wow those first shots look hella realistic.

Damn straight, this is easily compared to Crysis's level of detail and considering this is a sandbox game with miles of terrain to explore and Crysis is much more linear and closed off I think it's a remarkable achievement.

    Btw, this is why this game is one of the best things ever;

Yup.. you can play as a dog.. and pretty much any other animal as well

Only thing in this game that is gay as Hell is the team command system, it sounds robotic and unrealistic which is ironic considering how close to realism this game is supposed to be.

There was a girl at work who refused to do anything today because he was dead, she was crying her eyes out in the toilets.. "I can't believe he's dead.. it's like a bad dream :(" ...Hahaha.

Always been up and down with MJ, some of his music is great but the events of recent years have left me questioning what he's supposed to be doing in life...

    RIP anyhow.

My God this game looks amazing, easily a contender against Crysis for most photo-realistic engine. Obviously I haven't played it, else my PC would have exploded and taken half of the street with it But I've seen a lot of footage and screenshots from it recently, since it caught my eye being set in Russia, always got a thing for Russian environments since playing STALKER and Paranoia. It's been released in the US today and a demo was brought out yesterday, so check it out:

    http://www.arma2.com/arma-ii-demo-released_en.html

For those of you who don't know what it is (pffft... keep up, even I know all about this one!), some of you may remember a game released awhile ago called Operation Flashpoint which is a cult classic war simulator. Although a sequel (Dragon Rising) is in the works, the original developers can't work on that due to Codemasters owning the IP so Bohemia have made the Arma games instead

No it's not, but that's not the point, Salvation just contradicts too much from before.

Not gonna bother ranting anymore anyway, just came by to post this:

The complete history of Terminator, unofficial but pretty accurate from what I've seen, good read if you're can be arsed to scan through all the text

    That's what I said

    Quote from Thrik

I don't get what you mean by "more of a Terminator film". Are you saying you just wanted another film where you've got some guys running from a lone terminator in the modern world? Frankly, Terminator 2 took that as far as it could go — hence why Terminator 3 is badly compared to it so much.

No, not really.. Salvation just doesn't that feeling of the first two films (we'll not mention 3 since it's more of a comedy parody than anything) but I'm not saying it has to be like them, but it should at least carry that atmosphere so you know it's a Terminator film. Where's the great acting? The clever plot? The catching dialogue? It's not here...

    Quote

The only other thing I can imagine is being on the run from multiple terminators, which I believe is what that Sarah Connor series covered (didn't watch it)?

I've only seen the first series, but yeah there was Cromatie who is the main one and then there's some others.

    Quote

I don't think it would have been possible to do another Terminator film using that tired formula, which is why they went for another part of the Terminator lore altogether: the war. And to be honest that's something I've always wanted to see. I do see some of your points though, such as the lack of lasers. However they have said this is the first of a new trilogy, which means Skynet could very easily develop and equip itself with those a bit later. If they do depict the war significantly further through time, I hope they make at least part of it totally stylistically resemble James Cameron's rendition of the war as we briefly saw in the original films, and saw in detail in the Terminator 2: 3D movie at Universal Studios Florida (which also had gigantic 'Transformers' robots BTW, except made of liquid metal shit like the T-1000). As in very dark, very blue, lots of explosions, and lots of lasers. That'd tie it all together quite nicely IMO.

Never seen the Terminator 2:3D thing, but considering it's a ride which is probably put together by people outside of Stan Winston's team (who provided the visual effects for previous films) then they can pretty much do anything they want but it wont feel like Terminator properly because Stan's the one who did the original designs (HK.. dreadnought tank that rides over the skulls etc), I'll have to see if I can find some footage of it somewhere. The blue feel of the future war is important, it's in every film before Salvation (even T3) and when I see that then I can see that it's the post apocalyptic Los Angeles that James Cameron and Stan originally devised. It should be blue, there should be lots of skulls (with tanks crushing them below) and broken vehicles, some fires burning in the background and they should all be firing lasers.. not guns.

    T1

    T3

    [Blocked Image: http://www.movieprop.com/tvandmovie/terminator/t3endoskeletons1.jpg]

Whether it's 2018 or 2029.. it's not going to make a lot of difference really, the HK's still had lasers when they were designed by Cyberdyne (as far as I know) so the humans would surely know that and be able to steal the technology.

Seriously, Arnie gets shot to pieces by machineguns in the original films and although it damages the outer skin, it barely scratches the endoskeleton, so why they're carrying modified M16s (or whatever they are) in the film seems pointless, since they're next to useless against the terminators.

Anyway, ranting again.. let's just agree to disgagree.. you liked Salvation.. I thought it was a cash cow.. I guess we'll have to see what happens in the trilogy next...

Probably more transformers robots and huge plot holes

While this will be great like BoB, why is it America again? there were other countries in the war ya'know that sacrificed just as much if not more for their country. Annoys me.

Agreed, it would be nice to see it from a perspective like Poland or something, I loved "Letters From Iwo Jima" because it depicted the Japanese side of the war brilliantly, something which had rarely been done beforehand.

I can see why the US would want to make it about the US soldiers but yeah... it just makes WWII stuff boring really, because it's all "America... fuck yeah!" as usual. It was a World War afterall, many other countries were involved.

I was never Terminator 3's biggest fan but it's much more of a Terminator film than this crap, Hell The Sarah Connor Chronicles was miles better than Salvation.

Meh, they should have just left it alone after T2, they destroyed Cyberdyne systems and the parts of the T-800 from the first film, it never made sense how they could still have replicated the units without the knowledge of the original data to hand.

What does that mean, satellite based AI?

Uhh... AI intergrated into a satelite network? Skynet is supposed be a computer network that controls the US military, I'm sure it was mentioned in T3 that the satellites were used to relay messages to launch the missles at Russia initially, I could be wrong.

    Quote

It was explained. Kind of. The whole thing was a plot to lure bale into skynet (to rescue his soon-to-be-father), and then skynet could kill him.

Yeah exactly, "kind of" in a half-assed way that I probably missed because the film spent more time throwing pretty looking special effects at the screen. Either way it's still stupid.

    Quote

No idea how you missed that when he called her his wife at his deathbed.

Missed it because I probably falling asleep by then or didn't care. Besides, you're supposed to indentify with characters at the beginning of the film, by the end it's too late.

    Quote

This was also explained rather early in the movie. The terminator HK's hunt better at night because of their infrared vision... Makes sense to me. If they hadn't done it this way because of something that was stated in the first movie then I think a lot of idiots would ramble on about the terminators beeing lame, not having infrared vision.

Kyle explains to Sarah that they stay low during the day and hunt at night because it's easier that way but they use infra-red so they still have to be careful. It completely contradicts the original film.

    Quote

This movie is a lot earlier in the timeline than what you are remembering from those scenes, so no, lasers wasnt invented yet.

Not that much earlier in the timeline is it? If skynet has robots at it's disposal I'm sure it has lasers too, it's perfectly possible that the humans captured their technology and replicated it for themselves.

    Quote

Except they didnt morph and was basically just a motorbike with guns attached, not that hard to believe existed given that skynet had planes, walking robots and swimming monsters.

Still crap, still more like Transformers than Terminator.

    Quote

Lol, how do you know that skynet couldnt ever possibly have known this? In the first movie the terminator is sent back to kill Sarah connor, John connors mother. How did it know then that Sarah was his mother? I mean, comeon, do you need everything explained?

Skynet knows that Sarah is john's father because it retrieved records of her existence after Judgement Day, it didn't know exactly where she was and what her full name is which is why The Terminator murders several other Sarah Connors in the first one. Can't be that hard to trace a bloodline can it? Kyle Reese was never in a relationship with Sarah because he never officially existed in that timeline except for a few days, how could they work out that they slept together?

    Quote

Did we watch the same movie? The movie is set right after Judgement day, and following your own logic they just learnt how to replicate the t-800's to look like humans...

You missed the point, Skynet learnt how to replicate the T-800s into looking like humans, not the humans themselves. All Cyberdyne made was the endoskeletons themselves, nothing else.

No point arguing and trying to justify the flaws, the film is complete fail and we all know it.

Or maybe I'm just too much of a Terminator geek

Why not? They're really going to scrap years of development at the behest of an internet petition.

High-five man, let's do this shit!

Oh ok, you were being sarcastic.. but yeah I just can't believe they want to reinvent Max Payne like this. Why the fuck do people keep trying to change franchises? Silent Hill Homecoming tried to change the franchise by making it more combat orientated and thus completely missed the point, Resident Evil went from zombies in a fictional US mansion to alien hybrids (or whatever they are) in Africa and now Max Payne is going to Brazil!

Looking at the shots of Sao Paulo, it seems like it could work very well, just give Max his trademark jacket back, make him less hairy and set the game at night (cause you know.. MP never had any levels in the daytime) and it could be something special. I can't believe that they said in that article they went to large lengthes to research Sao Paulo when it's actually just a generic Rio setting which looks like borrowed content from the upcoming Modern Warfare 2!

I might buy it, but I'll be waiting for the reviews and youtube videos of people actually playing the game before I decide to make a purchase or not.
