Good thread
Hopefully we will slow down a bit on the graphics side soon, and focus on other areas such as AI, immersion etc.Well, i think that unless something revolutionary happens (like mind-projected 3d or something), there's gonna be a point where graphics will be good enough. With every generation of games, the graphics get better and better which costs more and more exponentially. There's a bunch of stuff that can happen in my opinion. It simply gets too expensive to create a "new generation" of graphics. We don't need a million polygon characters. There's a border to the one next step thing. Or maybe gamers will refuse to pay twice as much for a game (because it took twice as long to make, since it's prettier) because in the end, it's the gameplay that matters. I think that we're almost at a point where graphics aren't gonna change dramatically anymore if you continue to work the same, we need some kind of revolution. And unless that happens, the point where graphics are "good enough" will be reached.

That's exactly why i love computer games. They're far more interesting than anything else right now because the development goes so fast. In 50 years (hope we'll still all be around by then) amazing things will be possible. Plugging into virtual realities might even be possible, at least i hope so. I guess, whenever they're gonna build the Matrix, they'll sure as hell need some level designers

I agree with evert, lighting looks different, much harder than in other maps. Last 2 pics are not good though, colors don't seem to match each other and the rest of the map

Here's some of my painting / collage work by the way, i have loads more but i'm gonna save that for the release of my new webby

1) Portrait of a woman, made after a photo (taken from a film try-out by Andy Warhol) that was taken with very strong, very odd lighting.
2) Assignment for art history, had to make something inspired by a story from the bible. I chose the apocalyps for it's drama, hypocracy and my frustration about the story.
3) This is my girlfriend in bed, asleep. The most cosy, safe and fragile situation imaginable. I painted her dead, because of the contrast, and a car accident she was in by then - i almost watched her die which was extremely shocking. (She had nothing in the end because a car just stopped, his tyre just didn't hit her head that was on the asphalt already)
4) Abstract work, made after the Dutch justice department fucked me up the ass again (sorry for the words). I just started putting crap on the paper, candle wax, crayons, paint. That, and then i went loose on some tree in our garden

rd you're terrible ;D

Unreal3 engine > all. It was looking just too pretty to be true but i really don't want to try to map for that beast. Or at least not now hehe. This realityengine, well, can't really judge it well since the artwork that's been made for it is (besides Metronome) pretty poor. It seems to be all technically well done but just looks uninteresting. On Metronome it all looks cool though, but not really better than Source imo.

Stalker is awesome. Although i find aiming a bit, how you say, it felt really uneasy. Like in CS or HL2, i know exactly how to point my gun at someone and just shoot and in Stalker it just felt weird. Like i wasn't able to shoot very well. Still got quite some kills in the E3 stalker tournament though, was fun

RD, stop twisting words. Or read better. Of course it was worth fighting for and i would've fought for liberating it. But risking a life is just such a different choice than the choice between life and death.

Often, using less lines for the basic shape gives a much better result

omg that's awesome

Yes, yes, hot girls and stuff

winmine/ mshearts (terribly addictive)
hl2 (never finished it on hardest level)

Sure is
. I do think that it's too bad there's no shading on the cap itself, and that the upper outline of the cap is too strong -

Rolleyes me, but that's how i feel. I just really dislike how you people wave away arguments with stuff like this. At least write something that makes sense, or just don't start a discussion.
Quote from Pericolos0if something is not entertaining in a way, i really would not care about it. and thats how i feel about alot of elitist art today
At mapcore, we make games. And entertainment far outweighs the art here, depending on how you define art.nice pics step!

Like i said, art can be very rewarding, which is entertaining as well. And the elitist art is kinda crappy i agree. Elitists artists are a bit snobby which is just not good. I don't really think art is superior to entertainment but there sure is a difference and i'd rather see art than entertainment like i said before.
And you're right, i might be like someone that is shouting in the desert but meh i'll try anyway
-
That is just so naive and laughable i'm not even going to discuss about that. Art is real. I don't think entertainers are inferior to artists but i am sure there's a huge difference between the two. If you really think art is just some paint splattered on canvas, and that 3 year olds can do that, wow. I can only applaud for the stupidity.
Besides that, i'd rather survive Auschwitz than die at the front.
Klein: It's not so much about these pictures, but more about the next pictures he might take. I see some great potential in these photos and i'm trying to encourage him to do something with it. I'd rather have art than entertainment because i think art can be entertaining as well. It's just so much more fulfilling than "just" entertainment. But that's just my opinion, which can be safely ignored.

You're on the very right track, i really like this. But i strongly agree with gins. Make the shoulder more impressive, make the dragon a bit stronger.

Hehe yeah that drawing is from a while ago. I agree although the rush feel as you call it has it's charms. It gives it all a more lively look i think. I think that if you're aware of every line you draw when hatching, drawings get that constructed and un-spontaneous look which i don't like. Shouldn't be like this though, i agree.
