All I see is a developer continuing what they set out with from the start. You're pretty much wrong if you think every developer isn't basically trying to do the exact same thing. Everyone is looking for something they can iterate on for at least a decade or so, the difference is most developers don't find that. IW/Respawn did.

Every popular MP game was basically made 15-20 years ago. I could see the retread criticisms if it wasn't for the fact that there's very few examples of this not being the case. Didn't seem to bother anyone that TF2 was pretty much exactly TFC at its core (which in turn was QF). Of course, it didn't look like TFC, so most weren't bothered. Or were shits and hadn't played the predecessors.

Point is if you're mad about Titanfall not sure how you're cool with the current state of multiplayer in general. They're all old ass games with modifications from iterating overtime. That's pretty much how it's done.

I've clocked 100+ at this point. BF3 has better direction art wise, though BF4 is pushing more in terms of scale (I guess what do I know) but something is lost along the way, thing's don't feel as coherent. BF3 stuck with a pretty consistent set of environments for the most part and everything had a nice even layer of grit and dirt on it, including the weapon models. There's probably more different places and shit in BF4 I guess, but BF3 is so coherent visually in every way compared to BF4 it's hard to ignore. And the DLC maps improved beyond what shipped with BF3. Aftermath maps were fucking so good, fuck. That market level was incredible looking.

Maps themselves is tough. Lots of neat ideas all over the place but only Shanghai and Paracel Storm feel like the real deal in BF map terms. They offer lots of unique shit to play out plus paracel harkens back to battle of midway 1942 glory days a bit. Shipped maps in general are fine just boring and safe for the most part. Seem to be more focus on symmetrical layouts in most cases. It's the Black Ops of Battlefield maps-wise.

Commander is dumb/useless, pretty much made for Ipadding twats to feel like they're contributing. AC-130's are dumb. china rising maps are dumb. Spawning sucks in domination. Oh and floodzone domination layout, wtf. A-B are like 5 feet from each other with C 1km away and then you get spawned like half away across the map away from everything. I don't get it.

game is still good but is not the immaculate conception we know as BF3.

also why they never brought back Grand Bazaar is a good onel. Best map from 3 totally overlooked.

The benefits of an out of game server browser far outweigh any of the positives (there are none) of having it in your in-game UI. I can't think of a single reason why it's better for the developer or the player to implement a server browser in game aside from people unwilling to accept anything at all different.

But wait, Steam does this and has for 10 years and it's amazing and life changing, no more fucking around just jump into your MP match and you're good to go.

Battlefield does it and it's the worst thing that's happened to the human experience and gives you diarrhea also.

I guess for a genre that's only been recognized outside of mods for just a few years it's had its share of games announced since then. The impression you get is that every one and their sister is trying to get one out there. And what's it only been, 4 years since League came out?

I certainly can't mistake anyone for thinking it's crowded but when you look at what's actually there it's relatively sparse.

I guess you could add Dawngate to that list as well, it seems more in line than something like Smite. Which I played the tutorial of and feel my conclusion of 'yep that's dota in third person and it's as awkward as you would expect' was pretty accurate. Pro game developer mentality right here. I might even watch a youtube of it to further develop my opinion

They don't require as much raw reaction time though. CS/Q3/Starcraft I/II are far more demanding on just an input level than dota. There's just that initial knowledge base that throws up that wall and I guess if you aren't familiar with War3 mechanics it's even steeper. I'd say they're more approachable than a shooter, since they're a balance of input/knowledge/strategy, with the latter 2 being the heaviest. I consider my self pretty good at the video games and counter strike/Quake 3 scares the living shit out of me far more than any dota-like game ever has.

Man it really is a dark day when this is the first thing full of shit cunts focus on when they get a new game: hastily switch on some texture detail settings and then proceed to run around and hump the walls and complain they saw a low res paint bucket mesh and record a youtube video of it with commentary so other people can watch it instead of just playing the game as it was intended.

And then create another one talking about how they're a fucking idiot but oh look this flag texture is still kinda low res, lol, terrible, lol

It's not a fucking material simulation program, it's call of duty.

'Dated looking mess of a game'.

I've put 10 hours into the game since tuesday and I still don't think I'm even close to being able to coherently judge the game at all. There's a ton to take in, not sure I've even played all the maps yet.

Had a lot of great moments so far and it's actually changed some subtle but pretty impactful things that I wasn't expecting. The ammo loss on reload is one of those, the game's actually shifting back more towards 1942/BF2 era mechanics than BF3. The game feels a touch slower and the perks aren't instantly activated anymore and are hardly as apparent as the old BF3 perk system. In general it just feels like a more paced, tactical version of BF3. Plus TDM's and Domination don't feel quite as much of a clusterfuck as BF3, as fun as that was at times.

I can rarely get through an article these days without my eyes bulging out of my head and involuntarily ctrl-w'ing that shit.

So I go to neogaf and read thread titles to see what's happening.

That said, unless you're REALLY looking forward to get your hands on the fresh breeze of next gen, there's not a lot of incentive to do it right away, the launch titles even though this is the best launch titles list from any console ever released, it's still a short list and many of them are cross platforms.

No PGR for Xbox is a goddamn travesty. Even if you could see it coming 4 years out. Forza doesn't fill those shoes and I honestly can't think of anything else off hand.

Killzone is a solid launch title but that's really it.
