It looks very clean, too clean in many places. The brushwork is simple, but it works out pretty well in most places.

As ReNo said, the map really need more detail in a lot of places. You got the walls, floors and such, but not really any object detail. There should be plenty of room for making the map more detail and yet have good r_speeds.

Seems like a good deal for Valve; now they both got Steam and the worlds biggest publisher. If however this includes EA logo videos playing everytime you start a Valve game, then it suck big time.

you now this is how CS became lame LOL Valve starts to help them in beta 5/6 and then buys them out by version 1.0 and then ruins it. Its all coming to an end.

Was it not just Barking Dog who helped them with those betas?

I tried starting a mod. Had all all the staff I'd ever need, but we just couldn't find a coder willing to invest the time or effort, whichw as a crying shame. It seems your mod is basically screwed unless the leader is the coder.

You are right, a mod is screwed if you can't find a coder. It is however possible to survive. After the first public release of Sands of War(http://www.sandsofwar.net) we also ran into the problem that our old coder left. We searched and searched but were unable to find another coder.

We could have stopped there, just as so many other mods have done before us, that however did just not fit in the SoW spirit. So we continued on and tried to add lots of great things in all the other divisions. SoW beta 1.1 and 1.2 were made completely without a coder.

We did not have a coder for those versions, but that did not hold us back from improving SoW a lot. We got better models, maps, sounds and everything else. People noticed that and in the end a good coder found us:)

We were so lucky that our first coder had completed the code base for the mod, so that we could just improve the content. If however a mod have not even been release, then I understand that it might be tougher to do what we did.

I was thinking to add some island in the 3d sky, does anyone know how a 3d sky effects a budget, i'm pretty high already because the engine sees almost the whole map from any point, only the indoor is seperated with areaportals.

A 3d sky in itself does not really require anything, it is what you put in it which matters. An island would be cool, a single disp map*4 should not really affect anything.

Urban clearly went over the line there. Good to see that most people agree with that.

Kosmo, stop picking on Urban. Even though you are right, you should not keep on discussing a single ban.

Urban, you did something wrong, which is just human, get over it.

So uhm yeah, now flame me both of you and then everything is fine again-

I like these screens! It's cool to see that they already got a bunch of content. There is a few hl2 materials and props in there, but far from anything which can annoy me. I think it's 100% ok to do such things, as long as they fit in.

I have also only tried WoW, but I am still pretty sure that WoW is the game to get. This game is just incredible addictive and I am still trying to figure out why.

In the long run you do, as Mazy say, get tired of the bugged and repetetive gameplay. Until you reach that you point you will have had a great experience though.

Aha. What I like about NS was not the aliens vs. marines, but rather all the other stuff. Anyways, good to hear that you got some new stuff:)

Btw. for SoW2 we are actually doing it the other way around. There is no aliens vs. marines, but the the gameplay is pretty similar.

Alien Swarm is more about Co-op and squad stuff. But yeah, the marines vs. bugs is there. They are coming to Source too btw. - even also with a commercial product.
