine is so sexy

Wouldn't work at all for me yesterday either...

Looks good to me, would work well in something like Zaphod's game

Holy shit, that's fantastic!

Ok what I've done is take my dad's old RAM out of his machine (two 512 sticks) and then put the new RAM in there and then put his old ram into mine and we've both got just over 2GB now which is good and best of all I've been refunded for the new ones which means I got my extra gig for free.. score!

You are making 1 level like 1 building\part of a building? Could make it into a really cool old school gameplay like Monkey Island and the really old Larry games

Eh? Nooo, the apartment is one of a few buildings in the town that you can freely enter. Indoor locations will hopefully all be as highly detailed as that, whereas outdoor locations will be less detailed for somewhat obvious reasons.
Busy finalising the game structure, polishing the apartment and working on layout and design for a manor. I also came up with new creature concepts so I'll be drawing those properly at some point.

This means that *gasp*, Taylor was wrong!

Yeah it needs 1,2 or 4, I know that (because the old 98 machine had that problem for years and I never knew what it was ).
I tried out the new RAM in this machine and both sticks work perfectly and the BIOS is the same age as mine (although the motherboard isn't the same one). I think I have to put this down to incompatability for whatever reason..

KT: I'm thinking of changing the name to 'The Forever'
Actually, I don't know is the answer, it depends on how big I decide to make it, I mean I would *like* to have the player wander around the town like in Silent Hill (but not nearly as big and routes can be blocked) and surrounding woodland + 4 other key areas but I don't know if I can do that. I could try to get it done for next Christmas but I can never promise anything. Right now I have someone interested in doing music and a couple of my RL friends will hopefully do the graphic novel sections. It'll be done when it's done
Again I have to point out that lighting is pretty non-existent as the room's light strobes are badly damaged/not working. Those environment shots are brightened up so you can see the room properly, in-game it'll be quite dark, I mean it's not so scary if you can see everything, you get me? I'll fiddle with the lighting anyhow, add some glows to the strobes too. I only did a basic rad smooth and chop compile at present.

I stuck it in off-topic because I didn't know where else to put it, didn't really think it belonged in here but oh well
Quote from buddy the designerI belive you done them and I'm impressed that you did it the way i could mistake it with one of best texture work ever
Keep up the good work. But I think i arleady cleared it up in previous post though.btw: i recognize the broken glass from cgtexYeah I didn't see that post before mine! No worries anyway!
I'm working on finalising this area and then I'll make a moddb page

I tested out both new sticks with the old ones and it only detected 512mb, the old sticks work fine but the new ones just don't show up at all. I've read that sometimes you need to update your BIOS for it to recognise new RAM, any truth in that? I don't want to go fucking about with changing the BIOS unless I need to. I have yet to try it on another computer, but I will do soon.

Damn, I was looking forward to this, the other one was dogshit but from the trailers I was hoping this would be decent

Ok so I got some new RAM (2GB) delivered this afternoon (mail is supposed to come in the morning but our postman seems to like to deliver whenever he wants). I've checked about to make sure it's compatible with the motherboard and everything, so it should be ok.. only it's not. I put the new RAM into the vacant slots alongside the old 512 sticks, the memory runs at dual layer so all the slots must be filled or there has to be a gap between the original sticks. Putting the RAM into the slots and booting the machine up the computer doesn't even recognise it (ie still only 1024mb RAM in there). I took the old RAM out and replaced it with the new ones in the same two slots (with a gap) and it wouldn't even boot up I got a constant beeping sound and an orange light flashing near the DIMM slots and that obviously means there's an error.
I'm guessing this means that either A) The RAM is incompatible (only God knows why as I had it checked by the company to see if was ok, they said it was fine). B) It's duff.. or I've shorted it (which is less likely since I earthed myself and kept the computer plugged in with the mains off).
Help!
[edit]
Memory I have that works is 'US512MB400 Corsair' x2 and my motherboard is a 'GA8IG1000MK Gigabyte' mainboard.
The new memory is '1GB PC 3200 400MHZ DDR DIMM Samsung' x2
