Yo indian guys working at indie price, my 1 room flat rent cost me 53000 rupees monthly. I don't know how to ask, but could you please stop being so world market friendly. Or could you be paid the standard salary of the country your employer comes from ?

I know it's hard, but please, do an effort.

    sincerely,

a low middleclass citizen of a western country

Thanks little jesus there is the "independant games field" to make players accept 256*256 textures and pixel art again.

Why? They made good commercially successful games. I don't get it :S

Depends how much bioshock infinite costed to develop, and if what seems like a good commercial success didn't make enough benefits.

Well actually no :'[, it's only a personal preference, i kinda like slow paced gameplays with less "statistics fights" and more "tangible" feedback. As senture said, i agree it gives more time to use the terrain tactically rather than having a map that just serves as an arena.

That's funny, i guess it's two style of playing fps, because i remember a CS source lan i was doing with friends (i sucks at CS but i'm pretty good at Redorchestra); In corridor maps i got totally owned by most when reaction time and timing were important. But on an open map with just a pyramid in the middle some bushes and walls around, i totally destroyed them all by using covers, flanks, ambush and tactics. (the camper??)

Just never been satisfied by seeing healthbars slowly going down for fps and rts, it's like, my brain can't process the information. You take a bullet in the face, you are supposed to die. That's why i don't like warcraft3, starcraft, dota and the like. I only lack imagination, please, don't hit me.

Imagine around the same idea, "The thing: multiplayer", with a slow paced gameplay and "realistic" weapon damages, lots of randomized items to pick up, players that become the thing when they get killed but have to fake it, lots of vents and places to hide, that would be amazing. I can't see that arcadey, fast paced with big healthbars for example. (please if you have the license hire me)

There is this napoleonic wargame with a mode you play as a general on the battlefield which has to stay alive and send orders to your units with couriers on horseback, and those said couriers can be intercepted by the ennemy disrupting your orders, the goal is trying to be realistic, but i find it somehow creates new refreshing gameplay for a rts.

You can create new experiences by basically just trying to be realistic (you never achieve it since it's videogames), wolfenstein at its time just tried to be a murder simulator where you play the killer in first person. "How amazing that would be to just be in the eyes of the guy killing nazis, it would feel you are actually doing it!!" amazing experience killing nazis yourself etc

I like jetpacks, but when you have to refill them with fuel yourself, when they can stop to work at times giving you a good adrenaline boost, have 36 buttons and need a manual to operate. You get the idea

But yeah it's absolutely not the same kind of game, so no offence or anything. I'm a guy who plays wargames, and i can tell you my family were absolutely devastated when i announced it.

edit: oops derailed the thread, but yeah it's not like i would want to be chased by dinosaurs in real life. I'd rather like to drink beers, see good friends, do futile stuff like writing these posts on mapcore. (Brillant idea, mapcore posting simulator) And i can't kill deers or people in real life either.. well i could, but it's not socially ok

It's too bad it's so arcadey . also jetpacks

When will we see a proper slowpaced and more realistic jurassic park multiplayer fps based on hide&seek with dinosaurs, humans and amazing leveldesign.* jizz*

It's pretty much the fight between the dumb goliath and the virtuous david your doing guys. It's not arrogant at all to say that, but as big nerds we are already far advanced into playing videogames to have developed a (snobbish) complicated taste and not able to enjoy simple concepts anymore, we know the codes of what is a good game and what is not a good one (for us).

Flappy bird is the kind of things for people who like games but don't played many and who are far less exigent than we are and are of course far more numerous. And as such they are not driven by "game quality" or "pure good virtuous game art" (between quotation marks as this is completely arbitrary things) and not interested a single bit into the media other than getting quickly distracted. There's nothing to be angry about.

You could very easily make the same analogy with "noble" and "working-class" movies. Or the same with literature (gamesofthrones/flaubert), music (daft punk/jean sébastien bach), painting(speed painters/manet) .. (where i'm not emitting a judgement of value, just presenting the oppositions)

Which means that videogames are doomed to become more and more an independent field with their codes for nobility and vulgar, classical, avant garde etc (that will be funny to see in 30 years).

I'm pretty sure there's people absolutely pissed off in the movie scene to have to work on robocop 3 when they could be doing "pure art" abstract conceptual short movies or the like.

Because in fine, I would not be pissed off because these games exist, i would be pissed off because they make money, and because of that if i want to find a job, i would have to work on them (and it's not what i like). So i kinda agree with the hate for that reason .

But still if you enjoy doing "good videogames" as you like them to be. You have to go into a niche market out of the worldwide domination point of view.

There are copies like this everywhere, i saw the same kind of game with voice sound in flash years before, i don't even understand what is all the fuss about it.

Apparently it's not so much of a big deal to make copies, everyone does, even what you could call "tributes to".(weirdly remakes or sequels aren't seen as copies???) But a copy not subtle enough to hide itself has success and starts to become a cashcow, the creator better have a way to back its legitimacy; or else(...)

Makes you think where the videogame industry place the symbolic meaning of success. Apparently the first condition starts with making money, then it's not so much about being original or creative, it's about being legitimate. Nobody cares if the game is a blatant copy, lacks originality if there is no public (or even if it's really original in that matter); but if there is one, and money on top of that, the greedy bastard have to be legitimate.

That's pretty much free bashing of "distinguished" videogame consumers if you ask me, a certain press filling its websites and frustrated game developers who wished to be able to make as much money with mspaint graphics.

The guy just had the luck to be the generic tap the screen game at the good moment (which i find to be an absurdly strange phenomena too i admit, maybe he was helped by companies for their advertisement ?)

If you want to have the biggest public possible, you can't be "original" or "pure". You can fake it though, because your consumers like to be seen as original and distinguished by their tastes (makes you wonder why there are so many hipsters when originality is their credo).

But in fine, it has to be something everyone is familiar with to be a plebiscite, which is something historically built up by games everyone played ( for example : mario pipes may have something to do with the game success ). Otherwise it's impossible to please as much tastes as possible.
