I'm really liking this game. Looks pretty and plays good with a controller.

The epic dust storms caught me completely by surprise. They are one of my favorite random events I've ever encountered in a game. I mean the timing and all that is just nailed so well. First your buddy cries out that a dust storm coming, then you peer to the horizon to see a frigging huge cloud of dust rolling in and the time you're stumbling and trying to find a shelter - WOOSH! Whole sky turns black and there's dust, debris and lightning everywhere. Love it.

Came up with this thing because I thought it would be simple. Well it really wasn't because of the limitations with Havoc physics and moving collision meshes. Took way much longer to get the board at least working. But you need only one quick movement and the ball goes straight through the board

Weird seeing all that powersuit crysis thing mixed with borderlands loot explosions labeled as a Doom game. Really, really weird. Looks fun though.

True, but I really wanted to have the extrusions in the model instead of being just baked in. Are you suggesting I should use floating geometry for them?

I've tried so many different things to get the least amount of polies on those panels and that's the best I've managed to get with the least baking errors.

Tried if I could light the whole scene with texture lighting but after fiddling around with it. It just looked horrible.

Here's a picture of my previous testing.

    [Blocked Image: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/44433595/solaris/doorway12.png]

After doing some research I found that apparently Epic hadn't figured out how to do texture lighting properly for UE4. It's just a broken feature in it's current state. Oh well.

Anyway, this is how it looks like now.

    [Blocked Image: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/44433595/solaris/doorway17.png]

Not much has changed. I've just been correcting my stupid mistakes I've made to my models. The panels were previously having a lot of shading problems when I tried to bake them. So my quick and dirty solution was to just up the poly count. But I knew I could do better, so I did.

    Same with my doorway.

So about a year ago I watched the movie Solaris and after seeing this corridor I wanted to recreate it in Unreal.

    [Blocked Image: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/44433595/solaris/1.jpg]

but like most things, I lost interest in it and forgot about it and it was left at this stage.

    [Blocked Image: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/44433595/solaris/doorway5.jpg]

I decided to pick this one up again a few weeks back and this is what it looks like today after having reworked almost everything.

    [Blocked Image: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/44433595/solaris/doorway16.png]

It was such a pain to get proportions properly for this scene since the movie reference was shot with a really wide lens. Not sure if the corridor should be wider and shorter still. Though I'm not really concerned about it anymore.

Once I've finalized the modular pieces I'll make it curve as a final touch.

I use remote desktop all the time, saves from the hassle of ever having to move files from laptop to my desktop (cloud?? who needs em!). It works so well that I could easily play games which my laptop can't run with playable framerate. Sadly the remote solution has slightly different mouse mapping and makes the mouse out of control if there's any camera controls involved.

In my opinion the plain MS remote desktop is the best both on phone and on laptop.

    Looks awesome!

You could get motion blur for your blades with rendering some frames of your blades doing a rotation and putting that into a video editing software like after effects which has a filter for motion blur. Easy to tweak the numbers afterwards to get the effect you like.

Blowing some dust off from my ue4 scene project I abandoned. I remade my doorway model for more detail and cleaner bake. It was pretty crappy before.

Still hasn't fixed the launcher problem.

I can't play gtaV with my main windows account because the launcher won't work with my main account because my account name has some "foreing characters"

Other than having a windows account made just to play gta, it works amazingly well. Good frames per second, no stuttering (installed to ssd), it's a great game!

So people seriously just throw blindly money at some voice in a video telling they need money for something ridiculously ambitious game like that?

That might as well be just one dude with too much time in his hands showing his ue4 scenes... There isn't even one mention about what team is behind all this.

I didn't play any of the dead island games so I didn't find anything off-putting. Having said that...

I'm totally hooked to this game. It's really a blast.

The parkour is done well and once you level it up, it really gets fluid like in Mirror's Edge style fluid.

Though It's sometimes confusing where to land from high places since the garbage piles arent always in any obvious locations, and I really just figured out that you can also land on garbage containers without fall damage... which aren't even colored blue like the garbage bag piles.

Random events are also really nice, I always go for the air drops. They are fun to get especially in the night when theres lots of nasty and powerful zombies around. There seems to be a nice balance of random events it doesn't feel like theres too many of them at any given point.

Resources seem to have a good balance also. I don't seem to get too many medpacks or money. I run out of medpacks really quickly if I decide to go dicking around during night times. And then I have to search buildings the next day for materials. The prices for really good melee weapon or gun is so high that you burn everything right there for one good piece and most of the time it seems like a good investment since it's extremely rear to get a good weapon from your enemies or chests.

I've only played co-op once with some randoms and it seems like it's done right though I'm worried it might get too easy to play once you get a full group of people. You can progress the main campaing in co-op which is awesome. I wish Far cry 4 had this feature.

It also had a versus style multiplayer which felt really unfair alone against the hunter zombie, but I guess it's fun when there's a group against the hunter. It was nice also that the versus games can occur when playing the campaing, like getting invaded in dark souls.

Performance is also pretty good with my good old 660 GTX. My fps is averaging at 40-50 with everything but shadows at high.

Well, these are my impressions of the past 8 hours into the game.

edit: 660 gtx instead of 460 - silly me.
