Normal is fun mode. Everything else is grind excessively to justify purchase mode.

Shallow means lacking possibility, outcomes or experimentation which the skill system is not. It’s lacking in long-term punishment for making a bad decision sixty hours previously. Most characters in Diablo 2 were running the same build because of this. If you want to give your character the wrong stats I guess you could use gems? There are item sets. Story gets weaker with each act.
I was off on the skill system, it is an improvement over the tree. I experiment more with it. But it's usually only for a few minutes, then I switch back to the build I'd been using for the last 20 levels. It's nice to be able to switch between skills so quickly but when there's almost nothing in the environment or enemy types that force you to make interesting choices with the your build it doesn't really matter. I'm on Act II Nightmare, and unless the game somehow evolves beyond avoiding instant kills and running around until my cooldowns are finished, I'm not sure what's in it for me to play beyond this point. Besides having to click and hold on an enemy for 4 times as long. Normal is cake but at least I can cut through enemies fast enough before boredom sets in.

It's not a fair comparison, Dark Souls has a combat system. Diablo has

No way will a studio green light a movie with a budget without any or hardly any dialogue. Which is what this would need to be. And it won't be.
-
Just gonna find a nice shit hole theater and see it in 2d, with bad sound, a shitty fucking screen, and two young cunts making out in front of me. Just as intended.

I usually don't care when a game fucks around with its base feature set to make things more interesting but I don't get how this is moving forward or better or whatever. I think it's consolidated shit to a point where the fun of building a new character has been sucked out of it. I've probably mentioned this stupid shit before but the ability to tweak minor attributes for your character goes a long way. It's a large part of the fun I had with these games because otherwise they aren't really skill or knowledge based and they aren't really strategic or even reaction or timing based at all, not in any meaningful way anyhow. Which doesn't leave much for me, the loser who wants to tweak numbers and pretend he's made some unique combo the developers never thought of, which has totally never happened but I like to pretend it has. Also I'm a loner and don't party up so that shits out. Coop is lame game breaking nonsense anyway, across the board, all genres. For the most part.

I'm playing a witch doctor and my mana won't stop regenerating. I'm trying to be all conscious of my resources and shit but it doesn't seem to matter. And are runes just a level 2 of your current spell but you have to wait 90 levels before you get that verison, or something. Also I have a dagger as my primary weapon but I don't use weapons now because I don't have a regular attack and I'm told by people I've been playing Diablo wrong since forever by using regular attacks. why do I have a primary weapon then.
I'm sure I haven't played enough or some shit but whatever there's a lot to this game that doesn't make sense to me. Like why do I have to accept a skill binding when selecting it in the skill screen why can't I just click once. Or did it take 12 years just to animate all those collapsing shelves.
-
Finally, this movie has earned it's rightful place on the IMDB top 250, way passed Dr Strangelove and Apocalypse Now.
-
So I played it for 15 minutes before quitting because I couldn't figure out how to get my standard melee attack back after assigning the Monk's spin kick to right click. And when I quit it did a 10 second countdown, locking the screen, while zombies chipped away my health. What the fuck. I guess I noobed my way through to the other side cause I don't get the interface.
edit: I figured it out, I just have to try to double bind the skill on right click to left click and it frees it up. Advanced maneuvers.

i REALLY hope c3 wont be like c2 in terms of how gunfest like the gameplay was. i LOVED the c1 sp because it let you stealth around, in the second one it's like everyone is on super fucking high alert at all times, and there are sections that you literally can't go through invisible, and that really broke the game for me. so yeah, here's to the vague hope that c3 stealth will be better
This is what I felt actually broke the game. Stealth was often the easiest and quickest way through an encounter without any real repercussions. What use is it if all it does is allow the player to avoid the actual game? Stealth in C2 wasn't an interesting decision with pros and cons or a choice that allowed players to get especially creative, it just let you skip sections of the game.
It works in something like Deus ex because it was often the more difficult, meticulous, and rewarding approach, with plenty of over arching story benefits while fulfilling that particular fantasy of not killing dudes cause I'm a good guy and I don't do that. Crysis doesn't exactly offer much outside of being a bad ass in power armor, which is fine, it just means the stealth aspects should be used for things other than breaking the game. Which unfortunately seems to be what most people want to do with it.
Player choice isn't automatically a benefit to the design. Shit has to mean something at some point.

a large majority of people working in the game industry know nothing about actually developing games at all! They have no skills in design, programming or art production, literally the only things necessary to develop a game. This still blows my mind every day

Sometimes, "foreign" films can be more appealing to the "foreign" crowd. The Swedish film industry is an inbred mess and I'm allergic to half of the actors in the original; especially the guy playing Blomkvist. So I can't really give an unbiased verdict. Loved the american version in any case.

Went back to creep this thread before I posted to see if anyone caught this. I was going to post basically the same thing but about the american version. Had trouble getting by James Bond as Blomkvist. And I perfer rapace's salandar.
I don't think it mattters in the end which one you see though. They're both good. I think the swedish version took it a bit slower with the vagnar story where the american version speeds through it to spend a bit more time with lisbeth's fucking around at the end. But it also has that swanky ass intro with the led zeppelin cover so that wins some points too I guess.

I lived up to my previous comment of playing another 70 hours. Oh god why am I admitting to this. look away im hideous.

40 hours in this is the best game last year.
I don't think there's anything I don't like about it. I think it's probably one of the few basically perfect games. 12 fps or not.
