  • Recruiting process vs salary

    • KoKo5oVaR
    • April 7, 2014 at 4:43 PM

Well people from different teams can discuss their salaries, but in the same team it's hard because there is an inherent competition between people.

I guess it depends pretty much of how you feel about your coworkers, if they are friends there's a very possible chance the friendship will endure over the petty competition, otherwise if they are just colleagues who will forget about you the day you leave, don't; because since they don't care, you cannot be sure to not make mortal enemies. And that's when you can see people arguing over some vague criteria of justice like who does the best normal map, who has the most experience, who is the best friend of his lead, who has the best reputation, who is doing the most legitimate work, who is working on weekends etc. When at work in a very arbitrary fashion some people will always do the good stuff and will have the chance to work the legitimate skills and prove themselves to the team on the most important assets, and some others will be stuck on tweaking collisions and placing crates.

And in the end, what is worth the most ? make an amazing wall asset in 3 weeks, or spending two months on tweaking collisions and fighting coders for tools which would have made a shitty game if you didn't had.

    It's tricky

For the company you are priced in terms of how rare it is to find what you do and are willing to do, giving they need it. And how hard it is to replace you.

Because once you spend time and money for the art test and going to the interview in another country, the employers know they can negociate and have you accept things more willingly.

Well that is the grumpy person answer.

Although i know that i had several employers offering me a test and an interview the day after i applied, and when i asked what kind of contract it is, if it is in a limited timeline, for how long it is ( it's cool to know when you have to plan things with family ) i had no further response. Maybe they just felt lazy to write a mail and thus employed someone else.

But it is the grumpy person answer

    Also passion you greedy bastard

The only way to get your opinion heard by GDs without them being defensive and fearing of loosing their jobs, is to suggest things to them indirectly and make them think it's their own idea and then praise their awesomeness for having it. Otherwise it's pretty much impossible.

Well i never made the calcul before, but if you rent your property for 500€ monthly and say you bought the house 200000. With taxes, it takes ~ 40 years to have a new house. You will be 70

Although : If you are courageous and have a mason uncle or something who knows the in and out of making a house, you can buy a shithole, work on it yourself for cheap and then sell it afterwards with a benefice. I know a lot of (older)guys who know stuff in construction do this kind of things.

Dude i don't know how you managed to stay in wales and do maps for a living, but you did for a very long time. If that continues, i would totally buy a house, especially if you have family and friends around who can get a look up over it in case you have to move anywhere. Plus you can rent it and pay a rent elsewhere if you need to

The debt may be huge, not so huge, difficult to refund or not; it won't be the end of the world that's for sure, but it may be for someone. Because someone will have to pay for it, and what matters, is that it is not you

    HOLYSHIT

http://www.dw.de/ <---- this thing exists ... and its in english which really tells you all there is to know this is not FOR germans O_O

haha and it's changing the theme of the news for each language. That's absolutely amazing. I didn't know a thing about france 24 which is apparentely airing a LOT in africa, it's really nasty. I'm not perfectly informed about actualities, but still, i go on the web, read stuff in english; well, very modestly i think there is much more people less informed than me in france. I didn't know these things could possibly exist . The british counterpart seems to be BBC World Service

The deutsche welle is apparently the same thing france 24 is, and you too don't know about it, that's amazing

I didn't knew you could have a tv channel broadcasting what your country "thinks" on the international scene (like maybe it's not the opinion of the majority of the citizens in the country), it's paid with your taxes, and you didn't know about it. I'm blown away
