I find 3Dcoat to be quite useful for painting over a model, the brushes are quite basic, but it's nice to get a global base for your colors. You can also export your layers to photoshop and reciprocally which is quite nice if you want to use textures or contrast/hues in photoshop.

If that's what you are looking for, there's no much game studios doing big "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA normal map and shit" games over there at paris. Except Quantic, Don't Nod, Amplitude, Spiders, Cyanide, Eugen Systems, Wizard box and i forget the others

because maybe at some point they'll truly have a breakthrough and make games speak to people through love rather than war. .

I do agree that this is a path to explore tough ! I think japan already does it with all their dating games ? This is indeed something that doesn't exist very much in the western culture, i wonder why, but that would be fun to see it westernised. See how this is working so well in recent bioware's games

( you forgot the games where the bad guys kill the hero's lovely family, and then he goes all Mel Gibson on their asses(ok this is not a very constructive type of love))

Imo, what makes cinematics to be some of the most memorable moments we could have playing videogames is the fact they are actually prepared before by a sequence of gameplay; for example :

Man this is a damn dragon/badguy/huge army/king of darkness, it is like level 99 !!!!!! This is gonna be hard !! ( then goes 1hour of actual fight against the last boss; you have your eyes injected of blood, shaking hands and happen to be completely dehydrated ) I DID IT!!! THIS IS EPIC !!! You start rolling a cigarette .. Then there's a big explosion with music ( atomic bomb / Castle of darkness explode / etc ) The bad guy / dragon / king of darkness / hitler is actually not dead !!! OH NO !! you fight it to the ending cinematic where you save the world / the princess / get your character vengeance / jesus been resurrected etc .. You have tabacco all over yourself and tears start to flow.. man... this is the best game ever !! so much emotions !!

Something to not forget i think is that games are about adversity. At least, my most memorable moments playing a videogame must have been like this haha

But seriously, in term of stories, not much games actually use allegorical reading ( Those which come to my memory would be: Shadow of the colossus, Dear Esther, Metal gear ) and try to not take you by the hand in their writing. But that's not a bad thing, don't get me wrong.

If for example you like Kubrick movies, and that you spent hours meditating of what the movie wanted to convey. When a conversation about Kubrick actually occur with your friends you enthusiastically goes : blabla symbolism allegory, blabla camera angles, blabla space and colors blablablabla music... . And then one of your friends says : When i watch a movie, it is just to entertain myself, also, Kubrick movies are too slow... nothing happens.. did you watched inception ? (he is actually right, because that's how he enjoy movies)

Well; if you authorize me the blasphemy of speaking of cultural food ( music / painting / books / movies / videogames etc ) In my opinion, if you don't make your own food, there's two types of eaters : The baby eating his baby food, and the dog gnawing at his bone. One like to directly have the food in his mouth, the other likes to gnaw conscientiously the bone until he is able to eat it. Both have the same finality, and both type of food are given by the actual author of the cultural product.

Well all this to say ... .. I think i'm going back to my acids trips

Thing is, ( this is only my personal opinion don't feel i'm a hater a troll or whatever ) as a videogame i find their games boring, and as movie/story i find them naive, cliché and over the top. But really, that's too bad because that would actually be better for me if i could appreciate them !

I really don't want to ruin the fun of anyone (at least trying to ).

I would actually love to know how this is received by game developers out of France :]

If you ask me only on the video, not the movie/game debate that for sure David Cage likes a lot; You know where they are going, this is a bit cliché and pointless. They especially lost me at the part she sing in japanese; Ghost in the shell 2 did it better and with more finesse about the philosophical topic it wanted to exploit. (but it's a short teaser afterall maybe that won't be the same if they actually make a game out of it)

What's terrible about it is that if David Cage wasn't so pedant about presenting his games like the revolution of the videogame industry, i would find this enjoyable.

edit : i really don't want to ruin the fun thrik :x

Very nice choice of subject man ! i like how you did your lighting, fitting pretty much the theme and its contrasts ! Be careful about something however; there's a lot of straight lines that gives away instantly the "it's in 3D feeling". If you do look at the painting, nothing is straight, straight lines are faked when they are actually curves. Maybe you could try to do the same by adding more vertices or rotating two elements very subtly to make them do a curve; especially with the "windows" you copy pasted.

Also try to make the cypresses loose their very cylindrical shape the lighting on their volume gives, you could try to add more shadowed areas on them with vertex color for example. Very nice work dude ! Keep it up !!!! i want to see where this is coming
