my little cozy game so far

MAN IT S SO CUTE awesome

LATTEH, it's looks quite cool, but yeah there's too much contrast in the lighting, try to not use too much black, more of a color tainted black ! Your lighting tends to be a bit "blobby" as it seems you were using only omni lights; try to get more lines with the shadows in there

So here is a big update! I spent the last week working like mad on all the new foliage pieces I’ve added. The largest part of the work is behind the railings, but I have also done a lot to the front area too. Nearly every asset has got another pass of love. Most of this work was done to bring a greater sense of unity to my colour pallet. Gonna call this done, as now I feel I need to move on to another project for a bit. That is unless anyone has any more awesome advice, otherwise I'll sort this into my portfolio soon.

Thanks for the comments again guys, much appreciated. I hope I addressed your colour concerns too Koko, it certainly made an improvement to my eyes.

Fantastic !!! awesome job in the end

As your scene is seen for very close, be careful about the pixel ratio of everything !

It would looks also super cool with some fresnel in the shader for the render i think

It's again much much better than before knj ! great work !! you keep progressing

i've made a quick sculpt to show you how i would have done the edges of the block,

First blocking it out with claytubes

    [Blocked Image: http://kokosovar.free.fr/crack1.jpg]

then with Planar and planar cut, making something with more hard edges ( i use planar with the add and sub options, a bit tricky but very useful for hard edges !!!)

    [Blocked Image: http://kokosovar.free.fr/crack2.jpg]

And maybe smoothing it out with trim dynamic but yeah, i'm not sure about that

Dude thanks, it's way too much, no false modesties there, i guess it's since i started making some broken blocks of concrete in 3D with zbrush... all of this is actually very strange

":cl79eirg]As I understood, you're going to tackle the full environment based on that concept, right? I'm not a big fan of these environments on pedestals. So with that being said, and like pogo mentioned, make sure you block out, and get the scale for your stuff right, before going in and detail it all up and start to sculpt, texture, etc. It may save you hours of headaches.

Yeah that's the idea, i know in the end it won't be something "usable" ingame :/. The main problem is the time, ( otherwise France will stop giving me money ) I know i could use modularity to speed up but i'm not totally confident with it and i want a composition that looks straight from an illustration !

My workflow for the texture is actually quite simple :

I get the Normal and Ao from the highpoly with Xnormal

Get them in photoshop, and then make the cavity map from the normal map with Ndo (thanks teddy ) I find it quite useful to make the highlight map

For some models i also bake the Ao from the lowpoly, to fit a bit more the geometry of the lowpoly

Add a layer of middle grey as a background and then paint more volumes like heights etc, sometime i use a heightmap from Xnormal to do that job; and basically that's it, i have my basic volumes.

then goes the texture / color variations etc,

I uploaded the .psd in case you want to check it out http://kokosovar.free.fr/pavement.zip

    Yo guys !

So everyone already seen it i guess, but i'm still making a progress thread for my scene; First to share it with you guys, getting me motivated , and having everything in one place, as i find it more easy to find my stuff in mapcore than on my pc :derp: .

So here's the rough concept of the global composition of the scene : so it's all very inspired from the environments of tekkon kinkreet an anime (lol)

    [Blocked Image: http://kokosovar.free.fr/tekkonsketch.jpg]

I still need to get colors in there, but i received some critics that i still lack a point interest in the composition (ie: a human presence i guess) so i still need to figure that out before

I started the scene in 3DS max thanks to xoliul shader (and to you nysuatro as i happen to just know you were part of its development )

I want to get everything of the composition made in 3ds before going to udk, to be able to cut geometry, reuse texture more freely and such; And then have the final lighting, shaders and post process in UDK

    [Blocked Image: http://kokosovar.free.fr/tekkon3ds.jpg]

So far nothing much new , i have some screenshots of some assets

Awesome !! The assets look great ! I often have that crit, but maybe it's just my tastes, all the assets are very monochromatic and don't seem to share a common color hue; the grass is green, the earth is brown, the tombs are grey etc etc ... It's cool because maybe it's the cartoonish style you want to give to the scene, but i find the lighting doesn't give justice to your great assets

Yeah well it's much much better good work !! You should think of removing some parts of the rock on the point of impact. It's weird there, it doesn't feel like a "HARD" and friable material like rock would be but more like a bloc of clay with a hard surface, or wax being hit

lololol orb the master of the 3d rocks INTERNATIONAL

Appart from the lack of polys you need to get it clean enough, i think it's the global pattern of your cracks that is too blobby !

Try to have less cracks, but more dynamic lines

Your cracks also always have the same thickness, make it change like if you were using a beveled brush : http://agathe1705.free.fr/Forum/gazette ... agathe.jpg

Try also to figure out how a rock material would break when it has been hit, it breaks into small parts around the impact and then goes to long single cracks

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/gouldina/3763399888/

    http://orbart.free.fr/Gallery/Images/porte.jpg

Instead of using only the TrimDynamic brush, use the Planar, Planar cutout, TrimFront brushes, to have something more sharp; make your base from these brushes and ONLY then use the Trimdynamic brush to soften it all

Also try to use alphas for the bumpiness of the rock and other little details

    Yo guys !

I don't know if you remember i wanted to do some UDK scene : http://kokosovar.free.fr/test_tekkon.jpg

So back from the start, i made a ROUGH concept of the composition ! It's pretty boring atm, especially the shapes i really need to define and the unfinished horizon; But i'd really like to know if you guys have any ideas to improve it ! Or even if should go back onto something else .. it's giving me a really hard time
