I used to pirate some software for school stuff (mathcad, photoshop, pro/e, office suite), until I found out I could get it all for free through my school

I'm still running a pirated XP, just because I can't be bothered to go through the hassle of reinstalling it with a legit version.

Haven't pirated music in a decade, I get pretty much everything through iTunes, and the only game I ever pirated was Starcraft, and that was only after I lost TWO purchased discs. Downloaded, mounted, never will lose it again

I've pirated a handful of movies/shows, some because it'd be stupid expensive to buy them(band of brothers series, lotr trilogy...) and some because I'm too lazy to go to the store and rent it. I never burn them to discs or anything and keep them, just watch them and delete them. Unless they're fantastic movies, I don't ever have a hard copy. And if it is a fantastic movie and I want a hard copy, I buy it.

I think what makes the solar tower look so bad is the lack of shadowing or any effort to make the mirror panels actually look attached to the ground. Looks like someone just did a few polar arrays and quit. Considering this is post-apoc, I'd like to see some broken ones, some which aren't perfectly aligned(malfunctioning positioning motor) etc. I think it's a cool idea, but it could be pulled off better. The tower itself is pretty cool looking. Just those arrays need some work. I'm not sure why they would release screens that are pretty unfinished, but I'm hoping they are

Other than the addition of some western-looking plants and geckos, yeh looks just like FO3. I want to see the city!

I knew what it was, but I'm a nerdy engineer, so I get off on those sort of things.

My guess is they settle for something less out of court.. unless they stick to their guns about getting their rights to the MW brand back. Doubt activision cough that one up without brute force.

By my calculation, since it has "1000 touch sensors" on the screen, each sensor has to be roughly .2" x .2" if they're square. So if you wanted to write and have recognition, you'd have to write big. Really big. Standard college rule lines are .28". That resolution might work for basic gesture commands, but as far as writing.. no.

So they did it. Made a huge (and kinda ugly. Looks disproportionate as hell) iPod touch. Revolutionary.

I'm thoroughly unimpressed.

The last few times I've played HL I haven't made it all the way thru; I've only played it through once. I usually play the first couple levels of Xen before saying "f this" and moving on . The gameplay suffers in Xen, and is such a shock of different gameplay style that it kinda takes me out of the game. Although I think the "boss battles" with the big crab thing and Nihilanth are awesome. The crab thing in particular is one of my favorites.

OpFor in general is a much more cohesive, concise experience. It answers a lot of questions and brings up its own, its a very interesting premise. It gives personality and humanity to the legions of marines Gordon slayed in HL, showing the whole situation in an entirely different perspective, but you get that same feeling of survival, of being such a small piece of something enormous going down around you, that made the original so amazingly immersive.

I think it would be interesting to do a similar style of add-on in the perspective of a Vortigaunt in the time between Black Mesa/HL1 and HL2.

Are you guys seriously saying this looks bad? Sure it isn't next-gen mindblowing graphics, but it still looks extremely good. It's a mod, and an epic huge mod at that. It is amateur developers doing this for free in their spare time. Of course it is going to take a long time and every aspect isn't going to be perfection.

Geez, mapcore is the last place I'd expect people to jump on a dedicated group of modders because they're using a SLIGHTLY dated engine. For shame.

BMS is like a tribute to mapcore. Modders paying tribute to HL1, the basis of mapcore's birth.
