My only complaint is that it looks like its laid out in a grid, everything is very linear. I would like to see more curved streets, forked intersections etc. Also needs more color, very bland looking

That's fair. Though it was sort of the idea I had going in. I wanted to make a simple DoD map similar to those from the early HL1 days. Something like Caen. Just, straight forward, iconic kind of maps that really nailed that open, building to building combat I really miss in the Source version. Just about all the official maps go for this tight, corridor gameplay that I never really felt worked to DoD's strengths.

Not to argue my way around the criticism, but I really wasn't trying to make anything you hadn't seen or played before, just something that wasn't really available in DoD anymore.

Hey, let's not turn this into a halo hate thread. This is a Killzone 2 hate thread.

OK SO EVERYONE LIKES THE SEWERS RIGHT.

Looks like I've got some extra toying around to do. Thanks for the comments.

If i was you, i would carve some sewer holes in the ceiling. They don't need to go out in the level, just put a pure white texture behind a grate with an alpha map to simulate it and make the light coming out from there with a nice subtle radiosity lighting the sewers. + the fog

I'll give this a try, see if I can pull it off. Might be awkward with the position of the sewers being directly under the streets at times...

The cap point in that first shot looks really cool, could be a lot of fun. The brick work combined with the interior walls is neat too.

I actually kinda prefer the concepts lighting setup, there's a little more contrast and things popping out than in the in-game stuff. The screenshots seem a little washed out in comparison, which seems to be the idea, but I think something closer to the concept would work better. The god rays from the canopy could be really nice.

Or just more contrast in the current setup. Either way, it looks cool, if I had UT3 I'd give it a whirl.

Played a few matches, both online and vs comps. So far I'm digging the emphasis on units and heroes. I found base building in both DoW I and CoH to be pretty much irrelevant after the first minute or two of the game - they really had no significant impact on how things played out. Plus, the only useful stuff like turrets and mines are still placeable anyway.

But, the unit counts and battle sizes being scaled back is a bit of a downer. The spectacle of DoW was really what pushed it ahead of every other RTS and that might be hard to reach outside of a 3v3. Still, the game looks great and has lots of little abilities and items to play around with.

    I APPROVE.

Finally finished downloading this last night, took awhile. Hoping to check it out more thoroughly tonight. I only fired it up to change some video settings but the Windows Live integration at least seemed less of a pain than Gear PC was.

but i do not like color correction post filters.

There are none The entities aren't even setup for it in the map. I'm with you though, they often feel like cheating. And Source's color correction, from what I've noticed, works more like a mask than having any sort of control over the color values in a scene.

also the lights in the sewer ... first of all i think sewers don't really have lights especially not in the 40s and if you wanted to get a beams like this out of a light source there needs to be water particles in the air to bounce off of ( read fog ... as already mentioned )

oops my nitpick alert just went of ill stop now

Good points, the sewers always bothered me

":3lc9d76s]The only thing that might look a little odd to me are those "light shafts" on this screenshot, maybe you could have added a bit of fog instead.

Totally agree, It's definitely odd looking without the fog to back it up. I kind of settled on the way it is now after screwing around with it for awhile and getting fed up. Something to revisit that's for sure.

I'd dig up the news post if I wasn't lazy but it was something like "Relic very interested in paid DLC"

So, maybe that's the reason for the lack of maps? How that'll work on PC is beyond me.

I don't think learning to model will be too necessary, there's already a ton of meshes/textures available with UT3 for you to get creative with. Not to mention the flexibility it has over Source with mesh scaling and the real-time lighting preview. If you've figured out Source and the content pipeline for that engine, Unreal is a walk in the park by comparison.

Also, UT3 is Unreal Engine 3.

Enjoyed the demo, but where did lean go?

    Quote from Sentura

i tried it. i never actually played the first one, so jumping into the game in medias res felt awkward. i feel compelled to ask, is there anything but story and fighting involved, or are there puzzles as well? i understand there's much startling and mind fuckery abound, but is there more depth than that?i enjoyed it, although there was no real point where i got terrified or scared like in e.g. stalker.

I wouldn't expect any real puzzle solving type situations, at least going by the original. It's pretty even balance of scary shit and shooting guys in slow-mo. The demo really caught me off guard in one spot, I guess it's cause I wasn't expecting it from the demo for some reason.

If you haven't already, check out the first Condemned. It's a truly awesome game, ranks way above FEAR, I think. Lots more environmental activity and exploration and a lot more unnerving.

    One word - DELUSIONAL.

It's PR. They aren't just going to come out and say, yeah, shit's rough, we haven't hit all our marks, maybe we could have done things differently. They're going to continue to spin whatever their situation is into something that sounds positive and deliberate on their part.
