  • Where are all the Level Designers?

    • Steppenwolf
    • July 13, 2008 at 11:24 AM

I was thinking and i just asked myself this question: Where are all the level designers of the video game industry?

We have mapcore and its cool and all but we only have maybe a couple of dozen LD's here. With all the companys out there there must be thousands of professionals alone tho. I don't get it where they come from, where they hang out on the internet etc.

    Have i missed something?

They should get an military advisor and watch less hollywood movies. Nobody in this trailer behaved like a real soldier would do.

And i don't know why the hell they release a prerendered trailer. Thats totally not creating hype for me.

Not so much fucked up, more like never happy with their product I think it was?

I would count that under fucked up. Something must have been wrong with the vision for the final product then if that was the case.

I doubt that development without managers and/or Producers would work for the most companies. Seriously do you think artists in a 100+ people company should be bothered with stuff like dealing with publishers, management, PR etc.?

And lets be honest here: valve pretty much fucked up somewhere during the development of HL 2. No game on earth needs 6 years development time if the ressources and goals are managed properly. They must have lost shitloads of money.

I think you should apply at Infinity Ward. The company would be the perfect fit for your skillset and interests.

Bought a new compact cam two weeks ago (Canon Powershot A570 IS). It's a lot of fun to just walk around in the city with it (preferably during my lunch break) and take photos:

Interesting concept for a comedy. But Will Smith is totally the wrong cast for that. He's just not funny no matter how hard he tries.

It's ridiculous to say a team like germany doesn't deserve to be in a final. They may not have been one of the two "best" teams in this tournament but they have what it takes to get in a final contrary to many other teams who are only good to play for the gallery. Also has nothing to do with luck because germany has a nearly unrivaled history of reaching finals. You cant be up there by accident so constantly over history, especialy as a team that is not known for playing the best looking football. For germany its hard work everytime and the playyers are willing to do it. When you see other nations play you often get the impression the players came to the tournament just for having a good time or to take part in a soap opera.

The performance of the german team was weak yesterday. But at least they played effective (what else can you expect at minimum from germany?).

But if you think Turkey would deserve it more to be in the final then you already forget how weak they played for the whole tournament before yesterdays game. They had great team spirit and got the luck a few times to score the necessary goals. Respect for that. But their lucky streak had to end one day.

Personaly i couldn't enjoy yesterdays game. First half was shit and then the technical problems. It left me with more anger then happiness the moment the match was over. I felt like robbed from a historic moment.

In the final germany has to play a lot better if they want to win. But i'm confident. For some reason germany usualy plays better against good teams. When playing again decent teams but underdogs you always get the impression the german players are afraid to loose their face and it makes their legs weak(see croatia, austria, turkey game).

Yeah I know, asking myself the same question, I just have a very hard time imagining photography technology was that elaborate back then. The first color photos were taken during the late 19th century, but the colors would have faded away and the precision of the optics was decades away from that kinda quality here.At the same time I can't see these pictures having been recolored from black and white ones, and if that's the case that's one hell of a good job.

I think they are just photoshopped. Guy probably took a lot of pictures with the same plane on different positions and then mixed them.

But i have to disagree with the optics. Before photo film was used (in smaller more compact cameras) and photos were taken on plates they could contain an incredible amount of details. When i worked in the archives of my home town i saw a shitload of large photos (in size from A4 to A3) from around 1890-1918 that just blew me away. It was really like a view back in time that felt more real then anything that i have seen before. Even the smallest details were crisp and clear. Off course these were in b&w tho.

[edit] LOL.. did anyone else think that the music at the end of the behind the scenes video sounds like the Terminator?

And the first part of the music is actualy "O Fortuna" from Carmina Burana by Carl Orff. I would bet my bollocks that they haven't licensed the music.

What's wrong with Alien:Ressurection? I'm a Jeunet fan myself and i'm loving it. I can see why Alien fans (especialy american ones) can have a slight problem with it but not Jeunet fans. It is a very typical movie from him. Great black comedy and visualy gorgeous.
